As the second month of school closes upon us, I would like to congratulate you on staying strong thus far! Within the first few weeks of the new term for the club, I have already created friendships with some new faces and am VERY thankful that you have all taken an interest into Key Club. Your presence at the meetings never fails to place a smile on my face. I hope that you all continue to be active within the club by attending socials, volunteer events, and weekly meetings. Thank you for everything so far and I hope you have a BEE-utiful day (our district mascot is the bee)!

Assuming that many of you that are currently reading this are new and signed up on this day: THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AT CLUB RUSH! It was a pleasure to see so many of you interested in Key Club. During both lunches out in the quad, we displayed some of our informational and persuasive posters (a BIG thanks to Ryma Swing, Caitlyn Diaz, and Regina Tambunan for helping with the cute posters). Some of our club officers were also walking around the main portion of the quad and cafeteria with the posters to raise awareness on club recruitment. Club Rush was a success, with a sign-up of over180 students! Don’t forget to sign-up on our “Remind” class (text “@alhskc” to 81010) to stay informed on our weekly meetings and reminders on upcoming events.

09.6.16 What a lovely crowd of people! Thank you to all who attended our first meeting (sorry for the disorganization and technical difficulties!). The first meeting was a success with an attendance that was easily over 80 people. The meeting first started with an ice breaker (a tactic/way for people to get to know others better) of rock-paper-scissors, where one would find a partner to play against and whoever won would then “join the winner’s team and continue to cheer them on and so forth. It was a pleasure to see attendees meeting new faces while spreading positivity to their “leader. Following, the meeting continued with a brief overview of what Key Club is and what members do. Concluding, attendees were awarded with candy or otter pops for their interest in the organization.

09.14.16 During the Club’s second General Meeting, clubbers worked on creating cards for children at the San Antonio Hospital in Upland, California. While enjoying the great outdoors, clubbers created cards to spread love to the children who are less fortunate than us and are stuck indoors. Inside the cards, cute and positive messages were included, as well as creative drawings and decorations. Overall, we finished an hour’s worth of community service and completed over 40 cards!

09.17.16 Karaoke Night was hosted at the Teen Center, where clubbers from both Alta Loma and Upland came to raise club funds. At Karaoke Night, clubbers signed up to sing to them lyrics projected onto the screen. The songs sung through the night were either recited passionately or terribly sung for comedic relief. Singing our lungs out wasn’t the only thing that occurred: there was also a magician from Canada! Overall, the event was a success due to attendance of members (LIKE YOU)!

Thank you to our ofiicer board for aiding in making the chocolate dipped churros! We would not have raised as much money at the Night Market without your persistence and patience. Another thanks to the DLT (Division Leadership Team) for organizing the event that would not have happened without you guys! Lastly, on behalf of the entire club, thank you Mrs. Miller for agreeing to be our last-minute advisor for the night. The officer board truly wouldn’t have even been holding a booth, let alone a successful one, if we did not have your guidance. If you see Mrs. Miller around on campus, PLEASE be sure to thank her for all that she had done for us on Friday! 09.23.16 After the September Division Council Meeting (DCM), where clubbers participated in ice breakers and our club was awarded with #3 in “Swag Points” (again!), the night market ensued! Clubs held booths to sell items of food to merchandise n order to raise funds for their individual clubs or for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Our club sold chocolate dipped churros that were supposed to look like giraffes. Other stands included, boba, giraffe ear headbands, popcorn, nachos, chick-fil-a, and so much more. Like the “626 Night Market,” a section was set aside for performances where clubbers volunteered to sing, dance, rap, etc. Thank you to all who came to the DCM, it was a great to see you all.
