ashtags are so heavily ingrained in social media that they seem to many – especially the younger generation – as an invention of Twitter. Those who saw communication technology evolve from dial-up telephone sets to push-button ones (a great technological leap of its time) saw this sign and got to know it as the “pound sign”, but this memory has been erased from their minds with the modern-day use of the hashtag. With the surge of social media, it has become a lot easier to introduce a new trend, but equally easier to forget their origins. The hashtag is said to have been first used in 2007. A Chris Messina, on 23 August 2007, tweeted: “How do you feel about using # (pound) for groups. As in #barcamp [msg]?”. So this is where it all began, and now, as we write these words, the hashtag as we know it today is eleven-and-a-half years old. This decade of “hashtagging” (we ignored the autocorrect red line here and take it as a term, even if it isn’t just yet) has shown the world the power of symbols.
Science spent centuries to prove the power of numbers, literati spent their lives – that could collectively span centuries – to prove the power of words. But it took only a decade for social media to prove the “power of symbols”; hashtag a word or phrase on Twitter, go to sleep and wake up in the morning to see millions on your side. But are these millions really on your side? Does the hashtag really show support? Can you count on these soaring numbers to gauge the true magnitude of a trend? In some cases, you can. Among the many hashtags that got popular support was #MeToo where women got a chance to voice their bitter memories of sexual assault. While this trend was seen by many as a platform to speak up and ask for justice to be done, linguists, jurists and religious clergy (and some of those accused of assault) felt that it was about time that terms were explained. When a handshake, a touch or even a gaze were classed as whistleblowers of assault, it was thought that the term “assault” be clarified for jurists and
jurors to be able to do justice. We do not intend to give judgments, in fact we would like to thank all who were involved, especially victims, for voicing what was buried in their hearts for so many years as this opened up ways for the Western society and modern world to explore alternative ways of living a modern yet decent life. We also express our sympathy to them. But what we want to remind our readers of here is that whatever happened to the women (and also men) may have been avoided if heed was paid to the message of Islam. Men from different age groups and various walks of life expressed vividly on a BBC programme that they would rather not shake hands with women if results, a decade or two down the line, could be so dreadfully unpredictable. Some men expressed their concern over looking women in the eyes while talking, lest a “lustful” intention got unintentionally communicated. Then there Continued on page 2
Hadith-e-Rasul – Sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa The Oppressed One Forgiving the Oppressor Hazrat Abu Huraira, Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Whoever has oppressed another person concerning his reputation or anything else, he should beg him to forgive him before the Day of Resurrection when there will be no money (to compensate for wrong deeds), but if he has good deeds, those good deeds will be taken from him according to his oppression which he has done, and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Mazalim)
Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, In His Own Words Obligations and Voluntary Deeds All the virtuous deeds performed by a person may be divided into two categories: obligatory and voluntary. Obligatory deeds refer to that which is compulsory on man, such as the repayment of a debt or goodness in kind. In addition to these obligations, every good deed is accompanied by an aspect of voluntary service, that is to say, virtue which is above and beyond the call of duty. An example of this would be for one to reciprocate greater benevolence than that shown to him by another. This serves to complete and perfect compulsory actions. This Hadith expounds that the saints of Allah perfect their religious obligations through the observance of voluntary acts of worship. For example, in addition to Zakat, they also give charity. Allah the Exalted becomes the friend of such people and states that this relation grows to such intimacy that He becomes the hands, feet, etc. of such a person; in fact, He even becomes the tongue with which such a person speaks. were men, like the investment bankers and stockbrokers at Wall Street, who suggested, according to a recent Bloomberg article: “No more dinners with female colleagues. Don’t sit next to them on flights. Book hotel rooms on different floors. Avoid one-on-one meetings.” (www.bloomberg.com, published on 3 December 2018) The same article goes on to report that “in fact, as a wealth adviser put it, just hiring a woman these days is ‘an unknown risk.’ What if she took something he said the wrong way?” So what we see here, from men, is an extreme reaction. Some suggest extreme segregation as the answer: men and women should be completely segregated. To this, many women, like Deputy Mayor of New York City Alicia Glen, turn around and say that a Victorian-style segregation is not the answer to this issue. So what is the best way? The head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa, has shed light on this very issue on many recent occasions. He has mentioned what Islam expects from men and women in a society where both genders have to live side by side. There is no restriction on women working, nor are women asked to stay shut inside their homes. Men and women both are allowed to live their lives to its fullest, but it is necessary to stay within a moral and ethical framework. The West only seems to see women being
covered in cloth and holds that against Islam. What they rarely get to see is what men are required to do: lower their gazes, show respect, be helpful, forsake their own rights for the sake of women and never to bring them harm. Even bylaws set out for Islamic warriors as they departed for wars of self-defence clearly stated that no woman was to be harmed. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has an auxiliary organisation exclusively for women to contribute to their welfare, their nation and humanity at large. Ahmadi women, while observing purdah, have done wonders; they still do. It was Ahmadi Muslim women who raised funds in Qadian and made possible the establishment of the Fazl Mosque – the first ever mosque in the heart of the “modernised, liberal, moderate, enlightened” West. It was Ahmadi Muslim women who, in their headscarves and long coats, publicly displayed their solidarity with their nation through the human-chain on Westminster Bridge when the UK Parliament was made a target of a potential terrorist attack. It is essential that the teachings of Islam are understood to see how Islam is extremely respectful towards women, how it protects their rights and how they are seen to be those who can lead one to paradise.

amaat-e-Ahmadiyya Finland organised Jalsa Tarbiyat-e-Aulad – an event to highlight the importance of instilling good morals and religious education in Waqifeen-e-Nau – under the local Waqfe-Nau department on 24 November 2018. Jalsa Tarbiyat-e-Aulad and a question and answer session on domestic matters were held under the Waqf-e-Nau and Rishta Nata (matrimonial affairs) departments respectively at Helsinki Salat centre. Aside from the attendees present at the centre, several Waqifeen along with parents from other cities participated in the event via live stream from their respective Salat centres. The programme was presided by Ata-ul-Ghalib Sahib, National President Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Finland. The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Jareeullah Junba Sahib followed by a nazm of the Promised Messiahas by Mutahir Ahmad Danish Sahib. Farrukh Islam Sahib, Secretary Waqfe-Nau then delivered a speech on guiding children and the responsibilities of Waqifeen-e-Nau. In his speech, he referred to the thoughtful teachings and personal model of Promised Messiahas. In light of these pure anecdotes, he concluded that the Promised Messiahas, through his actions, demonstrated that parents held a key role in the moral upbringing of their children. He then explained the procedure of joining the Waqf-e-Nau scheme and expounded on the roles and responsibilities of Waqifeene-Nau. A documentary on the same topic was
then played, in which there was great advice of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa to Waqifeen. In this video, regarding the guidance of children and the role of parents, Huzooraa said that from the beginning, the parents should guide their children in a way that they should know the importance of being part of Waqf-eNau from a young age. With this thought in mind, the children would serve the Jamaat in the true sense. After the video documentary, Ataul-Ghalib Sahib explained the aims and objectives of this Jalsa to the parents. In his speech, he mentioned that the event aimed to explain the teachings of the Promised Messiahas and guidance of Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa to the parents regarding the guidance and upbringing of children. Missionary in-charge Jamaat-eAhmadiyya Finland, Musawer Ahmad Shahkar Sahib discussed the issues and problems concerning domestic matters and Rishta Nata. Following that, a question and answer session was held with questions asked by both men and Lajna members. The gathering concluded with a silent prayer. With the blessings of Allah, the Tarbiyat-e-Aulad event remained very successful and 88 individuals including Waqifeen and other members of the Jamaat participated in this blessed meeting. May Allah enable all the participants to bring pure changes in themselves. Amin.
This Week in History 14-20 December 14 December 1902: The Promised Messiahas was in Qadian and it is reported that there were some guests in town, some from Lahore and some who had travelled all the way from Burma, to seek blessings from the company of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas.
Messiahas issued an announcement for members of his community with immediate effect that any large gathering in town was prohibited. This leaflet was published at Anware-Ahmadiyya press, Qadian. It can be said that this was the maiden publication of this press in town.
15 December 1859: LL Zamenhof was born on this day. He was a Polish linguist and ophthalmologist, who created Esperanto. The international Esperanto community observes this day in connection to his birthday. The worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat leads a mission to provide the word of God to the world; the Quran in every language. An Ahmadi Muslim, Mr Abdul Hadi (Italo) Chiussi (19191973) was an Italian Esperantist and member of the Academy of Esperanto. He translated the Holy Quran into the Esperanto Language. He knew French, English, German and classical Arabic and had vast knowledge of Islamic history and jurisprudence.
20 December 1895: The Promised Messiah’sas Urdu book Nur-ul-Quran’s (The Light of the Holy Quran) second part came out on this day from Ziaul-Islam press, Qadian. To familiarise the readers with its background I share the following: Fateh Masih, a Christian missionary, was posted at Fatehgarh, district Gurdaspur. He wrote two letters to the Promised Messiahas in which he resorted to abuse with regard to the Holy Prophetsa of Islam. He wrote in a scurrilous manner concerning his marriages, character and the Islamic concept of paradise. In answer to these letters, the Promised Messiahas wrote the second part of Nur-ul-Quran. It was priced at eight annas and spanned about 80 pages.
15 December 1886: The Promised Messiahas wrote a letter to his beloved companion Hazrat Munshi Rustam Alira. The header of this letter carried the impression of his two rings as a stamp mark. The first impression was of the oldest ring, which was made in 1876 after the demise of his father – the ring with the inscription of the famous revelation, “Alaisallahu Bikafin ‘Abdahu”, meaning, “Is Allah not Sufficient for His Servant?” The second impression was of the ring that the Promised Messiahas had made in, or around, 1892. That ring bears the revelation (c. 1884), “Udhkur ne‘mati-allati an‘amtu ‘alaika. Gharastu laka biyadi rahmati wa qudrati”; meaning, “Remember My bounty that I bestowed upon you. I have planted for you a tree of My mercy and My power with My Own hand.” 16 December 1902: Abu Saeed Sahib was a famous Arab merchandiser and traveler of his time. He spent a considerable amount of time in the Indian subcontinent and its adjacent states and countries like Myanmar. On this day, he entered the fold of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya after reading the book of the Promised Messiahas Ainae-Kamalat-e-Islam (Reflecting the Excellences of Islam). 18 December 1902: The plague was spreading with great speed and claiming lives in a barbaric way. Jalsa Salana was fast approaching, so as a precautionary measure, the Promised
20 December 1905: The Promised Messiah’sas Urdu book Al-Wasiyyat (The Will) was printed on this day. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas was Divinely directed to write a book outlining the structure of a permanent system whereby the work of the propagation of Islam and dissemination of the Divine message as contained in the Holy Quran continued forever. So, he announced the system of Wasiyyat, an arrangement that is self-sustaining and based on dedication and pledging at least onetenth from one’s income and property in the cause of financing this noble mission. In order to qualify for this blessing, he laid down ten strict conditions so that Ahmadis could prepare themselves as God-fearing persons. And then he prayed fervently for such persons who had forsaken the world for the sake of God. CORRECTION: In the 30 November 2018 issue, it was written that an Amin ceremony was held in Qadian in 1901, where three children of the Promised Messiahas celebrated the completion of one reading of the Quran. The name of Hazrat Nawab Amatul Hafeez Begumra was mistakenly written, when in fact the correct name is Hazrat Nawab Mubaraka Begumra. Please note this for the print version. The edit has been made online.

he Ahmadiyya Jamaat in Italy had its first Peace Symposium in Parma on 29 November 2018. The department of Umur-e-Kharija Italy, together with the local Jamaat of Parma, organised this event under the title: Peace and Justice – Our Responsibility. The event was publicised through Facebook and flyer distribution. The guests arrived at the location, which is the headquarters of the Christian Saveriani Missionaries in Parma, at 6:30pm for an “Aperitivo” (appetiser) and the programme started at 7:15pm with the recitation of the Holy Quran. After the national president, Abdul Fatir Malik Sahib, introduced the Jamaat to the guests, a message from the municipality of Parma was read out. Then Dr Luciano Mazzoni, an anthropologist of religions opened the discussion by presenting the religious representatives with questions on their religious responsibilities to establish peace and justice. Professor Maria Augusta Favali spoke on behalf of the Bahai Faith and Mr Silvio Daneo, Secretary General of Religions of Peace in Italy, spoke of his
First Italy Peace Symposium experience traveling the world for the Focolare Movement. After that, the Islamic point of view of establishing peace and justice was presented by myself as missionary of Italy. The programme concluded with a word of thanks by the local president of the Jamaat in Parma, Bashiruddin Twumasi Sahib, and silent prayer. Shoaib Malik Sahib, the national secretary of Umur-e-Kharija moderated the event. Among the participants there was a group of students, academics, religious representatives, members of the local administration and Christian missionaries. Although it was a weekday, the guests stayed until 9:45pm, when the programme ended. Alhamdolillah, the Jamaat in Parma has since received positive feedback from the guests who showed interest in participating in future events. Parma Jamaat is a Jamaat with a majority of Ghanaian Ahmadis living in Italy and is by the grace of Allah very active in tabligh and Umur-e-Kharija activities. May Allah reward them manifold.

ducation has always been of paramount importance in the history of the Jamaat. Right from its inception at the hands of the Promised Messiahas, special attention was given to educating the younger generation of the Jamaat. While most of us know that Madrasah-e-Ahmadiyya was founded by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, the Promised Messiah, to impart religious education and train Islamic scholars to propagate the message of Islam, it is worth noting that a secular education facility was also founded by Hazrat Ahmadas and named Talim-ul-Islam School. This school was established to train pupils in secular disciplines so that they could excel in education and serve not only the Jamaat but also the nation and the whole of humanity at large. Soon after it had been established, it could be seen rising to the top ranks of schools in the Punjab. How it excelled and expanded, and how it turned out to be an international phenomenon is a story in its own right and requires a few issues of the newspaper to cover it. However, here we mention how it was seen in its early days by the general public and how this impression was reflected in the press. What gave the students of Talim-ulIslam school a distinctive position among the schools of the Punjab was not only their educational excellence but their high moral standards. They would stand out among the thousands of students as the best in their educational pursuits, obedience, loyalty to their nation, perseverance and, above all, the excellent moral standards that they exhibited in (and even out of) their school premises.
Student strikes and boycotts had become a common occurrence in the days of political awakening of British India and it was in these days that a small school of a small community in a small town emerged to set new standards that were looked up to by all moderate, right minded people. We present below a report from The Tribune (Lahore) that was included in its issue of 10 July 1910. The report covered a strike where students from all major educational institutes had participated. “It will not be out of place if I draw the attention both of the Muslim leaders and the Muslim students to a class of students who may be put down as model students at least as far as their relations with their teachers are concerned. They are the students that come from the Qadian High School. “Whatever view we may hold with regard to the particular tenets of the sect which differentiate the Qadian sect from the orthodox Muslims, there will be no two opinions, I believe, as to the fact that the students that come from the Qadian High School are very obedient. Those who have had an occasion to test them in this respect will, I believe, endorse my opinion. “There have been 4 strikes among students in Upper India during the last two or three years viz, the strikes in Aligarh College, the Government College, Lahore, the Medical College, and the Islamia college, and on all these occasions the Qadian students were conspicuous for keeping aloof
Talim-ul-Islam College
from the strikers, in spite of the pressure that was brought to bear upon them by their fellow students. “I mention them here both to say a word of praise about them which they justly deserve and to offer to them as worthy models to be followed by the children of the orthodox Muslims. As the institution that is started by the Ahmadiyya community at Qadian produces such students, I think other Mahomedan institutions will do well if they also train the students on the same lines on which boys are trained at Qadian. “The Qadian students are very pious and strictly regular in the performance of their religious duties, and it is for this reason, I believe, that they are so law-abiding and obedient. I hope they will continue to deserve the credit they have earned and
keep up the reputation of their institution by ever treading in the path of obedience. They deem it their religious duty to obey every order which they receive from their leaders at Qadian and obedience to authority is one of the teachings which are particularly impressed not only on the students, but also on the members of the sect. “In the end, I once more urge on the leaders of the Mahomedan community the necessity of looking to the character and the religious training of their students. Let them try to teach them piety and morality and impress on them the teachings of Islam, and obedience to authority will follow as a necessary result.”

Over £1 Million Raised for Charity by Ansarullah UK
Rafi Ahmad Bhatti Naib Sadr Majlis Ansarullah UK
O
n Friday, 7 December, Majlis Ansarullah UK held its Charity Walk for Peace Cheque Presentation in the Tahir Hall, Baitul Futuh complex. Jalees Ahmad, attending the event on behalf of Al Hakam, reports that the Charity Walk for Peace was initially established in 1985 by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh and was registered as a charity in 2015. Since then, Majlis Ansarullah UK has been at the forefront in organising charity walks and various other events of this nature here in the UK. Over the past two decades, Majlis Ansarullah has raised millions of pounds which has been distributed to well over 115 UK based charities. This year alone the Charity Walk for Peace was able to support 157 UK-based registered charities of which the majority attended. Majlis Ansarullah UK collected over £1 million in 2018, making the total collections since 1998 to £5.2 million. In previous years, the donations were presented at the Houses of Parliament and at the House of Lords, however, this year, the Baitul Futuh Mosque complex was selected as it served multiple purposes, including the use of the large Tahir Hall which provided room for hundreds of guests and Jamaat members. Guests were invited at 6:30pm, where they received a tour of, what is commonly known as, the largest mosque in Western
Europe. The event started at 7:30pm with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the welcome address delivered by Sadr Majlis Ansarullah UK, Dr Ijaz Ur Rehman Sahib. In his address, he mentioned the importance of helping and serving mankind regardless of religion, caste, colour or creed and gave a brief history of Charity Walk for Peace. He attributed the success of Charity Walk for Peace to the guidance Majlis Ansarullah received and continues to receive from Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa.
The event was chaired by Syed Mansoor Shah Sahib, Acting Amir UK Jamaat. After the welcome address, an introduction to Charity Walk for Peace was given by the Chairman, Zaheer Ahmed Sahib, followed by short speeches from the guest speakers, who expressed their gratitude towards the charity work the Ahmadiyya Movement was doing. Speeches were delivered by Sir Ed Davey MP, Tom Brake MP, Siobhan McDonagh MP and Mohammad Asghar MP Welsh Assembly, just to name a few. Continued on page 6

Seasonal Flu
Dr Noureen Ahmad General Practitioner, Belgium
The seasonal flu, also known as influenza, is a viral infection in the body caused by the influenza viruses. The most common type of the flu is the influenza virus type A and influenza virus type B, both of which occur mostly in the winter months. A few years ago, there had been a widespread outbreak of the swine flu and bird flu around the world, which resulted in hospitalisation and even death. This was because this kind of influenza virus was new and derived from the influenza viruses of infected swine and birds. The seasonal flu often causes infections that affect the respiratory system. This means that these viruses can easily spread by breathing in airborne droplets of infected individuals that are coughing or sneezing. There is also a chance of it spreading through direct contact with contaminated surfaces, which is most likely to be in crowded places (public transport, public buildings such as schools, colleges, universities and hospitals). After getting in contact with the flu viruses, the clinical symptoms of the flu start within 1-3 days, however this is variable. Symptoms of the flu are variable but are mostly present as cold-like symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat and coughing. High fever is also usual as well as body aches, extreme tiredness and headaches. In some cases, it can also cause swollen glands in the neck. Stomach complaints and intestinal problems are usually rare in the seasonal flu. Doctors, based on the clinical symptoms, make diagnosis of the flu. Further investigations such as blood tests or imaging are not required. A throat or a nose swab is not a standard procedure unless there is a doubt of a new type of influenza virus. One of the most common complications of influenza is pneumonia (bacterial lung infection). This can occur in individuals with underlying chronic illnesses. In these patients, there is a relapse of the fever after initial improvement and no health improvement after a few days. They can also develop other symptoms such as coughing up yellow-green mucus, chest pain and breathing problems. In this situation, it is recommended to contact the doctor to perform blood tests and imaging of the chest to obtain the severity of the condition and optimise treatment. Normally, the seasonal flu is self-limiting and heals within 1-2 weeks, however this period can be longer in some populations such as children, elderly people or individuals with chronic illnesses or with immune system disorders (HIV, transplantation patients). The mortality rate is high in these populations as they have many risk factors to develop complications of the flu. There is no specific treatment for the
seasonal flu, but there are tips that can ease the symptoms. It is important that you stay at home while you are sick and take sufficient rest. Intake of fluids is also important to keep the body hydrated. Cough syrups can be used in adults; however, these are not really effective. The cough usually resolves without treatment. A good natural remedy is the intake of warm fluids (soup, tea) and honey. Sometimes medication can be used to relieve symptoms. The most common medication in the seasonal flu is paracetamol. This medication helps against body pains and also controls the fever. Mostly, paracetamol is recommended for pain as a first line treatment as it is safe in most cases and side effects are rare. This can also be used by children (liquid form available) and pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patients with kidney or liver problems or patients using other medication should discuss this with their doctor first. The standard dose for healthy individuals is maximum 3-4 grams daily, however it is preferable not to use more then 3 grams daily. Children have to take a lower dose, depending on their age and weight, and will usually be determined by their doctor or a pharmacist. Aspirin is not advised for children and teenagers under the age of 18 years as it can cause severe side effects. Some patients ask for antibiotics as they think that antibiotics can make them heal quicker. However, antibiotics work on bacterial infections and not on viral infections like the flu. This means that antibiotics have no effect on the duration of the flu, but instead can cause side effects and can also lead to antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which can consequentially lead to infections, which will be difficult to treat. As we all know, prevention is better than cure. Flu can be prevented if individuals are attentive on having good hand hygiene and prevent close contact with individuals who are already infected. There is also a vaccine against the seasonal flu, which is mostly given around the period of October and November. This can vary slightly from country to country. Every year, this flu vaccine is modified and adjusted to the viruses’ pool. Although the flu vaccine can prevent having the flu, this is not a full guarantee. If one still gets the flu after the flu vaccine, they will have less chance of getting severely ill from the flu. The vaccine is advisable for pregnant women, people above the age of 65 years and patients with chronic illnesses. (Always discuss with your doctor what supplements you want to take or are taking so your health and wellbeing can be properly looked after.)

T
he Mexico City chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Mexico had the opportunity to participate in a presentation organised and held at the Interamerican University (Universidad Interamericana para el desarrollo) on 23 November 2018. A group of students of Interamerican University were assigned to study Islam as an end-of-semester project. Thus, the group of students approached the Jamaat through social media to interview a representative. The students visited the mission house in Mexico City and interviewed me. Later, the group of students organised an event to be held at the university to introduce Islam and Ahmadiyyat to the rest of the students in the University. During the presentation at the university, there were more than 60 students and 5 professors who attended. The presentation was based on basic teachings of Islam and Ahmadiyyat and it was followed by questions and answers. The presentation and the question and answer session lasted a little over two hours. The Holy Quran with Spanish translation was on display along with an introductory book about Islam and Ahmadiyyat, which was distributed to those interested in learning more and those who plan on visiting the Jamaat’s mission house in Mexico City.

n part nine of this article series, it was discussed how Jesusas never demonstrated the power and attributes of God in his own being and with his personal will. Whatever he did was nothing more than what other prophets of God have done. This makes him a human being. In this article, which is the final of this series, seven further proofs of the “humanness” of Jesusas will be discussed so that this fact can be established affirmatively. First, it is a clear and known fact that Jesusas used to eat food, just as all the other human prophets of God, and the Holy Quran also points out: َّ ٰ ُ ۡ َ َ َ َ اﻟﻄ َﻌ ﺎم ﺎﻧﺎ ﻳﺎﻠ ِﻦ That is, “They both [i.e. Jesusas and his mother] used to eat food” (Surah al-Maida, Ch.5: V.76). Luke 24:42-43 affirms that Jesusas ate in the presence of his disciples.

Distinguished guests included four members of parliament, twelve mayors, several ex-mayors, deputy mayors, councillors, London Metropolitan Police commander, headteachers, teachers and school children, scouts, members of armed forces and air force along with more than 100 Charity representatives. The total external guests registered were over 250. Guests were joined by over 250 charity champions and volunteers who made this year’s walk a success. The total attendance was over 550. Apart from cheque distribution to charities, various awards were also presented to Majalis, regions and individuals who had helped collect outstanding amounts of funds. The concluding address was delivered by Syed Mansoor Shah Sahib, Acting Amir UK Jamaat, in which he emphasised the teachings of Islam that seek to continue fulfilling the rights owed to God and the rights owed to the creation of God. The event concluded with silent prayer led by Mansoor Shah Sahib, followed by dinner. Alhamdolillah, the event was very successful and paved way for stronger bonds with other charity organisations that wish to help humanity.
Since the eating of food suggests a need, and God is free from all needs, Jesusas Christ could not have been God. Second, the divinity of Jesusas defies logic as it requires the brothers and sisters of Jesusas to also be gods based on deductive reasoning. The Greek philosopher Aristotle is considered the father of deductive reasoning and he wrote the following example to explain this reasoning: • All men are mortal • Socrates is a man • Therefore, Socrates is mortal In the case of Jesusas, it should follow like this in order to be logical: • Mary had children • Jesusas, son of Mary, is god • Therefore, children of Mary are gods Christians would not agree that the children of Mary are gods just like Jesus Christas. Hence, based on this logic, which is also
called syllogism, Jesusas cannot be God. The correct form of this logical argument is as follows: • Mary had human children • Jesusas is the son of Mary • Therefore, Jesusas is human The Promised Messiahas writes: “Syllogism requires that when a god can be born from the womb of a created being, and not that a human is born from a human and a donkey is born from a donkey, then wherever a god is born from the womb of a woman, no created beings should be born from that womb. Instead, all the children born (from it) should be gods”. (Barahin-eAhmadiyya, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 1, p. 442) Third, the virgin birth of Jesusas is not sufficient evidence for his Divinity. If the premise of the argument from a Christian perspective is that Jesusas is God because of his virgin birth, then other beings who are born without a father should also be considered gods. The book of Hebrews mentions King Melchizedek of Salem and then says, “Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.” (Hebrews 7:3) If the standard for the divinity of a person is virgin birth, why is King Melchizedek not believed to be the literal son of God just like Jesusas? Fourth, belief in the divinity of Jesusas leads to the conclusion that God is unfair and miserly (God forbid). This is because He chose only one person to be His son. It is against the infinite grace and majesty of God that He selected only one individual for such a blessing, and no one else was given this honour. Continued on page 7

4th Annual Peace Conference in Epernay, France Bilal Akbar France Correspondent
O
n Sunday, 4 November, a small town in France held their Annual Peace Conference. This was the fourth conference organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Epernay. The theme this year was The Basic Principles for Establishing Sustainable Peace. Various religious and worldly personalities were sent invitations to come and discuss the matter at hand. The guests were welcomed and the programme started with the recitation of the Holy Quran with French translation. As missionary serving in Epernay, I introduced the Jamaat and talked about the need for this programme and why the Jamaat holds events like this around the world. The first speaker was Michelle Horviller, President of Epernay Jewish community. After mentioning the recent attack on a synagogue in America, Michelle Horviller emphasised the need to invite the world towards peace and then establishing it in today’s era, a task everyone should focus on. The second speaker was Abida Sharif, representative of the Mayor. She appreciated the initiative of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Epernay and pledged her support. The third speaker was Madame Marie Thérèse
who represented Protestantism. To present her viewpoint she presented a poem “Presiding Over Peace” from Protestant teachings. To represent Islam was Naseer Ahmad Shahid Sahib, Missionary In-charge Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya France. He talked about how Islam teaches us to establish peace in every aspect of life and gave examples of this from the life of the Holy Prophetsa. By talking about the real teachings of Islam, he nullified the emerging allegations on Islam. The last speech of the conference was by Ashfaq Rabbani Sahib, Amir Jamaat-e-
Ahmadiyya France. He thanked all the guests for taking time out to attend the event. Towards the end, he presented some extracts from speeches of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa. In the end, all the speakers were presented with gifts. Later, all the guests enjoyed refreshments and mingled with local Ahmadis. A total of 140 people attended this event out of which 96 were guests, Alhamdolillah. May Allah give us courage to dedicate our lives for the propagation of Islam as is the desire of our Imam, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih Vaa.

ajlis Ansarullah Pakistan conducted its 16th Annual Ilmi (Educational) Rally supervised by the department of Talim (Education) from 9 to 11 November 2018. The opening ceremony of the 3-day event was held on 9 November at around 4pm. One of the guests who became part of the
ceremony was Abdul Khaliq Bengali Sahib, Secretary for Ansar Section of the United Kingdom. Dr Abdul Khaliq Khalid Sahib, Sadr Majlis Ansarullah Pakistan, delivered the opening address and concluded the ceremony with silent prayer. More than 250 Ansar from 55 districts of 16 regions of Pakistan attended this 3-day event. Participants were provided with convenient accommodation in Darul Ziafat, Waqf-e-Jadid guesthouse and the guesthouses of Nasir, Masroor and Khidmat. A temporary place for offering Salat was arranged in the lawn of Ansarullah offices and arrangements for watching the live Friday Sermon of Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa were made in Aiwan-e-Nasir. The place for having meals was arranged in the lawn of Jalsa Salana of-
fice. Organisers worked hard to help facilitate and assist the members of Majlis Ansarullah participating in the event, especially the departments of reception, registration and emergency care unit. Competitions were held between districts. Three participants from a district having more than a thousand Ansar, two participants from a district having more than five hundred Ansar and one from each of the other districts were allowed to take part in a competition. There were 11 competitions which included recitation of the Holy Quran, test of memorised parts of the Quran, quiz of the Quran’s translation, quiz based on books of Promised Messiahas, poem, extempore speech, regular speech level, regional expert speech level, bait bazi (competition where each team has to recite a couplet from memory beginning with the last letter of the couplet recited by another team), quiz based on the speeches of Huzoor and a quiz based on religious knowledge. The competitions began with a quiz on the Quran’s translation after the conclusion of the opening ceremony. A mushaira (poetry recital) was held in Aiwan-e-Nasir on the evening of the second day of the event where profound poets from all over Pakistan presented there poetry. Everyone participated with full enthusiasm and interest. May Allah the Almighty safeguard Majlis Ansarullah Pakistan from all evils and help us in organising successful rallies.

The Promised Messiahas writes: “This [belief] leads to disrespect and contempt of God, the Exalted. It accuses God of being a miser that He selected only one individual to be the manifestation of His powers, and He limited His blessings to Jesusas alone. Think about it! If there is only one individual in the dominion of a King, is this worthy of praise for the King or lack thereof?” (Malfuzat, Vol. 10, p. 223) Fifth, Jesusas is not God because he was not free of weakness. One of the most essential attributes of God is that He is pure and free from all defects, weaknesses, and impurities. In the case of Jesusas, he says very clearly that he was not free from weaknesses. Once a person called him “Good Teacher” and Jesusas said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone”. (Luke 18:19) Here, Jesusas very clearly says that God Alone is good in the truest sense and he himself does not want to be given such a title. This is a demonstration of the kind of humility that prophets of God always display. In light of this, the Promised Messiahas writes, “It is amazing that Jesus Christas never said anywhere that he was free from every sin and weakness in the sight of God”. (Jang-e-Muqaddas, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 6, p. 224) Sixth, if the life of Jesusas as presented in the Gospels is enough evidence to consider him the son of God in the literal sense, then all others with similar claims and similar lives must also be considered sons of God in the literal sense. In fact, not just those in the past, but those who make such claims in the future must also be seriously considered as candidates for being sons of God in the literal sense. This is not acceptable to any of the Christian apologists as they firmly propose that Jesusas is the only son of God. This in turn shows why Jesusas – like those other individuals – is not God. The Promised Messiahas explains this when he says: “All beliefs supported by reason are based on things seen as a whole, because they are inferred from universal principles, by induction. Hence, if a philosopher accepts the belief that Jesusas is God, and since arguments require universalism in order to be true, he is obliged to believe that hundreds of thousands of such gods came prior to him, and it is possible for them to come in the future as well, and this is obviously incorrect”. (Kitab-ul-Bariyya, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 13, p. 53) Seventh, if Jesusas died on the cross, he is not God. This is simply because it is against the very nature of God to die, as the New Testament also affirms, “It is he alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to him be honour and eternal dominion. Amen.”(1 Timothy 6:16) Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiahas writes: “Jesus even suffered death, despite being called ‘God’! Does God ever die? And if it was only a man who had died, then why do they claim that ‘the Son of God’ gave up his life for the sake of mankind?” (Fountain of Christianity, p. 20) These seven reasons are just a few among many others that conclusively and definitively prove that Jesusas was a humble, human, servant of God, and not God.

Friday Sermon 16 November 2018 Delivered from Baitul Futuh Mosque
USA and Guatemala Tour 2018 After reciting the Tashahud, Ta‘awuz, and Surah al-Fatihah, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa stated:
D
ue to the announcement of the new year of Tahrik-e-Jadid last Friday, I did not speak on the recent trip to the USA and Guatemala. By the Grace of God Almighty, such tours have very positive effects in terms of building a bond with our own members as well as externals and to oversee the administration of the Community. Due to direct observation and information, I get to know of many things. The three major benefits are that, firstly, I can meet intellectuals and influential people of such countries. This takes place by way of audiences and inauguration ceremonies or receptions of new mosques, etc. Secondly, people are introduced to the real teachings of Islam and Ahmadiyyat through the media coverage. The third major benefit is that a personal contact and bond is established with the members of the Community. This in turn increases them in their faith and sincerity and the relationship of love and brotherhood is strengthened. The personal meetings of the Khalifa with the members of the Community and then their mutual interaction with one another brings about an extraordinary change in them and instils a certain passion in them. Moreover, I am able to address them directly through my sermons in view of the current situation of those countries. By the Grace of God Almighty, during the tour of America, I had the opportunity to inaugurate three mosques. May God Almighty always keep these mosques filled with worshipers and may He continue to increase the sincerity and loyalty of the members of the Community. Wherever I went, starting from Philadelphia, Houston and Washington, children, young people, men and women all spent most of their time in and around the mosques. The parents of those children and even the relatives are still writing to me saying that when I was there, their children used to insist that they should go to the mosque as soon as possible. They showed a special connection to Khilafat. Then, upon coming to the complex, they used to spend the majority of their time in the mosque. During this trip, there was a large number of Pakistani Ahmadis in America who had come there having sought asylum or as refugees. They had come there from Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Nepal after having endured very difficult circumstances. The meeting with them, sometimes, created a very emotional situation; some of them would become extremely emotional. May God Almighty enable them that not only do they derive benefit from the comforts here and
an increase in wealth, but also always be mindful that they are to give precedence to their faith over the world and not to become immersed in the allure and attractions of this world. Now, I shall narrate some incidents regarding the tour. The political leaders of America, the academia and the public are generally open to listening to good advice and appreciate it. The true teachings of Islam have not been properly conveyed to them. Those, who have received the correct message, i.e. those who have close ties with the Community, have a positive perception of Islam. Thus, it is our duty to strive in spreading the true message of Islam in America, as well as the rest of the world
the teaching of Islam then it certainly seems that is a teaching that will succeed. I will also present some of the impressions of the guests. Honourable Dwight Evans, a member of the US Congress, attended the inauguration of the Baitul Afiyat Mosque in Philadelphia. In a very positive manner, he said to me, “I welcome you to this large city, the city of brotherly love. On behalf of Philadelphia and on behalf of the administration, I would like to say to a Muslim Community that your message of peace is welcome here.” He further said, “Some Americans have expressed their opinions against Islam over the recent years.” However, he said, “I would like to tell you that the majority
in the right manner. The true message of Islam, on the one hand, opens the eyes of the non-Muslims and elucidates the beautiful and peaceful teaching of Islam, and, on the other hand, gives confidence to the Muslims. The non-Ahmadi Muslims also learn about the true Islam and that they need not have any inferiority complex. This is experienced in many places and it was also experienced in America that when non-Ahmadi Muslims hear the beautiful teachings of Islam from us, it created a feeling of confidence in them and they do not need to feel any sense of inferiority. They also expressed this themselves. As a matter of fact, [they come to realise] that Islam alone is the solution for the problems of the world, that Islam alone is the means of establishing peace and harmony and that only the teachings of Islam guide us towards the solutions for social and domestic issues. Some non-Ahmadi guests, who attended our functions, expressed the fact that the manner in which we presented the beautiful teachings of Islam is in fact the true manner. Non-Muslims become astonished hearing this message and they also express their sentiments that if this is
here welcomes you. We stand with you and are against hate, prejudice and terrorism.” Expressing his sentiments, he further said, “You have given an extremely wonderful message in order to establish peace. It is unfortunate, that we are passing through a dark period in America, however this message is of great excellence in such a time. This proves the great importance of the Muslim community not only in America, but around the world.” He further said, “We are in need of hope and peace for the future. Philadelphia holds an important distinction with regards to religious freedom.” In relation to Philadelphia, it is famous that a treaty was formed for religious freedom, allowing every religion to stay there. He said, “This city is of great importance and in this regard will prove to be an excellent one for your mosque.” These were his impressions. Similarly, the local mayor was also present as well as other leaders. The Mayor, James Kenney, said, “From the history of the city of Philadelphia we find that religious freedom is part of its fundamental principles. This city was built on this very foundation. We may belong to various nations and races,
however, this city will welcome everyone.” Following this, he said, “We should work together and conduct ourselves towards one another with honour and respect and show the world that we can live together and eradicate our problems as well as those of our future progeny.” This in reality is the true teaching of Islam, which others are accepting and Muslims are forgetting. Then, a judge, Mr Harry Schwartz, also attended the programme. He said, “I have known this Jamaat for twenty-five years and I have discussed various issues over dinner on numerous occasions with the local president of the Community.” Following my address, he said “I believe that if this message of love, harmony and unity is understood, we will all be living in a world.” An African-American newly converted Muslim said, “There was a great need for a mosque here. A very beautiful centre has been built here. It is said that it takes ten years in order to change the surroundings. However, I have seen the society improve and progress within two years, which proves that if you are passionate, you can work together and achieve this.” Following the address he said, “This is an astonishing message and every word of yours penetrated my heart.” He is not an Ahmadi, but has become a Muslim. Then, an African-American lady said, “I learned many things from the address. I am hopeful that we will make these a part of our lives now and if we implement them, we will surely be on the right path.” She was also not an Ahmadi. There is another lady, Haniyyah Sahiba. She said, “The message presented by you will dispel the misconceptions that are spread in relation to Islam. Furthermore, it is of great joy that a centre for Muslims has been built here. People are prejudiced against Islam, which is entirely wrong. Your message was very powerful. I hope that this message spreads far and wide and that the people of America will come to know about the truth of Islam.” A local councillor attended the reception of the mosque inauguration. He said, “Your message of peace was very much needed. This message has become of even greater importance, considering the circumstances of today. Coming here is a great honour for me. I have seen this mosque being constructed before my eyes. The establishment of this mosque is a source of great blessings for this area. I believe that the message you presented that you will stand side by side with the neighbours at the time of need, is not only required here in Philadelphia, but all across America.”
9
Friday 14 December 2018 | AL HAKAM A Palestinian Muslim lady was also in attendance. She said, “Your message was very important. I belong to a small village in Palestine. Today, I had the chance to witness the true teachings, which I learnt in my childhood, through your address. This is the true Islam, which was mentioned. Whichever sect we belong to, it is our obligation to unite and work towards peace.” She further said, “You have truly represented all Muslim communities.” This is the opinion of these pure natured people. However, other Muslims should also realise that it is the Ahmadiyya Jamaat that is truly representing Islam. A teacher was in attendance, she said, “Your message of peace was magnificent. Even though I am a Catholic, I agree with each and every word. I can say with certainty that Islam presents a message of peace and that Islam teaches service to humanity.” There was a professor, who was representing the president of his university. He said, “The kind sentiments which you expressed for the people of this city are not only for today, but also for the future. One aspect I have seen in you is that you do not only speak about the present times, but are also looking ahead into the future.” Following this, he praised the address with very kind words. He said, “You have planted a seed here. Now, it is our responsibility to nurture it and make it flourish and to turn it into a strong tree of brotherhood and love.” Whilst expressing her sentiments, a lady said, “When you said that we will wipe your tears, how many people are there who can truly say this? This was so astonishing that I could not control my emotions. To convey a message there is no need to deliver a loud and passionate speech, instead you gave the message in a very loving manner.” I had said that we are ever-ready to help the poor and if anyone was in any pain, we were the ones who would wipe away their tears. A non-Ahmadi Imam was also present at the event. He said, “My initial contact with the Ahmadis was through the translation of the Holy Quran that was done by their community.” He has a copy of the translation of the Holy Quran by Maulvi Muhammad Ali Sahib. He further said, “Your message was very good and I agree with you one hundred percent. This is our mission and our objective. We are all the sons of Adam and we must continue to help raise the standard of living of one another. Together we must spread the true teachings of the Holy Prophetsa.” May Allah enable him to act upon this and these may not remain just mere words. The next day, the mosque in Baltimore was also inaugurated which was called Baitus Samad. This too was previously a church which was bought, renovated and transformed into a mosque. Coincidentally, this building was originally constructed that 99.9% was facing the direction of the Qibla [towards the Ka‘bah]. In this respect there was no need to make any major changes. Since I did not state much information of the mosque there, I shall now present some details. The expenditure of this mosque was $2 million. There are separate prayer halls for men and women in which 400 people can offer their prayers. Apart from this there are offices, a library, classrooms, a commercial kitchen and dining hall etc. It is situated on the highway and on average 45,000 cars go
past this highway every day. The mayor of Baltimore attended the reception. She said, “You spoke on the topic of peace. This is the message we need today, not just in our city, our state or in the USA, it is desperately needed in the whole world. I believe that everyone must hear this message. If we do listen to it we would come to understand that the only solution to the problems in the world is peace and we will learn to love one another.” A university professor here in Baltimore expressed his sentiments saying, “In spite of all the differences between us, we have a lot in common and this was an amazing message through which we can bring about a very significant change in society. We must work together and respect one another. This message is very much needed in the USA. As Americans we must not only work for ourselves, but also for our children. All of us in the society should come together and move forward. I was really impressed with this astounding message.” There was also a state representative of District 48. She said, “I was very impressed having heard this message, especially in the current situation where people fear Muslims and with the racial conflicts in this country. In such circumstances, I was very pleased that you drew our attention to our responsibilities. You advised us that we should love everyone and not harbour any hatred for anyone. This is exactly what we needed. Love, peace and justice – Baltimore must attain these high values.” Her husband was present and said, “My wife told me that this is a very important message for us all”. He then said, “No matter how much we try and talk about improving society, it would not be as effective as what the leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said here today, and this Muslim community is playing an outstanding role not just here, but in the whole of the USA.” A priest by the name Father Jo was in attendance and said, “During your address I was in agreement with everything you said because I have been to the Ahmadi mosque in Baltimore many times and say assuredly that whatever you stated I have witnessed with my own eyes over the last few years in the other mosques. This mosque is open to the whole community and I have been several times to the Friday prayers. I am witness to all this being put into practice and I was very pleased to hear this. People of different religions are all gathered here and talking about peace. This indeed is what we require, not only here in this city but in the whole world.” One lady described her feelings saying, “For me, there were very important points made in this address in view of the current state of affairs. There are big differences between Muslims and non-Muslims and between the black and white communities here. We must try to find a way of removing these distances and this is only possible through mutual respect. The definition you gave of who a neighbour is and the message of taking care of one’s neighbours was very impressive for me. After listening to this address I am more intrigued to learn about Islam and would like to express my gratitude to you all.” Bilal Ali Sahib, who is a Muslim and also a state representative from District 41 said, “The message you gave is resonating
here to all the people. This message is extremely important in creating an atmosphere of unity, harmony, love and affection. It will lend a great hand in dispelling the misgivings about Islam”. He then said, “You have aptly given us the solutions to many issues, especially with the state of affairs here, where to a certain extent the words and actions against the Muslims on a political level are stirring the emotions. You have come here and given us great direction in regard to these issues. In such conditions you have given us a wise message which no sane man can argue against. I have learnt from you a very simple solution to creating peace in society which is to start with your own home and to take care of your neighbours. You don’t have to go and change the whole world, only those who you meet. When you spread the love amongst them and care for them then there will be peace in society. Another simple technique you told us is that Islam says to call to the truth but the real true calling can only be through your example and conduct.” He further stated, “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has come forward to tackle the state of affairs in Baltimore and has shown its commitment to playing a positive role in society. This is a very commendable example which should be emulated.” May God Almighty continue to enable the Jamaat to show such a good example. Michelle Sahiba, who is a minister in the Presbyterian Church said, “It was an outstanding message. You emphasised unity and harmony and drew our attention to showing love to dispel all fears. This message carries a great significance. The purposes of building a mosque which you stated are very admirable. Also, the teaching of treating one’s neighbours with kindness was new to me. I found out today that your teaching of love and harmony is the same as taught in Christianity, but the media has portrayed Islam as a something completely different.” A historian named Dr Fatima said, “My specialisation is Islam in the USA and I have researched extensively into the spread of Islam in the USA. I am not a religious scholar, rather I am only a historian, but from the time you mentioned that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Sahib worked towards the revival of Islam in this era, I have been constantly thinking about this. I will now broaden my research to cover this as well. I am very pleased that the basis of my research will not only cover Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadianias, but also his writings and sayings through which he brought about this revival. Your message is remarkable. You mentioned that one should not only extend kindness to followers of other religions, rather one ought to show kindness to people of no faith as well.” She then said, “Your ideology that we should work for the betterment of humanity without discrimination of race, cast or creed is an exceptional message. Being a Muslim, we are seen in a suspicious manner, therefore, as a Muslim, listening to the teachings of Islam was an excellent step forward.” Then, on 3 November the inauguration of the Masroor Mosque took place in Virginia; this was also previously a church. The total area of the land is 17.6 acres and
was bought for 5 million [US] dollars. A further $75,000 were spent on small changes and renovations etc. This building is also almost in the same direction as the Qibla. The total covered area is 22,403 square feet. There are separate halls to accommodate men and women, in which 650 people can offer prayers. Aside from this there are 11 rooms which will be used as offices. There is also a library, a conference room and a commercial kitchen. At this reception, a guest by the name Corey Stewart, who is a republican candidate for the state elections, said, “The address was delightful and full of wisdom. The world as well as the US should listen attentively to the message of ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and also try to act on it, especially in these days when the situation of the world is worsening. It is extremely vital to uphold the freedom of religion, therefore this mosque is a symbol of pride for us because your community performs various services for our country.” Another guest, Matt Waters, who is also a senate candidate for Virginia state, said, “Having heard the address, I will now read more and increase my knowledge through the internet and in order to learn about Islam I would like to visit your mosque.” A Christian guest said, “This message was in complete accordance with the need of the time and extremely important. We heard a message of peace, which I was greatly impressed by and it had a significant impact on me.” Then a delegate for the 51st District of Virginia said, “This message was truly remarkable and was especially important given the present climate in the USA. His Holiness spoke of love and unity and that one should serve others selflessly and by giving them importance over themselves. In the present day political atmosphere, we are in need of this very message. Giving precedence to others over one’s own self is an exceptional message and one that is full of spirituality. To look after one’s neighbour and to think of their comfort over our own comfort is an extraordinary teaching. He stated that at times when one chooses to serve their own needs, they should instead give precedence to others.” Similarly there was a guest, Alex Keiseh, he said, “I was greatly impressed and was overcome with emotion, especially since I was a survivor of the Holocaust. This message was truly inspirational. Every word of yours reached the depths of my soul. Your message was full of wisdom when you said that we cannot fight with hatred. The only way to eradicate hatred is for one to strive against it with love. Hatred should be ended through love, and this love should be spread between each religion. We can see many examples of this love in our society, for example, this very event that you are holding. However, the media greatly focuses on a minority of people and only those elements that can give people the wrong message. Instead of spreading this kind of information, the media ought to spread mutual love and harmony.” He was very emotional afterwards. Initially during the meeting with me, he was slightly emotional but soon after, he began to cry saying that this message had a huge impact on him. Shanin Sahiba from New Jersey, who is a surgical co-ordinator, said, “We again have
10 been informed of the beautiful teachings of Islam. I also believe that simply holding an entire faith accountable for the wrongdoings of just a few individuals in itself is an act of great injustice.” She further said, “Here in the USA, incidents take place almost on a daily basis, however it would be wrong to hold the entire religion blameworthy.” Another guest, who is serving in the police department for the last 40 years, said, “This message was for the entire world. It gave timely advice on peace, harmony, love and fulfilling the rights of one another. In this area, 460,000 people of different colour and ethnicity live here and one of the most important aspects of this address was regarding the fulfilment of the rights of one’s neighbours.” Another guest was Dr Kimberly, who is a criminologist and also an author and has a PhD, she said, “We had the opportunity to listen to a very insightful message regarding peace and justice. According to this message, we all need to create a spirt of unity without any distinction of colour and ethnicity. In today’s address you presented the true image of Islam and its essence is to create a society of peace, justice and equality.” Expressing her sentiments, she became quite emotional and while tears were flowing from her eyes, she further said, “Those who are perpetrating such cruel and barbaric acts and thereby creating disorder in our communities and country in the name of religion, in fact have no relation to faith whatsoever, and it is important for everyone to understand this.” Another guest, Lorraine Sahiba, whilst expressing her sentiments said, “I have lived in this area for the last 30 years and have witnessed the changes that have taken place. The recent shooting incidents are indeed a tragedy, but this message of love, harmony and tolerance is indeed an excellent one. I am delighted to have been invited to this event and by coming here I have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The mosque is a beautiful addition to this area and I have completely no fear from it. This is a peaceful place and although I am not a Muslim, however I have come to the mosque and have been warmly welcomed here and this is exactly what our society needs. I would like to say that you will be organising many more programmes here, and apart from the Muslims, you should invite people of other faiths as well.” Aside from the mosque openings, as many people are aware that a hospital was opened in Guatemala under Humanity First. There was also an opening ceremony for it and many politicians were among those in attendance. One of the members of parliament, who has also twice come here to the Jalsa Salana UK was there and she also came to the airport to welcome me. She spoke very highly about the hospital and thanked the community for opening a hospital in her country. She also said that the Jamaat was striving towards creating love and unity amongst the communities. Robert Cano Sahib, who is the Vice Minister of Education in Paraguay, said, “The inauguration [of the hospital] was a wonderful event. I am quite astounded that the members of this Jamaat have come together to successfully complete this project and have done this for all those in need. This is a practical demonstration of
Friday 14 December 2018 | AL HAKAM their love for humanity.” He further said, “If mankind adopts this path of love then peace will be established in the world. By witnessing the Islamic faith and culture at close, I have had a very positive experience. I had many questions about the Ahmadiyya Community and I have been able to get the answers by coming here.” The Jamaat has been established in Paraguay for some years and he attended the opening upon their invitation. Another guest was a Vice Minister of Guatemala, who is also a doctor, Mrs Diana. She said, “I will also adhere to the message in the address in regards to helping the poor.” She further added, “I thank God that religion teaches us to help the poor and this is exactly what the Khalifa said in his address.” Another guest was a Guatemalan journalist. He said, “The one thing that impressed me the most was that there is no compulsion in faith, also that we should look after one another. We too should care for one another and this was the message which the head of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat gave. He also said that we all share the same rights, thus everyone is entitled to a quality lifestyle.” A journalist from El Periodico newspaper, Fernando Pineta said, “I was very impressed with the address you delivered and we also had a good meeting. The Nasir Hospital project is a wonderful project and we need many more projects like this in this country.” Another guest in attendance was a bank officer and he said, “The essence of the address was that we should show compassion towards mankind and the Nasir Hospital which you have opened here is a wonderful example of this.” Another guest was a bank manager and he said, “It was an extremely beautiful and simple message given on behalf of the entire Muslim Ummah, which is that it is the primary duty of everyone to help mankind. I was deeply impressed with the philosophy of the Ahmadiyya Community and will seek more information about it.” The Spanish edition of The Review of Religions was also launched in Guatemala. This new edition will be circulated in America, Latin America, Central America, etc. which has a total population of approximately 400 million people who speak Spanish. When we directed our attention on propagating the message of Islam in Spain, a very sincere Ahmadi member in Guatemala, David Sahib, who is among the pioneer Ahmadis of Guatemala, said that Spain only has a population of 40 million, whereas the Spanish speaking population in the countries of his region is 400 million but no attention is paid there. Thereafter, we began to focus on our missions established there and also began appointing some of the students of Jamia. Now by the grace of God Almighty, the Jamaat is being established there. Nonetheless, The Review of Religions Spanish edition was also launched there. These were the sentiments of nonAhmadi guests, however many Spanishspeaking Ahmadi Muslims from the neighbouring countries of Guatemala were also present at the inauguration of the Nasir Hospital and also to meet me. They also expressed their very heartfelt emotions. For some of them it was the first time they had the opportunity to meet the Khalifa of the
time and their deep love for Khilafat was manifesting from their eyes and hearts. A lady from Mexico, Laura Matilde Sahiba, who recently converted to Ahmadiyyat said, “One thing that has become deeply rooted in my heart after travelling to Guatemala is that I am exactly where God Almighty desires for us to be. There is not a shadow of a doubt in my heart that I am experiencing such peace and contentment, both spiritually and emotionally. Meeting my Ahmadi brothers and sisters from neighbouring countries has revived my faith and especially after offering prayers behind the Khalifa of the time has further strengthened my faith in God Almighty and Ahmadiyyat, the true Islam. It is my desire to stay in this path, may God Almighty enable this to happen.” Another recent convert from Mexico, Ivan Francisco Sahib, said, “We performed the Bai‘at at the hand of the Khalifa of the time (a Bai‘at ceremony was held at the mosque) and that moment was indescribable. At that moment, I felt my entire body had become hot and I began sweating. I also felt as if a current was running through my body and while passing through, it took away all my sins with it. I am ever grateful to God Almighty for granting us the institution of Khilafat. I am certain that this was the first step towards something good and will bring about a transformation within me.” Another new convert from Mexico, Miguel Angel Sahib, said, “The fact of the matter is that there exist no borders or lines of distinction in Ahmadiyyat which can separate us. We are all brothers and if there is any difference then it is merely our languages, otherwise we are all brothers. Whilst offering the prayers behind the Khalifa of the time, even though we belonged to 10 to 15 different countries, however we were one and were praying behind one Khalifa.” Then, Vicente Briones Sahib states, “I belong to the Jamaat in Mexico City. I was extremely happy when I learnt that I was being given the opportunity to travel to Guatemala. My happiness increased even more when I was informed that we would have the opportunity to meet the Khalifa of the time. I was extremely delighted when we were granted audience with the Khalifa as I had the opportunity to sit with him for a long time. I only recently did the Bai‘at in Mexico City, however to do the Bai‘at at the hand [of the Khalifa] is a particular moment in my life which I cannot describe in words.” He further said, “Wiping away the tears from my eyes, I said to myself that this was the most beautiful day of my life.” A recent convert from Honduras, Rosa Delmi Sahiba, said, “This was my first ever opportunity to travel outside of my country and we had to undertake such a long journey. It took us 16 hours to reach Guatemala from Honduras. Although we had to endure great difficulties during the journey but as soon as we saw the mosque of the Jamaat and the Khalifa of the time, we completely forgot about any difficulty we had experienced. We had the opportunity to meet such loving and pleasant members of the Jamaat, who treated me like their own family member. An Ahmadi lady who had travelled from the USA said that I was like her own daughter. The best part of the entire journey was the opportunity to meet the Khalifa. I personally did not say
anything as I felt as if I was in a completely different world. I just felt like sitting there and continue listening. It was an experience that one cannot describe. During this tour, I increased my knowledge about the teachings of Jamaat and we also had the opportunity to recite a poem.” Then, Edwin Armando Sahib from Honduras said, “The best part of the tour was the opportunity to meet the Khalifa and I was also able to receive the answers to many of the questions I had.” Another new convert from Ecuador said, “By being in the presence of the Khalifa of the time, I have attained a unique treasure and I am filled with spirituality, peace, happiness, delight and I am at peace. When you placed your blessed hand over mine during the Bai‘at, it was something that I have never experienced before.” A Lajna member from Ecuador, who accepted Ahmadiyyat last year, said, “My tour of Guatemala was an extremely pleasant experience for me and my son. It was a truly special occasion when we saw the Khalifa for the first time because it created a feeling of peace, love and steadfastness within us. During the mulaqat [audience] when the Khalifa of the time embraced my son, we were extremely happy and consider this to be a source of great fortune and blessing for us. The journey back to Ecuador will be very sad for us because we will dearly miss our Ahmadi brothers and the Khalifa of the time and we hope one day to meet again.” A recent convert from Guatemala, Soliman Rodrigez Sahib said, “It is our great fortune that the Khalifatul Masih has come to Guatemala. It is a blessing of God Almighty that you have travelled here. When we learnt that you will be coming to Guatemala, we could not contain our joy and I began to grow spiritually stronger and there is no doubt in the fact that I have experienced a great change within me.” Another new convert from Guatemala, Lisa Pinto Sahiba, said, “I am thankful to God Almighty that the Khalifatul Masih came to Guatemala. It is a source of great pride and honour for me and it has been an extraordinary experience. My heart is filled with joy.” Another member from Guatemala, Domingo Tiul Sahib, said, “I am part of the Cabun Jamaat. Having witnessed Khalifatul Masih among us has greatly increased me in my spirituality and my faith. I am extremely happy that I had the chance to spend time in the company of the Khalifa.” He only converted to Ahmadiyyat recently, but he said to me in a very passionate manner that he was from a far-off village which was near the border, and that the area he belonged to was extremely underprivileged. He requested for prayers and also to send some people there so that the people of his area could also accept Ahmadiyyat and so that they can also receive the blessings of God Almighty that he had received through Ahmadiyyat. He made this request in a very heartfelt manner and also prayed for this. May God Almighty enable the Jamaat to spread to this area as well. Another member from Guatemala, Marteza Tiul Sahiba, said, “Previously I had only seen pictures of the Khalifa, and now I have the opportunity to see him from close. I can feel a positive change within me.” Claudia Sahiba said, “I am very happy and consider myself to be extremely

Friday 14 December 2018 | AL HAKAM fortunate for the blessings of God Almighty. I do not have the words in which I can express my sentiments. I requested prayers to increase in my sincerity and loyalty.” Khadijah Sahiba from Chiapas, Mexico, said, “I render thanks to God Almighty that He enabled me the opportunity to meet with Khalifatul Masih. I received the answers to all my questions. My love for Islam has increased and after performing the Bai‘at, I feel that my faith has been revived. I request prayers for myself and my entire Jamaat that may we increase in our faith and cognisance of God.” Yasmin Gomez Sahiba said, “These are beautiful memories and a beautiful experience. My emotions were such that I began to cry with joy and cannot express this in words. After this meeting I will have the opportunity to bring positive changes in my life.” Surayya Gomez Sahiba said, “My emotions were from the bottom of my heart and I have experienced something magnificent. May God Almighty increase me in my faith and sincerity.” A new convert from Mexico, Jesus Sahib said, “To form a connection with the Jamaat is a great blessing. I am truly fortunate that God Almighty heard my supplications. [Before this] I was in darkness; God Almighty brought me and my family towards the light and enabled me to transform my life. I also asked questions about worship and other topics, and the answers I received gave me a lot of comfort.” Lailah Lateef Sahiba said, “Previously my only experience was through the television, now that I have had the chance to meet [Huzoor], my emotions and sentiments are completely different.” Heliodoro Sahib, who is from Panama and came with his wife and daughter, said, “The meeting [with Huzoor] was a day full of joy, which I am unable to express in words.” He also exhibited great love and sincerity. A delegation had also come from Continued from page 12
the name of Islam. So, we should use the same type of weapon, that is literature and the pen.” The journalist asked about persecution of Ahmadis and what action Huzooraa thought Western countries should take to protect Ahmadis and against those countries who persecute Ahmadi Muslims. Huzoor replied, “We are happy that they are doing what they can to protect in their capacity; we do not call for boycotts or stop aid to countries that persecute. I do not believe that Western nations should stop their financial aid because if they do this, then the poor people of those countries will suffer. And we do not want to take revenge in this way, that humanity suffers in any way.” To conclude the interview, Ewout Klei requested for a final message for his Muslim Turkish readers. Huzoor said: “Nowadays the world is heading towards a big chaos and anytime a world war can erupt, so we should play our role to bring peace in society and honour each other’s sentiments and emotions; respect each other.”
Belize. Golda Martina Sahiba said, “This was a truly heart-warming and blessed occasion. I was overcome with emotion and I will never be able to forget this trip.” Then another member, Nicole Avilez Sahiba said, “It was a very emotional meeting. The Khalifa also extended me an invitation to attend the Jalsa Salana UK and I am very grateful for this.” Another Lajna member, Florentina Sahiba said, “The meeting [with Huzoor] was a truly joyous occasion and my heart is now content.” A young girl who was approximately 13 or 14 said, “Initially I was apprehensive of the fact that I may say something in the presence of the Khalifa that would make me feel embarrassed, however, the meeting was excellent.” They have the utmost respect and reverence for the institution of Khilafat. Then these girls also sang the poem, Hai Daste Qibla Numa. Similarly, there were many other men and women who had travelled great distances all across Guatemala and showed great sincerity and loyalty. May God Almighty enable them all to increase in their loyalty and sincerity; and make them true Ahmadis. In terms of the media coverage, by the grace of God Almighty, the USA [Jamaat] media team worked hard in this regard and had made good contacts. Although at present, certain changes have been made in the media team, however, the previous team also worked well. In the USA, our message reached more than 2.869 million people through television. Through radio coverage, our message reached more than 5.398 million people. Through digital platforms; websites and social media, the coverage reached approximately 2 million people. In terms of newspaper coverage, 45 articles were written about my visit. The prominent newspapers were: The Baltimore Sun, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Religion News Service and Houston Chronicles. Through all these means, it is said that our message reached more than 10 million people.
There was good media coverage in Guatemala as well. The national newspaper of Guatemala, Prensa Libre prints 130,000 copies on a daily basis and this is read by more than 4 million people. On 24 October, this newspaper published a picture of the Nasir Hospital on its front page and also published a report about its opening. A journalist for another national newspaper, El Periodico, also published a report about the opening of the Nasir Hospital. Guatemala National Television also broadcast a report about my visit and information about the Nasir Hospital. Various national radio channels also aired various reports about this. It is estimated that across the countries in Latin America, through the various newspaper reports, print media and television channels, the message of Islam reached approximately 32 million people through the opening of the Nasir Hospital, and also the social media coverage through different platforms; Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, reached approximately 2.3 million people. By the grace of God Almighty, the trip overall was very blessed and successful. May God Almighty enable us to enjoy the pious objectives of this trip in the future as well. After the prayers I will lead the funeral prayer in absentia of Mr Sawadogo Ismail Sahib of Burkina Faso. On 14 November, he was walking to the mosque for the Fajr prayers when he collapsed after suffering a heart attack. He was taken to a nearby hospital but they were unable to revive him – To Allah we belong and to Him shall we return. He was born in 1964 and accepted Ahmadiyyat in 1994. It was always his desire to live near the mission house. When our mission was moved to another place, he rented a house near the new mission house. He would always come to the mosque and call the Azan [Muslim call to prayer]. During the Jalsa Salana, he would always wake up the attendees for Tahajjud prayers. He would call the Azan in a beautiful
manner and for this reason people gave him the title “Syedna Bilal”. He would sit in E‘tikaf [retreat to the mosque in the last 10 days of Ramadan] every Ramadan. He was very regular in his prayers and would remind others to do the same. Prior to Fajr prayers, he would go to wake up the students living in the Jamaat Hostel nearby, he would then call the Azan and would ensure the mosque was clean. When our mosques were attacked in Lahore and he heard that people had been martyred, it had a profound effect on him. He repeatedly expressed his desire that if only he was martyred alongside them. He was always at the forefront in serving the community. When I went there [Burkina Faso] for a visit in 2004, he worked as part of the security team. On one occasion whilst I was delivering a speech he collapsed while he was on duty. Perhaps this was due to a lack of food or that he was standing in one place for a long time, nevertheless, he would always write to me saying that he was the one who fell down. He was very sincere and a true devotee of Khilafat and Ahmadiyyat. He worked as a security guard for the Forestry Department. During his burial, on behalf of the Central Mayor, the Commanding Officer for the Forestry Department highlighted Ismail Sahib’s services in a befitting manner saying that he was very sincere, loyal, honest and a cheerful individual, who always fulfilled his responsibilities in the best manner possible. By the grace of God Almighty he was a musi [partook in the scheme of Wasiyyat]. From his first wife he is survived by one son and one daughter. He also has a two-month old daughter from his second marriage. May God Almighty elevate the status of the deceased and grant him His forgiveness. May God Almighty grant protection to his children. Interview with Hazrat Khalifatul Masih For Muslim Turkish Readers
It is not that we have made our own type of Islam. This was foretold by the Prophet of Islam that in the latter days a person will come to revive the teachings of Islam because after a long period of time there will be a dark era within Islamic sects. People will forget the true interpretation of the Holy Quran and its teachings.

O
n Sunday 25 November, awardwinning Dutch Journalist, Ewout Klei, was given the opportunity for an exclusive interview with Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih Vaa for the national weekly newspaper De Kanttekening. After attending the Peace Symposium held in London earlier this year, Ewout Klei said that he was inspired to show the beliefs of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat to his Muslim Turkish readers. The interview covered a wide range of topics including the prophethood of the Promised Messiahas, blasphemy laws, world peace, Jihad and the crucifixion of Jesusas. The Dutch journalist asked why Ahmadi Muslims opposed the mainstream Muslim view that a prophet cannot come after the Holy Prophetsa whilst also believing Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas to be a prophet. Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa responded by saying: “It is not that we have made our own type of Islam. This was foretold by the Prophet of Islam that in the latter days, a person will come to revive the teachings of Islam because after a long period of time there will be a dark era within Islamic sects. People will forget the true interpretation of the Holy Quran and its teachings.” Further expounding on the question, Huzooras said, “We believe that the person who was to come, according to the prophecy of the Holy Prophetsa of Islam, has come in the person of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas of Qadian and he has both the titles of Messiah and Mahdi.” Huzooraa elaborated on the heavenly signs which were foretold by the Holy Prophetsa that were to occur at the advent
of the Messiah in the latter days. Huzooraa said that according to a prophecy by the Holy Prophetsa, when the Messiah would come, there would be solar and lunar eclipses in the month of Ramadan. Thus accordingly, there were eclipses in the Eastern Hemisphere in 1894 and in the Western Hemisphere in 1895. Other signs such as technological advancements, improvement of transportation and the establishment of the printing press were highlighted by Huzooraa. The journalist, who writes for De Kanttekening newspaper asked, “How does your community respond to blasphemy?” Huzooraa responded by saying, “According to the teachings of Islam, there is no punishment for blasphemy.” Proof from the lifetime of the Holy Prophetsa was then cited by Huzooraa to prove that blasphemy was not punished at the dawn of Islam. Huzooraa said, “Neither was it practiced by the prophet of Islam nor by his four rightly guided Khulafa.” Further, Huzooraa explained, “These present-day Muslims have concocted just to fulfill their own desires. Their mentality is such that they are interpreting Jihad in the wrong way.” When asked about whether he thought the blasphemy laws in Pakistan would eventually be repealed, Huzooraa responded by saying, “No, it will remain. The blasphemy law should be there to protect all prophets and all leaders, to create and develop an atmosphere of peace, love and harmony. Nobody should speak ill of any other leader of a community or religion.” Explaining the concept of Jihad, Huzooraa presented the Quran’s philosophy of permission of retaliation by the sword against enemies saying,
“It was to save religion, not only Islam.” Further Huzooraa said, “The Quran has categorically said that you should not kill a person without a particular or genuine reason”, and that “the killing of one person is equal to killing the whole of humanity.” Ewout Klei discussed the current condition of the world and asked Huzooraa, “You, as a Caliph, have a mission of Peace, but how do you stay optimistic in a world full of suffering and pain?” Huzooraa responded by stressing on why peace had diminished, highlighting the fact that “because of forgetting religious teachings people are not discharging their duties towards their fellow beings. Every person has their own vested interests. This is why you see the disturbance, cruelty and brutalities that are being committed everywhere – just to have their own vested interests.” Huzooraa eloquently explained how religion was the answer to world peace by saying: “Being a missionary community, we believe that religion has the potential and true religious teachings have the potential to create and develop peace in society. The reformer of the age, the founder of the Ahmadiyya community has taught us that if you follow the true teachings of Islam and spread the true message of Islam, then you can create and develop peace.” Underlining his optimism with regard to world peace, Huzooraa explained to the journalist how the founder of the community prophesied that within three hundred years, the majority of the world would realise that Ahmadiyyat is the truth. Huzooraa said, “In the next hundred years you will see that the majority of people will realise it. If they do not, then
they will face the wrath of Allah.” Ewout Klei enquired about the Ahmadiyya belief of Jesusas surviving the crucifixion – a view that was new to him. Huzooraa presented the Ahmadiyya belief of Jesusas travelling to India after surviving the cross whilst informing the Dutch journalist about the book of the Promised Messiahas, Jesus in India. Huzooraa explained how this view was now prevalent amongst academics saying, “This concept is now not only amongst Ahmadis, there are quite a number of nonMuslim scholars, those who have written books on this, that Jesus did not die on the cross, rather survived and migrated to another place.” The topic of Jihad was also raised and the Quran’s verses which give permission to wage war were discussed. Huzooraa explained by saying, “The Quran says that if they are waging war against you, then you can wage war, but the Quran also says that whenever they [the enemy] extend the hand of peace, you must accept it.” Further, Huzooraa said, “If anyone extents the hand of peace and reconciliation then you must accept it. The Quran only says that you are permitted to retaliate, but with some conditions. At the same time, it also says that if you behave cowardly, then you will be punished. Once a war is waged on you then you use a firm hand on your enemies.” Talking about the change in circumstances and the nature of today’s Jihad, Huzooraa said, “The interpretation of the Ahmadiyya community is that in the early part of Islam, the enemy used to use swords against Muslims. Now they are using literature and other media to spoil Continued on page 11
