Hello and welcome to St James’ Park for today’s game against Chester-le-Street Town. To today’s visitors, we hope you enjoy your day and have a safe journey home back down the A1 (without the 3 points!). After a frustrating 2-0 defeat on the opening day away at Darlington RA, we found our shooting boots in the final 10 minutes against Esh Winning to record a solid 4-1 win. Well done to Brad McClelland on the hat-trick, hopefully his first of many for us this season. Thanks to today’s Match Sponsor (Lock-Fix Northumberland), and Ball Sponsor (Jon Stephenson). Appreciate it as always.
Cheers, Cook

The end of the first full week of the season sees us entertain Chester-le-Street in a revised fixture due to the F.A Cup weekend. We come into this game on the back of our first victory, where we played some good stuff and created lots of chances. Brad scoring a hat-trick was nice, but his teammates take the credit for softening up Esh Winning first. 17 year old Callum Brooks showed real promise in goal too. Hopefully we have shown in our first two games potential to finish higher up this season. As long as we believe in our own abilities and our fans keep turning up in such good numbers as they did on Tuesday night. Our reserve side have friendlies both today and Wednesday so we wish them well. Enjoy the game today! Jon

Club History
Alnwick Town Association Football Club was formed in 1879, and was then known as Alnwick United Services. The club was the only Association Football side between Dunbar and Newcastle. It is believed that the club played in red shirts with thin black hoops, black shorts and black socks. In 1900 the club moved to our current home, St James’ Park. The club’s name was also changed, to Alnwick United Juniors. Between this time and the beginning of the First World War, the name changed between United and Town on several occasions, and also a brief spell as Alnwick St James’s. The club competed in the North Northumberland League until 1923, moving to the East Northumberland League until 1936. The club was then renamed Alnwick Town, and would compete in the Northern Alliance until 1982, apart from 1 season in the Durham Central League in 1964-65. The 60’s and early 70’s were Alnwick Town’s golden years, winning the Northern Alliance on 7 occasions and a league and cup double 5 times. In 1982-83, Alnwick Town were admitted into the newly formed Northern League Division 2. In the 1988/89 season the club finished runners-up and were promoted to the 1st Division, the highest tier of the football pyramid they have played in to date. The club also elected the league’s first female chairman, Judith Draycott. Relegation from the Northern League 1st Division followed after 2 seasons in 1990/91. The club remained in the Northern League 2nd Division until the 2006-07 season, when failing to meet ground criteria and lack of funds resulted in relegation back to the Northern Alliance. A change in chairman, committee and management saved the club from extinction, and with the club spending 4 seasons in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, they were promoted back to the Northern League for the 2011-12 season. Whilst in the Alliance, the club won the Senior Benevolent Bowl and the Pinpoint Recruitment Cup. The club were also awarded F.A Charter Standard for the first time in their history.
Club History
The club now faces its 5th straight season in the Northern League, looking to build on the 2014-15 season points total of 50, their highest since returning from the Northern Alliance. But it was almost a different story. The 2012-13 season saw the club complete the ‘Great Escape’ on the final day of the season, which was also the club’s 1000th game in the Northern League. A 5-2 victory at St James’ Park against Washington secured Northern League status for the club. Jon Colley scored a hat-trick to complete a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the club. The 2014-15 season saw the club reach the 2nd Round of the F.A Vase for the first time since the 1975-76 season. Sadly, a 4-5 defeat at home to St Helens Town in extra time ended the Wembley dream for another year. In 2015-16 we look forward to another positive year, with a new management team in place and fresh ideas for the future. Opposition Info
The club was founded in 1972 when a group of enthusiasts got together in a local public house and formed a football team which was called Chester-le-Street Garden Farm after the pub in which the idea germinated. The club entered the Newcastle City Amateur League that same year and played on a pitch in Low Fell because none were available in Chester -le-Street. However, after one season, they were allotted a pitch at the Riverside, Chester-le-Street which was to be their home until 1977. In 1975 the Cestrians joined the Washington League, winning the Championship, the Durham Minor Cup and the Washington Aged Miners Cup. By then flourishing, the team moved to the Sacriston C.W. ground in 1977 and were admitted into the Wearside League. The following years, they changed their name to Chester-le-Street Town Football Club. Over the next few years, the club won the Wearside League title and the Monkwearmouth Cup on two occasions. In 1980 the club moved to what is still its present home at Chester Moor. The old Colliery Welfare Ground only had dressing rooms and a perimeter fence. Over £100,000 was spent bringing the ground up to Northern League standards. A stand seating 160 and covered terracing were built. In recent years, new floodlights have been erected and new dressings rooms were built in 2000. The club was admitted into the Northern League in 1983 and won the Second Division Championship at their first attempt. Their best run in the FA Vase came in 1985 when they reached the Fifth Round only to lose to eventual runners-up Fleetwood Town in a second replay. Since then they have been relegated twice, the last time in 1996-97 and they again won the Second Division Championship the following season. The club is proud to call itself a family club, catering to the needs of the district by providing football for all. They currently run 20 youth teams, Under 23 side plus three ladies teams. The new MUGA was opened in March this year.

Previous Encounter Alnwick Town 0-3 Chester-le-Street Town
On a night dedicated to club legend Clive Burn, Alnwick's usually reliable home form deserted them as Chester-le-Street travelled home with the 3 points. An impeccably observed minute silence was held before the game in front of Clive's family. On a night where the pitch looked fantastic in the evening sunlight, Clive would have been proud. After a couple of early chances for the home side, it was Chester that went in front in the 20th minute. A freekick was lofted in by Craig Marron, and Alnwick keeper Straker lost the flight of the ball, and saw it crawl into the net through his fingertips. Alnwick never really got going in a game with little outcome on league placings come the approaching finish of the season. Few chances followed, and it took until the 80th minute for Chester to all but seal the game. A strike from the edge of the box was parried by Straker into the path of Stephenson to make it 2-0. The game was finished in injury time when Egen brought down a forward in the box. Hepplewhite converted, and secured the 3 points for Chester-le-Street. A poor game overall, especially given the circumstances leading up to the game. Our biggest home crowd of the season saw arguably our poorest performance at home. One game remains to reach 50 points. Following results elsewhere this weekend, Alnwick Town will finish the season in 16th position.
