DRIVERS IN LIFE It is remarkable that Vietnamese youth consider family, friends and purpose as 3 significant motives in their life and give less attention to power, social status and curiosity. They definitely want to explore the world and seek for challenging global opportunities right after graduation. They are curious about the world and desire to help people out there. They want to contribute to society via strength-based actions, which teaching English to the underprivileged is one example.

WORLD IN 2030 In September this year, the United Nations adopted the new global agenda for sustainable development in New York. The UN member states, governments, business, experts and leaders committed to address 17 global goals in the next 15 years for a better world. Young people will play a key role on the way to make it happen. But what do they envision in 15 years from now?

WORLD IN 2030 83% of total respondents believe that the world would be a better place in 2030. Vietnamese Youth’s dreams of their future workplaces indicate their sensitiveness to the world trends: MNC and business startups. Government is considered to have the strongest ability to influence society, however, the power and significance of youth-led organizations to drive change cannot be underestimated at the same time . Youth wants to take an active stand and believe in their ability to influence the issues around. Alliance with the Private sector can boost the impact that Youth can bring to this world.

How do you know about the Global Goals?
Vietnam
YOUTH FOR GLOBAL GOALS Only 39% of the respondents know about the Global Goals. Most of them mentioned AIESEC as the key source of information from where they can learn and start acting upon the Global Goals Unsurprisingly, Education, Health and Climate actions are the three goals that Vietnamese youth choose to act upon. Also, Education and Climate Protection are also the top issues that Vietnamese youth would like to solve as an international volunteer if they are given the right opportunity and a solid financial support.

ENGAGEMENT It is a universally known fact that for long-term change to be driven, the youth of today should play a key role in driving that change. But, how do we really sensitize the youth towards issues that matter? How do we get crucial information to reach them effectively so that they listen, and then, act? We attempted to understand what channels of engagement the youth rely on!

The most trusted sources Vietnamese Youth use while looking up for information 63% Academic Institutions 42% Parents/Relatives 36% Professors
33% Friends
Vietnam
ENGAGEMENT Nearly 89% of the respondents use Facebook to keep themselves informed, while the second-most used channels are google and e-newspapers/e-magazines - but these channels are just half as popular as Facebook. This implies that the daily dose of crucial information for most of the respondents comes from what is being shared by their 'friends' on Facebook. Important messages become more important through sharing from friends or channels/groups that they follow. It has become a requirement for messages to be packaged in a way that more people share it in order to make it reach out to more people. Interestingly, when it comes to trusted sources while looking up information, 63% respondents selected academic institutions. 42 % mentioned parents/ relatives and 36% mentioned professors and thought leaders. Thus implying that most people are fairly convinced that academic institutions maintain trustable and credible information, as well as the people they look up to (such as parents/ professors/friends).

EDUCATION Millennials show their large dissatisfaction on education system due to their uncertainty about what they could derive from universities/colleges’ curriculum (Net Promoter Score: -43). In fact, millennials require more practical benefits beside theoretical knowledge. Based on the output of the survey, we can clearly see that Vietnamese youth want a hands-on experience as a key to contribute to their personal and professional development. This experience lies in the area of exchange and volunteering instead of conferences or workshops which are found to be less engaging nowadays

A FUTURE FOR VIETNAM Vietnamese youth are always believed to be the leaders of tomorrow, but first of all, they should be the leaders of today who now start concerning about the future of Vietnam and desire to contribute to the country’s development in the next 15 years.

Most Vietnamese Youth show their high willingness to contribute to Vietnam’s growth, while studying and volunteering are the 2 main activities that Vietnamese Youth will tackle upon to realize their dreams. The 3 biggest obstacles preventing young Vietnamese from contributing to Vietnam’s development are: low financial resources, majority's culture & mindset and inadequate education system.
