A CHURCH
CARING & SHARING
achurchsalida@gmail.com AChurchSalida.org A Church at 419 D Street provides space for nonprofits to gather, forges community connection via game nights, and creates a niche for Salida’s young people to hang out and make music. Founders Sheree and Kurt Beddingfield incorporated Kurt’s eye for historical restoration into the preservation of this unique building. Since its inception in 2018, A Church has become a cornerstone in Salida for live music, theater and celebrations in the downtown. As Sheree reflects, “Time spent face to face, having fun, celebrating, mourning, and supporting youth, elders and artists makes ‘community’ different from ‘population’. It’s through these personal interactions that community itself becomes woven into our being.”
(719) 539-3686 SalidaCaringSharing.org Since the early 1970’s, Caring and Sharing has been spreading love in Salida and the surrounding communities. Helen Nachtrieb initially opened it as a volunteer-run thrift store, aptly named “God’s Closet.” Storing items until they were needed by the local community, and then given away free or for a small donation. Today Caring & Sharing Resource Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, providing the local and transient community with food, clothing, gas money and assistance with utilities and rent or mortgage payments. The building at 220 W Fourth Street is also home to the Valley to Valley Senior Care Center, Chaffee Community Resource Center, and the Caring & Sharing Soup Kitchen. The support of the local community is what allows Caring & Sharing board members to continue their mission.
