Transavia “Shopping Mall Check-in”

To celebrate the opening of its new base at Eindhoven Airport, located in the southern part of the Netherlands, Air France-KLM’s lowcost subsidiary Transavia handed out free tickets in the city at the end of February 2013.

The airline awarded two free tickets to the first hundred visitors who registered at 10 am with a passport and a suitcase at a temporary check-in desk the carrier set up in a shopping center in the city.

Those who managed to obtain a free ticket could choose from one of Transavia’s six new destinations out of Eindhoven: Berlin, Nice, Naples, Madrid, Bologna or Copenhagen. Winners could determine their departure date within three weeks, but the tickets had to be booked instantly and therefore, a passport was required.

Public interest in the free Transavia ticket was huge and the campaign resulted in long lines at the shopping mall with hundreds of people bringing an empty suitcase in order to take advantage of the offer.

For those who didn't get the chance to obtain a free ticket, Transavia also offered tickets to its new destinations at a discount for limited time.
