THE ONE DRINK YOU NEED TO KNOW AND TRY, WHEN VISITING GEORGIA
Chacha is a Georgian pomace brandy, a clear and strong (ranging between 40% alcohol for commercially produce to 65% for home brew), which is sometimes called “wine vodka”, “grape vodka”, or “Georgian vodka/grappa”. It is made of grape pomace (grape residue left after making wine). The term chacha is used in Georgia to refer to grape distillate. It may be also produced from unripe or wild grapes.
Georgian chacha
Nestled in the heart of the Caucasus region of Eurasia between the Black Sea and the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, Georgia has a climate that is perfect for grape cultivation. One of the world’s oldest wine producing regions, grapes are thought to have first appeared in the country as far back nearly 8,000 years. Grape cultivation and wine making are therefore a significant part of Georgia’s history and culture, and continue to play a vital role in the country’s economy. It is not only a rich diversity in wine, however, that Georgia’s vineyards are famous for. Grape cultivation and wine production have also resulted in the development of “chacha” Georgia’s traditional national drink.
Chacha is made from grape skins, or pomace, leftover
from wine production. The skins are a byproduct that most modern wineries toss out, but Georgia cherishes grape skins.
The drink is everywhere in Georgia, from commercial versions in stores, to homemade chachas on dinner tables.
Where to drink chacha in Batumi: Georgia has excellent wine shops, and there are many fancy restaurants to taste artisan chacha if you’re looking for something higher end. one of the best place to drinking best quality of chacha and learning how drinking, it’s “Chacha Time” (5 Giorgi Mazniashvili St, Batumi), one of the old and popular bar in old town of Batumi.

COLONNADES
The idea to construct Colonnades in Batumi belongs to the local doctor Ivane Mchedlidze. He brought the project with him in 1933-1934 from a professional trip to Sorrento city, Italy. The project was completed under the supervision of Bogdan Kirakosyan, an architect from Batumi. This structure used to serve as a gate to the seashore which used to be closer to it than today. Years later, the shoreline receded and the sea moved back further from the construction. Despite this, colonnades remain one of Batumi’s most frequented landmarks and a popular meeting place in the city. You will meet similar colonnades at the entrance of Batumi Central Park.

HISTORIC FIGURES WHO HAVE VISITED BATUMI 4
John Steinbeck
In the summer of 1947, John Steinbeck, an American writer along with the legendary war photographer Robert Capa began their journey to the Soviet Union. In his “Russian Diary” Steinbeck describes Georgia with particular admiration and pays great attention to Batumi with its beautiful landscapes, tropical climate and natural diversity. Many health resorts were located in Batumi at that time and citizens of the Soviet republics had to work really hard to get a chance of spending their holidays there. “We have come to believe that the majority of Russians hope to go to Georgia, and not to heaven when they die, since Georgia has a wonderful climate, rich soil and a small private ocean”- he wrote.
Mikhail Bulgakov
The famous Russian writer visited Batumi twice, first in 1921, when he came to Caucasus in search of more favorable conditions for his creative life. Bulgakov had even planned migration from Batumi to Turkey, but returned to his homeland in the end. The second visit took place in 1928 when Bulgakov arrived in Batumi with his wife, visited Green Cape, and decided to write his “Master and Margarita” novel. He is the author of a play called “Batumi”, which was written for the 60th anniversary of Stalin.

Nobel brothers have made a noticeable contribution to the construction of the Baku-Batumi pipeline, railway and Batumi Oil Terminal and were the first to transport oil from Batumi to Europe. In 2007, the house that once belonged to the Nobel brothers was transformed into a Technological Museum of Nobel Brothers, where in addition to the Nobels’ achievements, one can also get acquainted with the accomplishments of the Rothschilds and Mantashev, tea and tobacco extension process in Adjara and development of printing industry in Batumi.

TOP 6 REASONS TO VISIT AJARA
THERE ARE MANY REASONS TO VISIT ADJARA BUT HERE ARE OUR TOP 6:
1. GEORGIAN HOSPITALITY AND GOODWILL
Exceptional hospitality and the goodwill of the Georgian people make every trip to Georgia very special. According to an ancient Georgian proverb, God sends visitors to Georgia. As such, Georgian culture has developed a strong culture of hospitality. As a guest in Georgia, you will not only experience unparalleled hospitality, but you will also be astounded by the genuine kindness of the Georgian people.
2. THE CULTURE OF GEORGIAN SUPRA AND TRADITION OF TAMADA
3. HISTORICAL AND MODERN ARCHITECTURE
Batumi is one of the oldest cities in Georgia founded as before the Common Era. The initial settlement “Batus” is mentioned in sources from the 4th century BCE. The city’s unique history has contributed to the city’s vast architectural diversity. In the 19th century, during the “Porto Franco” period, European architects completed a number of interesting architectural projects. Later during the soviet and post-soviet times, Batumi was developed into a popular seaport and tourist destination. To this day, Batumi is still distinguished by a variety of buildings of different architectural styles.
The Georgian Supra (a traditional feast) has no equivalent around the world. The culture of toasting does exist in many cultures; however, the Georgian “Tamada” or toastmaster has no parallel. The role of the Tamada is to lead the Supra. The Tamada is considered to be the most honorable member of a traditional Georgian Supra. The ideal Tamada is well educated, has extensive knowledge of Georgia’s history and culture, is eloquent, is sociable, has a good sense of humor and has musical ability. The Tamada should be able to lead a series of toasts on a variety of topics. He should also be able to entertain guests with poems, songs and interesting stories. The Georgian Supra is a fundamental element of Georgian identity, which is why the tradition has been preserved to this very day. In total, there are approximately 300 different toasts, some of which are obligatory for each Supra, regardless of its duration.
All parts of Georgia are interesting, but Ajara is place with the sea, the mountains, interesting traditions and a lot of other reasons why you should visit this region.
TOP 6 REASONS TO VISIT AJARA
THERE ARE MANY REASONS TO VISIT ADJARA BUT HERE ARE OUR TOP 6:
A traditional Georgian feast is a superb display of the diversity of Georgian cuisine, cooking techniques, tablesetting traditions and other accompanying rituals. Ajarian cuisine is an inseparable aspect of Georgian cuisine. In mountainous Ajara, dairy products are common ingredients in many dishes. Boat-shaped Ajarian khachapuri is one of the most famous Ajarian dishes. Sweets also play an important role in Ajarian cuisine. Viticulture is an essential component of Georgian and Ajarian culture that has been cultivated for hundreds of years. In total, there are around 50 different grape species in Ajara that are still used in wine production to this very day.
Georgia is one of the oldest Christian countries in the world, which has had a significant influence on Georgian culture. Gonio, one of the oldest settlements in Georgia, is located in Ajara. It was inhabited in the 8th-7th century BCE. The Gonio Fortress, which was built by the Romans, has mythic ties to the legend of Jason and the Argonauts. Ajara is famous for its stone-arch bridges and different religious monuments. The monasteries, Gelati and Bagrati recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites are located just a few hours’ drive from Batumi. Tbilisi, Mtskheta and other parts of Georgia are also very rich in unique and diverse cultural monuments. Moreover, non-material culture, such as Georgian polyphony and dances, are important parts of Georgian culture. Ajarian songs and dances occupy a special place in Georgian folklore.
Adjara is part of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis, the place where every monument hides history behind it. If you like to read the history in monuments or artefacts, then Adjara should find its spot on your list of the world’s must-see places.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE
The Miniature Park is located in Shekvetili, in the touristic-recreational zone near Tsitsinatela Amusement Park, about half an hour north of Batumi on the Black Sea coast.
Georgia’s uniqe tourist attraction has officially working where guests are invited to take a step back in time and explore dozens of the country’s most iconic buildings and sites in small scale.
The country’s first Miniature Park opened on 2017 in Shekvetili, western Georgia. Here visitors can see 44 miniature replicas of iconic buildings and architectural monuments from all over Georgia that explore the country’s rich culture and history.
At 1:25 scale, which is European standard for miniature parks, visitors will be able to tower over the displays and get a birds-eye view of sites that normally engulf them.
Among the miniature displays are several iconic churches from different regions, historic stone pillars and towers and a comprehensive display of the country’s medieval city of Sighnagi.
The Miniature Park also showcases a small-scale version of Narikala fortress in capital Tbilisi and many other historic monuments.
AT GEORGIA’S FIRST MINIATURE PARK?
The Miniature Park is located in Shekvetili, in the touristic-recreational zone near Tsitsinatela Amusement Park, about half an hour north of Batumi on the Black Sea coast.
Ten million GEL (about $4.28 million/€3.84 million*) was invested in the new Miniature Park. All of this funding came via a private investment by Georgian tycoon and former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili through the Cartu Charity Foundation.
A unique database that includes accurate drawings of prototypes of the miniatures featured at the park was also gifted to state by the Cartu Charity Foundation. The drawings were rendered in a way that was particularly valuable for the National Agency of Monument Protection.
Other infrastructure inside the Miniature Park includes a Visitors Centre with a mini amphitheater, a cafe and more.
A NEW DISCOVERY OF MEGALITHIC CULTURE BATUMI ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
In 2014-2022, human civilization was enriched with a completely new culture. There is a unique type of megalithic culture related to the metallurgy of nonferrous metals. We have solid data regarding the fact that our entire country and the southern Black Sea coast (Republic of Turkey) fall within the area of the newly discovered culture. Professor Amiran Kakhidze was the organizer of these excavations. You can see all the artifacts discussed in this article at Batumi Archaeological Museum.
As a result of the intensive field archeological researches of recent years, it is once again confirmed that Georgia, first of all, South-West Georgia, especially Ajara, was one of the powerful centers of metallurgy in the Eneolithic, Early, Middle, and Late Bronze Age. The professional metalworkers here are the introducers of many innovations. In the wake of the mining activity, the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals was raised to an almost industrial level. Such a wide scale of metallurgy of poly metals is surprising. All this was not completely accidental. It is recognized in historiography that the main motivation of the Southern impulses toward the Caucasus was the desire for metal. Accordingly, our grandmaster ancestors, direct participants in world historical processes, responded to the increased demand for such raw materials in the international market with amazing innovations and an unprecedented expan-
sion of bronze metallurgy. We are steadily coming to the recognition that the continuous contacts over the millennia are not to be attributed solely to Southern impulses.
Without any overestimation, the special role of the population of our country should be clearly defined. So, there are trade-economic and cultural relations with bilateral content.
As can be seen from the archaeological excavations, almost all the fossils discovered so far, like large channel waterfalls, stone basins, and stone bowls, are scattered with more or less intensity with even more numerous, often single-centimeter-sized miniature stone bowls and thin channels with different directions in the coastal flat rocks. On some sites, the leading place is occupied by this kind of artifacts (Murvaneti, Shtlaveti, etc.).
In the early days, their essence remained unclear, but then we came to the conclusion that the example of gold mining in Svaneti (laying sheep skins in the river) that has survived to this day, it becomes clear that the old pragmatic metallurgists, along with the large industry, used the crystals of gold and other types of non-ferrous metals contained in the alluvial sands washed by mountain streams in small bowls and unsystematically located small channels. That was
their method of collecting. This is another ingenious finding because the deposits of this type of metal are mainly found in the mountainous area. Now there is no longer any doubt that the metal workers should have become the owners of quite abundant “income” in this way as well. It is also added that the object of use should have been the powerful sites created by them (large basins, bowls), in which the processes of flotation and grinding-crushing would be stopped for autumn-winter conditions. According to the latest data, it is already clear that these places were an even more important reservoir depending on the time of year.
Ingenious-innovative metallurgists brought the mining of non-ferrous metals to an industrial level. Taking Legva as an example, we can see that there are numerous not very deep, large-scale stone basins with low flow, where submerged crystals with various types of non-ferrous metals contained in the washed-out rocks could be collected at any time of the year and used for the intended purpose. Even more impressive is the unique monument found in Abastumani,
As a result of the intensive field archeological researches of recent years, it is once again confirmed that Georgia, first of all, South-West Georgia, especially Ajara, was one of the powerful centers of metallurgy in the Eneolithic, Early, Middle, and Late Bronze Age.
Zugdidi, which has not yet been searched for in terms of technical solution and scale - the white limestone river bed is completely used in the form of artificially created frame-basins and narrow dams for a length of almost 500 m. In these places, the river flows slowly, almost imperceptibly.
Our views were further strengthened by the research conducted by the Vienna laboratory when portable laser equipment was used to determine the chemical composition of gold objects found in the treasury of Priam (the so-called Troy of the 3rd millennium), in the death mines of the first dynasty of UR and also on the island of Lemnos. It was determined that the gold came from a river and was mined in Georgia.
In conclusion, we will say that these discoveries have not only scientific, but also touristic value, since it is quite possible to turn them not only into a recreational area and a natural sight, as is the case with several waterfalls located in Turkey, but also to add cultural significance, which will further advance the prestige of our country.
ADVENTURE TOURS IN GEORGIA
Hunting and Fishing
Georgia has an impressive diversity of fauna that makes this country attractive for Big Game as well as Small Game Hunters. Georgia is an important migration point for birds, passing through the border, which according to the season is a great opportunity to hunt more, than thirty different species of birds. When it comes to hunting activities of other animals and birds, there are specially located hunting farms allowing hunting across different parts of Georgia.
Also Georgian lakes and rivers boast with variety of fish species. Major ones are trout, common carp, vendace, chub, crucian carp, silver carp, bighead carp and barbel. The best places for fishing are Paliastomi and Paravani lakes, Tkibuli and Shaori reservoirs, Black Sea coast of Samegrelo region, especially Anaklia. In Alazani and Aragvi rivers you can catch catfish and carp. There are also fish farms near Kutaisi and Kazbegi, and lake resorts Lopota and Kvareli, where you are charged for fishing, but you can also rent the equipment there, and be sure that your catch is guaranteed!
Hiking and Trekking
Getting away from it all is easy in Georgia. Whether you’re following ancient trails along lush river valleys, past ancient stone towers and castles or catching your breath on high altitude mountain paths, it is likely that you will be the only person for miles around. Many paths have been maintained over the centuries by locals dedicated to looking after their cattle and livestock, and with so many trails to choose from, your walk can be as challenging or as easy-going as you like. And what an experience.
Marvel at the magnificent snowy peaks of the Caucasus Mountains, full of hidden valleys and glaciers. Lower down you come across more varieties of animals, birds and flowers than in any other European country. Wherever you walk, you’ll be sure of a warm welcome. Whether you choose to sit and drink some local wine, sample the delicious locally produced food or even stay overnight in the villagers’ homes, you’ll never be treated better.
4x4 Adventure
Because Georgia is a compact and diverse country, there is a very small distance between completely contrasting landscapes: deserts, sea, subtropics, tea plantations, high mountains etc. Almost everything can be seen within a day or so travelling in a 4x4 vehicle. See the breathtaking scenery change with your own eyes, moment by moment, and capture the essence of what it feels like to be in Georgia.
There is also a chance to go offroad totally, without going through beaten paths. Enduro motorbikes and safari cars wait for you to drive you really crazy!
Caving
Georgia, especially its Western part, contains an amazing array of cave systems, from underground rivers and lakes to enormous caverns and limestone scenery. Trek or ride to some of the many canyons that make up the landscape, and feel the thrill of seeing the 300 million year old dinosaur footprint on the rock. They look so fresh that you can almost believe the animals that made them are only just around the next corner.
The Tskaltubo Cave system has not yet been fully explored, but even now it offers to the adventurers the chance to go over a kilometer underground and take a boat across its enchanted lake. Professional cavers will find much for them in the Samegrelo and Imereti Regions.
