Hello Alta Loma Key Clubbers! This past month has been a very busy but productive month. We were able to raise over $200 from our “Pie in the Face event and food fair! It would not have been possible without all of your support and participation. Fall Rally is slowly approaching and I hope you can all try to attend the fun and exciting district-wide event. You will be able to experience the incredible amount of spirit shown by Key Clubbers all over Cal-Nev-Ha. Our club is starting off very strong and keep up the attendance during our weekly meetings!

Alta Loma Key Club has been trying to implement service events into every other meeting held so that those who may not be able to attend outside-of-school events may still receive opportunities to help in their community. In this event, Key Clubbers were asked to create greeting cards for either a child in the hospital containing messages such as “get well soon, a senior citizen who may be lonely, or a teacher appreciation card. The event was a success, as our club collected roughly 40 cards. The cards made during the event was later distributed to the San Antonio Regional Hospital, Upland Rehabilitation & Care Center, and to the teachers of Alta Loma.

As inspired by the previous August DCM, Alta Loma similarly created dog toys during one of the meetings held during the month of September. Members were asked to bring and donate shirts in order for this event to occur and surely enough, more than 30 shirts were distributed amongst the club to make dog toys.

After receiving instructions on how to create the dog toys out of the shirts, members got to work, creating a total of more than 50 toys at the end of the meeting. Although dog toys were fun to make, one of our members injured himself by accidentally stabbing his finger with scissors whilst cutting up the shirt. We’ll take this as a learning experience to be more careful when dealing with scissors!

• provide grants to our partner hospitals, enabling them to create or expand community outreach programs; • provide grants to Kiwanis and SLP clubs, enabling them to help more children in more communities; and • you provide PTP safety items, which are available for purchase by our Kiwanis family at a subsidized cost.

Food for Fridays was a very meaningful event where we helped collect and package food items for the underprivileged children of Citrus Elementary. We helped set up, move things around, and greet people. We were also able to bond with people through the various games that were offered. In the teen center, we received inspirational and motivational personal stories that were very impactful. A total of 8 members attended the event from Alta Loma, which was surprising since our school’s homecoming dance was the night before, guess the passion for service never sleeps!

Overall, it was a great experience because we learned a lot about being positive and how it’s important to move forward and cherish the things in life.

-VODI TBDLT NFBMT PO XIFFMT Meals on Wheels is a non-profit and community powered organization that provides senior citizens with nutritious meals at their door steps! The program consists not only of a meal, but a friendly visit by whoever chooses to participate in distributing the meals, as well as a safety check-up. Alta Loma Key Club decorated the lunch bags that these meals will be placed into in this service event. Just like the greeting cards, many of the Key Clubbers added sweet and heart-warming notes to the elderly on the bags. Meanwhile, others decorated the bags with cute drawings and designs; many had drawings of giraffes on them! Although the service project was very quick, the club made plenty of decorated lunch sacks sacks total that will be of great use to the Meals on Wheels program.
