The Chili Cook-Off is an annual event hosted by Inland Valley Recovery Services, was held at Upland City Hall this year. The Upland Foothill Kiwanians are avid supporters of the Chili Cook-Off, at the event there is all-you-can-eat BBQ, chili contests, live and silent auctions, and live band performances. The event was created to raise awareness on drug/alcohol abuse, where all proceeds went to the Inland Valley Recovery Services' Job Development Program. Clubbers were able to help at this Chili Cook-Off by passing out food to attendees so that donors further considered granting greater offerings toward this cause for the bettering of our community.
Independence Day was celebrated at Upland High, where guests would enjoy the Fourth of July by eating food, playing games (there were even jump houses!), and view the fireworks show. With all the festivities of the event, Key Clubbers from Alta Loma and Upland High School were able to volunteer in various positions to attend the needs of guests. Clubbers were effective in handling food, where some aided at the snack bar, popcorn stand, and shaved ice machine. There was also a grill where hot dogs and burgers were cooked. Although clubbers were hard at work to help out, they also enjoyed viewing the firework show while on their shift.
Concerts in the Park at Magnolia Park in Upland is an event where families from the community can gather to watch live band performances, accompanied by a movie. The community is also given the option to purchase food from the Co-Sponsored Kiwanis Snack Bar. At this event, Clubbers were able to aid the public by preparing and serving food, such as hot dogs, snowcones, pizza, nachos, etc., as well as helping out in the games booth. Gatherings similar to Concerts in the Park are essential because they allow all to come to a destination where they can unite as one and to allow us to forget troubles occurring in the world as we see in various parts of the world. The event also promotes inclusiveness, one of Key Club’s core values, just by hosting for people from various cities and just by allowing ALHS to volunteer, as this is originally an Upland event.
