Rise up: The Art of Bread Baking
AGES 6-12
The only thing better than the smell of homemade bread is being able to eat the bread. This bread making class teaches kneading techniques, the science behind yeast, flour varieties, bread shapes and loaf pans, using various baking tools, and incorporating interesting herbs into breads. Program also includes the making of jams, marmalades, and butters.

This colorful camp will explore creativity in cooking. Going beyond your typical cooking class, this is a week long immersion into the world of food. Learn to cook, bake, think, and taste like a professional chef. Campers will uncover the ways in which flavors are created and learn the art of balance. Data Science: Virtual Camp!
AGES 11-15
How do you make the correct decisions based on data? Data Science is the art of understanding how to interpret large data sets and make the right inferences. With this camp, you will learn to interpret data using Panda, MatPlotLib and Seaborn libraries in Python, as well as learn to visualize data using bar charts, heatmaps, and scatter plots to make inferences. You will then learn how to curate your data set to amplify your understanding of the data. You will be using numerous useful datasets, like FIFA rankings and Spotify Daily Streams to find global leaders, Computer Game Ratings to decide the next game design, and specific diseases to understand how classification and AI can help find a cure.

Minecraft isn't just the world's most popular game; it's also an excellent tool for teaching a wide array of subjects. At Athena, we've developed a project-based approach to a variety of important topics using Minecraft Educational; our course will cover personalized game design, animation, and storytelling, programming in Python and Javascript, architecture and design, the fundamentals of electrical circuitry using Minecraft's patented Redstone circuit system, logic gates, multi-system mechanisms, modding and more!

During this course you will learn how to create user interfaces, develop simple games for android devices, utilize device sensors, and create your own virtual assistant like Siri or Alexa. Run the apps you create on your Android tablet/phone or iPad/iPhone. (A physical device is strongly preferred as many of the sensors we will be using are not present in the emulator).
Bring your game ideas to life in Roblox! We'll guide you through the lifecycle of game development; you'll sketch out an idea, design your game, and complete a finished product! AGES 8-13
Veteran Albany Middle School English teacher Abby Skrivan, MA, offers weeklong creative writing workshops for kids and early teens. Students join a fun, student-directed writing community as they engage in all aspects of the writing process. Through a wide range of writing exercises, including cooperative games, observational writing, poetry, story writing and peer-editing, students will develop their writing voices. This unforgettable week will culminate in the production of a bound "literary journal." Morning and afternoon sessions available.

Kids Carpentry teaches children the safe use of hand tools in a fun environment. Friendship Camp Subsidy Program
This summer the City of Albany is offering financial subsidies to income eligible Friendship Camp participants. The subsidies are available to campers and junior counselors who reside in Albany. This temporary program is funded through Albany’s American Rescue Plan Act funds of 2021.

Come join us at Friendship Elementary Summer Camp for children entering 1st through 5th grades in Fall 2023! The camp balances indoor and outdoor play between facilities located at Ocean View Park. Children will explore arts, crafts, engineering, and science related activities. Varied weekly activities will be accompanied by walking field trips to different Albany locations. Kinder summer Camp
Join our Friendship Kinder Summer Camp for children entering TK & Kindergarten in 2023! Kinder Camp is a half-day camp that incorporates indoor and outdoor play and walking field trips to the Memorial Park playground. Junior Counselor Summer Program
The Junior Counselor program offers tweens and teens from 6th-10th grade the opportunity to spend their summer having fun and gaining valuable leadership experience working with children. During the week, participants will join Recreation Leaders to assist with various camp projects and games while having a good time.
This is a great program for those who have aged out of Friendship Club and are ready to take on more responsibilities. Older teens will benefit from leadership experience to put on their resume in preparation for their first job!
JC Registration Information:
• Junior Counselors are encouraged to participate in all program correspondence including: registering, calling, emailing, organizing and initiating! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
• Junior Counselors will be required to participate in a training session.
• During registration JC participants will be able to select what age group and time of day they would like to be at camp. Kinder Camp

Friendship Club 2023-2024
Friendship Club is an afterschool oasis where children are nurtured, respected, and create their own community within our walls. Our curriculum is inquiry based and driven by the interests of the children. Participants have an opportunity for indoor and outdoor play, along with having time for relaxation and homework.
Friendship Club will run from August 2023 – June 2024 and correspond with the AUSD Calendar for days off and vacations from school.

Yoga with Viji
ADULT 11-OLDER
In these 90-minute classes, students will learn a range of asanas (poses) and pranayamas (breathing techniques) that Viji has learned from some of India's best yoga teachers. She has included a few other easy immune system-boosting exercises that could be particularly useful in this time of a pandemic but are not a traditional part of yoga. The class includes the practice of meditation and guided relaxation.
Viji has been teaching yoga in the US and in India for almost 30 years. She is certified in the Sivananda system but has taught other systems as well. She is also an acuyoga teacher, an acupressurist and a Buteyko breathing technique teacher.

Begin your day by exploring gentle, therapeutic, and graceful movements. Staying connected to our breath, we become present with every moment and every sensation in the body. In this class, we will learn the traditional Yogic asanas (postures) in the style of Hatha Yoga to increase the flexibility and endurance of the body
The class starts with exercises lying on the floor called “floor barre” for core strengthening, flexibility, extension and to warm up the body in preparation for basic ballet exercises at the barre to classical music. A good posture along with the proper use of head, shoulders, arms, hands and feet is emphasized to allow the student to move across the floor with ease and confidence. The class is open to all and is gentle enough for anyone with no ballet experience.

Cooking with Chat
Chat Mingkwan was classically trained in cooking in Rayon, France. A native of Thailand, he began cultivating and cooking Thai food as a child, working alongside his mother and aunt in their successful restaurant and hotel. He has traveled throughout Southeast Asia and mastered the local cuisines. Chat is currently a cooking teacher, author, food and restaurant consultant.

Memoir Writing
AGES 50–OLDER
Students read their own writings to the class for its criticism and evaluation. The teacher adds another voice, pointing out basic principles and approaches to effective non-fiction prose. The idea is to make our memoir writing as vivid and effective as it can be so that it will not be filed somewhere in the dark but will be read and re-read with enjoyment by children, grandchildren, and even by strangers yet unborn. No one is required to read out loud, or to withhold other kinds of writing, which are welcome. We try for a low-pressure, respectful atmosphere in which embarrassing events and deep emotions may be safely exposed.

During the event, Albany residents can pick up free, bagged compost that is locally made using yard trimmings and food scraps picked up from residential curbside green carts.

Citywide Garage Sale

The Citywide Garage Sale is a great way to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials. Items bought and sold at garage sales help reduce the amount of items that may otherwise be sent to the landfill.
People from across the City host garage sales in front of their homes as a way to reduce the community’s environmental impact by giving otherwise thrown away items a second life (and make a little extra cash!). The City of Albany partners with the City of El Cerrito to advertise for the Citywide Garage Sale.
