Colombians will vote on June 19th between Gustavo Petro, center-left candidate, and Rodolfo Hernández, right-wing populist, in the second round to elect the President of
Los colombianos votarán el 19 de junio entre Gustavo Petro, candidato de centro izquierda, y Rodolfo Hernández, populista de derecha, en la segunda vuelta para elegir el Presidente the Republic for the next four years.
The surprise of the elections on May 29th was the rise of Hernández as the second vote, over Federico Gutiérrez, a right-wing Government candidate, whom polls indicated as Petro’s rival for the second round.
Petro got 40.3 % of the votes; Hernández, 28.1 %; and Gutiérrez, 23.8 %, among six candidates.
Rodolfo Hernández, former Mayor of Bucaramanga who has focused his campaign on the fight against corruption, will go to trial on July 21st for his alleged responsibility in the illegal award of a contract when he served as Mayor.
Gustavo Petro, former mayor and prominent opposition Senator, was a member of the M-19 guerrilla group, which signed the peace agreement in 1990. His proposal is centered on peace, the fight against inequality, and environmental protection. Against him, a broad sector believes he is a danger to the country. z de la República para los próximos cuatro años. Cameron kept things running, ensured workers remained employed, and even implemented a new cargo expansion strategy. THREE MAIN PRIORITIES
Come July 2022, Cameron will be starting the next chapter in her career as the new President & CEO of the Chamber.
“I am over the moon excited about this opportunity,” said Cameron.
As someone who has grown to love Philadelphia over the past decade-plus she’s lived in the city — as a native of Ligionier, Pennsylvania — Cameron sees great potential for growth.
When it comes to Philadelphia and businesses, she believes that businesses play a vital role in its success and prosperity.
During the press conference announcing her as the next president and CEO of the Chamber, she set out her three main priorities.
They are: engaging the Chamber’s members, building on the Chamber’s Recharge & Recovery initiative, and leading with transparency and accountability.
With those three priorities in mind, Cameron is eager to lead the Chamber into its next phase as the city and the city’s businesses continue to get past the pandemic. z

In April, the National Republican Senatorial Committee launched a 10-day ad buy against Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, on Spanish-language television.
The ad, entitled ‘Daño’ which means damage in Spanish, attacks Kelly over infl ation and border security.
“Groceries are skyrocketing and gas prices are rising,” a voiceover states.
While Americans of all ethnicities are concerned about infl ation, a 2021 Bank of America survey found that people of color, especially Black and Latino Americans, spend more of their income on essential goods that are prone to price hikes, like food and gas. So infl ation hits them the hardest.
Jamie Regalado, a professor of political science and expert on Hispanic voting patterns, told Reuters that infl ation is quickly becoming a “nightmare issue” for Democrats.
“We are coming into a midterm cycle that rarely favors the party in power, even in better times. Throw infl ation into the picture, without knowing if it’s going to end any time soon, it shows the peril Democrats have in 2022 with Latino voters,” he said. z

Other reports have suggested that the offi cer happened to be working nearby and hurried over to the scene on his own, without waiting for backup, with the objective of killing Ramos.
These reports and rumors of border control agents being present at the scene of a crime in a predominantly Latinx populated region, has led many to worry for the safety and well-being of the family members affected.
“They’re considered ‘fi rst responders’ a whole 100 miles away from the border,” one Twitter user wrote.
According to The Telegraph, the presence of border patrol agents in Uvalde is supposedly quite common, given that the area is home to an ICE station, and they often assist local law enforcement when needed. z
