Gutted to be out of the Vase for another year, especially when the prize for the next round was a plum tie at home to Morpeth. Sometimes it’s more than just the financial loss that hurts, as it’s nice to have the derby every so often. Maybe the Senior Cup will give us the plum draw. Special mention to Callum Brooks, Josh Willis and Josh Briggs on Tuesday night. All 3 of them 17 years old and didn’t look out of place at all, and will only get better with experience at this level. As many have been saying to me in recent weeks, keep the faith! Cheers, Cookie

1 cup gone but 3 more to come... The lads just fell short towards the end and with 12 players either injured, at work or on holiday, it left us with 12 fully fit available, but nevertheless we were in control for most of the game. We go again today v Birtley Town and it's a good chance to bounce back, play well and put 3 points on the board. We welcome Brad McClelland back after a month out injured but still have Nathan, Danny, Lee, Tony, Jordi and Gairza out for at least 2 more weeks. We have shown we are progressing well but need time out from games to get back on training ground and work on a few things. Enjoy today's game . Jon

Club History
Alnwick Town Association Football Club was formed in 1879, and was then known as Alnwick United Services. The club was the only Association Football side between Dunbar and Newcastle. It is believed that the club played in red shirts with thin black hoops, black shorts and black socks. In 1900 the club moved to our current home, St James’ Park. The club’s name was also changed, to Alnwick United Juniors. Between this time and the beginning of the First World War, the name changed between United and Town on several occasions, and also a brief spell as Alnwick St James’s. The club competed in the North Northumberland League until 1923, moving to the East Northumberland League until 1936. The club was then renamed Alnwick Town, and would compete in the Northern Alliance until 1982, apart from 1 season in the Durham Central League in 1964-65. The 60’s and early 70’s were Alnwick Town’s golden years, winning the Northern Alliance on 7 occasions and a league and cup double 5 times. In 1982-83, Alnwick Town were admitted into the newly formed Northern League Division 2. In the 1988/89 season the club finished runners-up and were promoted to the 1st Division, the highest tier of the football pyramid they have played in to date. The club also elected the league’s first female chairman, Judith Draycott. Relegation from the Northern League 1st Division followed after 2 seasons in 1990/91. The club remained in the Northern League 2nd Division until the 2006-07 season, when failing to meet ground criteria and lack of funds resulted in relegation back to the Northern Alliance. A change in chairman, committee and management saved the club from extinction, and with the club spending 4 seasons in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, they were promoted back to the Northern League for the 2011-12 season. Whilst in the Alliance, the club won the Senior Benevolent Bowl and the Pinpoint Recruitment Cup. The club were also awarded F.A Charter Standard for the first time in their history.
Club History
The club now faces its 5th straight season in the Northern League, looking to build on the 2014-15 season points total of 50, their highest since returning from the Northern Alliance. But it was almost a different story. The 2012-13 season saw the club complete the ‘Great Escape’ on the final day of the season, which was also the club’s 1000th game in the Northern League. A 5-2 victory at St James’ Park against Washington secured Northern League status for the club. Jon Colley scored a hat-trick to complete a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the club. The 2014-15 season saw the club reach the 2nd Round of the F.A Vase for the first time since the 1975-76 season. Sadly, a 4-5 defeat at home to St Helens Town in extra time ended the Wembley dream for another year. In 2015-16 we look forward to another positive year, with a new management team in place and fresh ideas for the future. Opposition Info
Birtley Town FC reformed in 1993, joining the Wearside League and, at that time, taking their place in the old second division. After just missing out on promotion in their first season for a place in the top flight, Birtley’s second season was to prove more successful. The club won promotion as Champions. On becoming established within Division One Birtley lifted their first major trophy in 1998 by overcoming the newly crowned Champions, Annfield Plain in the League Challenge Cup Final. Four years later the club had a magnificent season in all cup competitions, lifting both the League Challenge Cup and the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup, they narrowly lost out on a cup treble due to being on the wrong end of a penalty shoot-out result against Jarrow in the Sunderland Shipowners Charity Cup Final. This was followed by completing 6 consecutive years in reaching the final of the League Cup. In 2002 the club merged with Birtley ST. Joseph’s Juniors to expand the club and develop a clear progression route from under 7’s through to under 18’s, and develop girls and ladies football. This has proven to be very successful and has enabled the club to be awarded the FA Charter Standard Community Club Award. In the following season of 2003-04 Birtley ended 57 years without a League Championship when they were crowned Wearside League Champions. Unfortunately the League Title was not accompanied by promotion as Birtley’s ground did not meet the standards required by the Northern League. The recently constructed changing facilities, completed in October 2006, together with the addition of floodlighting has enabled Birtley to gain promotion, to the Northern League. We are now able to compete in the FA Cup as well as the FA Vase. The ladies team are also competing in the FA Cup. As ground improvements continue, this will enable the club to look at the future and to continue to progress through the pyramid system.

Report Courtesy of the Northumberland Gazette. Alnwick romped to victory against Birtley Town at St James’ Park this afternoon to record just their second win of the year. In this battle between two teams at the wrong end of the table, it didn’t take Alnwick long to remind Birtley whose ground they were on. Straughan bundled it home just two minutes into the match to give Alnwick an early lead (1-0). On 27 minutes, Alnwick took possession and Lowes volleyed to cross in and Colley rifled home (2-0). In the second half, Birtley put up more of a fight and shortly after the game had recommenced, a penalty saw Alnwick storm to 3-0, Keith Douglas sending the keeper the wrong way. But with 15 minutes left on the clock, Alnwick let their guard down and Birtley scored their first goal of the match reducing the deficit to two goals (3-1). At the start of play, Birtley were 16th with 38 points, with Alnwick two places behind on 33 points but the hosts made sure they closed that gap with just minutes left. Hogg wellied the ball into the back of the net from some distance, making the final score 4-1.
