This quarter we find out why Birmingham's Watkins Trucking is one Alabama's oldest family owned trucking operations. Led by former ATA Chairman of the Board Wayne Watkins and his brothers, the family reflects on 75 years of trucking and cast their vision for the next 75 years. Meanwhile, a few miles up the road from Watkins’ headquarters, the Alabama Dept. of Transportation is tearing down and rebuilding the 50-year-old bridge system that runs through the city's Central Business District along I-59/20. For months, trucking leaders feared the side effects of the 14-month shutdown, but so far, so good as disruption to trucking operations along the route have been negligible. And lastly, we look at the ATA's newly formed Foundation which seeks to create goodwill and a more favorable image for trucking.
