Colectivo Warehouse summer school 8
The project takes place in the heart of Lisbon, in Mouraria district. The purpose of the summer school is to open the Centro de inovação da Mouraria to the inhabitants of the district. The main aim is to tell the story of the communities that from years settled here: from the stairs that go down from Igreja da Graça till the CIM, the temporary installation 9
the temporary installation suggests to follow the path till the patio.
The secret garden concealed by the wall leave space to curiosity and imagination to visitors. Now, the furnitures designed for the patio create a cozy space for cim residents and inhabitants of Mouraria. As a poem of 3 acts, the project finds its way far away on the stairs and it opens reflection about barriers in the contemporary city and new common spaces.

While the crisis was afflicting the country, new fashion local brands arose. Due to the textile production history of the city, young designers and international brands found in Porto a “fertile soil where to settle and experiment thanks to the innovative technologies of production and low production cost. The project reflects the purpose to bring a new space take

for the local community. Starting from the strengths of the city and the ones in which Porto should bet, the program tries to join the industrial identity with the new creative fields of the city. The project consists of reflections concerning the role of voids and the city, in particular, the peripheral city, precarious from the urban and social point of view. These concepts translate into an architectural project that finds its roots in the history of its territory. Using the notions of fragmentation, absence, memory and identity, we highlight the relationship between them within the city, being fundamental for the understanding of the place. From the programmatic choice for the enhancement of the local economic and cultural heritage to the strategic choices measured with the substantial identity of the area, the project crosses the history of the place, keeping clear the boundary between what belongs to the memory and the new elements that are going to be inserted. The intervention, therefore, aims to translate the issues addressed in an indissoluble relationship between theory and practice.

The existing architecture becomes the scenography of the fashion shows or exhibitions: the arches act as the architectural backdrop to the works, surrounded by light curtains that structure the complexity of the space. The old slaughterhouse, being a central point for the connection between the city and the periphery, becomes a space for people, open to the citizens. 22

Saluti da Favygnana is a manifesto against the theme of the Contemporary Museum in the Island of Favignana. The island is already suffering the tourist gentrification and it is becoming more and more expensive and different from its roots. The location and the accessibility don’t give any possibility to the Museum to become the main Mediterranean Art centre. So, In front of that problem and take

the refugees one, we decide to focus our project on another theme. Art and culture are for everyone, it is not about luxury and richness, it’s about people. Favignana’s Refugees Luxury Hotel Mediterranean contemporary culture center 1. Welcome to a peculiar experience that depics the truly essence of contemporary Mediterranean: the Favignana’s Refugees Luxury Hotel. Dive into the cultural diversity that fluorish and enrich the basin, in a thrilling experience of overcrowded loneliness, forced exile, institutional inconsideration and rhetorical violence. 2. We offer an immersive experience to collectors adn enthusiasts. They will have the chance to live an unforgettable stay in the facility, according to one’s own sensitiveness in order to enjoy deprivation, survival kits and uncomfortable routes. 3. The long walkway acceding the Favignana’s Refugees Luxury Hotel consists of an “open air camping gallery”. It is a steep q,5km route where to enjoy tents, tents and more tents.
26
4. Reach the shore through a breathtaking and unpleasant journey on rubber dinghies offered by our traffickers. Boats may be overbooked and may not reach the destination. 5. The Favignana’s Refugees Luxury Hotel will guarantee a limited number of 30000-50000 suites equipped with every discomfort in order to meet the standards of the wealthiest and most demanding visitors. This place will also NOT ensure an access with the helicopter, as there is no available parking for such a lavish stupidity. 6. The new volumes of the camping tents, the hammocks and the sleeping bags are inserted in respect of the existing building, in particular: do not compromise or damage the existing facilities, do not exceed 4 meters in height and guarantee a design which is in harmony with th architecture and the surrounding landscape. 7. The intervention’s materials are light, dystonic, high-tech and transportable, easily mounted through engaging processes of autoconstruction, for a participative dwelling experience. Munchie is an hamburger’s restaurant located in the downtown of Porto. The project gives a new image to the existent space: according with the idea of the healthy hamburger, the interiors reflect clear and light views thanks to the tiles which outline the different spaces in the restaurant. The different use of the tiles outlines the functions and the furnitures, which take

are thought as architectural forms.
In the way to minimize the sensation of a long continuous space, we used the tiles on the wall and on the floors as a perspective element. We tried to create the idea of a “box divided in two half: the first one defines the area of the tender bar, the second one follows the hallway trough the other rooms. Pink elements are dedicated to all the eating areas, like the furnitures and dining rooms; green tiles define the services parts as the hallway and the staff areas in a continuity between the different rooms of the restaurant. The patio concept follows the idea of pic-nic tables, fixed on the floor and covered by tiles. Due to the small area, each table is for two-three people maximum. For the sunny days, or to protect from rain, a metal structure protect the patio with a movable curtain. The pink painting designs the limit with the circulation axe. The dining room takes light from the central patio. Every step defines dining areas with 2, 4 and 6 people tables. The furnitures are shaped as architectural forms, coming out from the walls.

parts as Piece out our imperfections with your thoughts, Into a thousand parts divide on man, And make imaginary puissance; The area of the ex Hospital Misericordia, in Prato (Italy), in five years will become a building area, which will leave space for the new urban park of the city. The area is huge: 32000 square meters of park and 7000m2 for residences and services involved into the future park. For that reason it was necessary to analyse the best way to de-construct the area and guarantee the accesses during the five years needed for the end of the building site. The main strategy was to choose a type of controlled demolition with hydraulic pliers: the de-construction starts from the last floors dividing the supporting structure from the buffer walls. In this way, the site is available from the first years to the citizens, with a temporary program. This kind of demolition also allow to save parts of the ancient building, in order to re-cycle. What’s next demolition? One of the proposals is an utopian park, inspired by Campo Marzio of Piranesi: a reflection about the space in relation of architecture. The result is an architectural thematic park, where the different heights and sizes of the architectures create a silent atmosphere. The de51
contextualized architectures were needed to complain the importance of space identity and the aesthetic consequences that can arise. The chosen architectures are the ones of Brazilian modern and contemporary movement, totally different from the Italian context.
