Have to start today’s programme with a congratulations to Danny Lowes, who made his 100th Northern League start for the club against Easington Colliery last Thursday night. It’s a number that should have been reached sooner, but he’s been unlucky with injuries over the years. I was at Esh Winning in our 1st season back in the Northern League when he was clattered by Shanka and their keeper, and then he got another injury at home to Esh Winning a year later. Ryton make the not too far journey up the A1 today in a mid-table clash with both sides needing to find a good run of results to jump amongst the massive battle for top 10 placings. We come into this game on our worst run of defensive frailties and with the knowledge that we must put it right now. We have proved time after time this season already we are as good as anyone in this league with the exception of South Shields, and maybe Billingham Synthonia, who both are miles away with their resources both on and off the pitch. Our problem is individual mistakes, and 17 out of 29 league goals conceded have been due to this. We have spent this midweek actually not having a game, so we are able to get on the training ground and work on a few things which will hopefully help. Monday night we entertain Newbiggin in a friendly, 7:30pm kick off, no charge. We have built up a nice relationship with Simon, and this game will be useful to both teams. Note - We play Chester-le-Street away on the 24th in the 2nd Division cup, and a free on the 28th of the month. Enjoy today’s game. Jon

Club History



Alnwick Town Association Football Club was formed in 1879, and was then known as Alnwick United Services. The club was the only Association Football side between Dunbar and Newcastle. It is believed that the club played in red shirts with thin black hoops, black shorts and black socks. In 1900 the club moved to our current home, St James’ Park. The club’s name was also changed, to Alnwick United Juniors. Between this time and the beginning of the First World War, the name changed between United and Town on several occasions, and also a brief spell as Alnwick St James’s. The club competed in the North Northumberland League until 1923, moving to the East Northumberland League until 1936. The club was then renamed Alnwick Town, and would compete in the Northern Alliance until 1982, apart from 1 season in the Durham Central League in 1964-65. The 60’s and early 70’s were Alnwick Town’s golden years, winning the Northern Alliance on 7 occasions and a league and cup double 5 times. In 1982-83, Alnwick Town were admitted into the newly formed Northern League Division 2. In the 1988/89 season the club finished runners-up and were promoted to the 1st Division, the highest tier of the football pyramid they have played in to date. The club also elected the league’s first female chairman, Judith Draycott. Relegation from the Northern League 1st Division followed after 2 seasons in 1990/91. The club remained in the Northern League 2nd Division until the 2006-07 season, when failing to meet ground criteria and lack of funds resulted in relegation back to the Northern Alliance. A change in chairman, committee and management saved the club from extinction, and with the club spending 4 seasons in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, they were promoted back to the Northern League for the 2011-12 season. Whilst in the Alliance, the club won the Senior Benevolent Bowl and the Pinpoint Recruitment Cup. The club were also awarded F.A Charter Standard for the first time in their history.



Club History

The club now faces its 5th straight season in the Northern League, looking to build on the 2014-15 season points total of 50, their highest since returning from the Northern Alliance. But it was almost a different story. The 2012-13 season saw the club complete the ‘Great Escape’ on the final day of the season, which was also the club’s 1000th game in the Northern League. A 5-2 victory at St James’ Park against Washington secured Northern League status for the club. Jon Colley scored a hat-trick to complete a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the club. The 2014-15 season saw the club reach the 2nd Round of the F.A Vase for the first time since the 1975-76 season. Sadly, a 4-5 defeat at home to St Helens Town in extra time ended the Wembley dream for another year. In 2015-16 we look forward to another positive year, with a new management team in place and fresh ideas for the future. THE ALBION – A BRIEF HISTORY Shortly after the start of the 1970 - 71 football season John Oliver, the club’s first Secretary, and Les Robson were approached to see if a club could be formed quickly to take over the fixtures of Prudhoe and West Wylam Co-op whohad just resigned from the Northern Combination League. After securing a loan from Ryton Social Club of £12 10/s John and Les approached local Councillor Leo Murray and obtained permission to play at Stargate, & Ryton played their first Northern Combination League game, a 3-3 draw, against works team Parsons Athletic on Saturday 17th October1970. The mid 1980’s saw the club transfer to Clara Vale for our home games & during this period Ryton won the Prudhoe Hospital Cup twice, the Northern Combination League Cup as well as the Durham County Trophy. Following the amalgamation, in 1988, of the Northern Alliance, the Northern Combination and the Northern Amateur Leagues into three divisions, Ryton were allocated a position in the First Division of the newly structured Northern Football Alliance League, winning that title in 1997, thus securing promotion to the Premier Division where we remained until gaining promotion to the Northern League at the end of the 2004– 05 season. 2005-06 marked our first season in the Northern League finishing a respectable 11th place in Division 2, followed by a 12th place finish in 2006-07 then a commendable 3rd place in 2007-08 which gained us promotion to Division 1 for the 2008-09 season where we finished a very creditable 10th place. Unfortunately that was where the upward progress ended as the following season we finished 17th, then came the infamous 2010-11 season which saw us finish rock bottom with just 8pts, receiving a whole host of league & cup drubbings on the way including Shildon beating us 10-0 & 7-0 in the league & losing 8-0 at home to South Shields in the Vase. Coupled with the fact that our facilities are based in Crawcrook, and wishing to involve the local community further, the club sought, and was subsequently granted permission by The Durham FA, to change our name to RYTON & CRAWCROOK ALBION F.C. at the commencement of the 2011-12 campaign in which we finished 18th in our first season back in the Second Division. 2012-13 saw a slight improvement in fortunes with a 14th placed finish. Then our new very young look outfit in 2013-14 under the guidance of manager John Wilson & his team, also then new to the club, faced a tough campaign with survival the target which was famously secured on our last match of the season. With the squad older and wiser & stability achieved, there was an upward progression with a mid table finish in 14/15 Now the target for 2015-16 is to finish high enough to qualify for the 2016-17 FA Cup, though it was originally under the stewardship of Wilson's former assistant Paul Dobie with Jordan Moore as his henchman. However despite a decent start Paul resigned in October & was swiftly replaced by former Ryton player Craig Robson with Carl Piecha, another ex player as his assistant, with Jordan remaining as coach. Off the field, a lottery grant, achieved in 1998, saw a further move to their current home at Kingsley Park. A highlight being that this facility was officially opened by H.R.H. Prince Andrew. Thanks to a Football Foundation grant a third generation all weather seven a side pitch has now been installed which is not only used by club members but is also open to the local community where it is often used by schools and youth organisations. The Football Club is recognised as having achieved Chartered Status and offers the chance for a child to be coached infootball skills from the age of six years of age, through all age groups, up to senior level. The club currently has numerous teams, ranging from under 7 years of age through to the senior side level & this season are sharing Kingsley Park with English Pyramid Level 5 women’s side RACA Tynedale Ladies FC. Previous Encounter

Alnwick Town endured a miserable afternoon, going down 6-0 at home to Ryton and Crawcrook Albion in Northern League, Division Two. Today’s mauling was the St James’ Park side’s first defeat in five matches in all competitions. It could have been an ever heavier loss too, if it hadn’t been for Alnwick keeper Luc Glasper, who pulled off some fine saves throughout this wind-affected contest. Dan Robinson proved to be the thorn in Alnwick’s side, netting four times for a Ryton side who are performing above expectations this season, sitting in the top half of the table. Things got off to a bad start for Alnwick when they found themselves two-down after eight minutes. Jack Stoddart smashed the visitors ahead with a thunderbolt from distance, before Robinson raced through the middle and slotted past Glasper to make it 2-0. Alnwick had their chances to reduce the deficit, including a Jamie Dixon header which went wide, while Adam Shanks’ luck was out in front of goal. Robinson scored his second of the afternoon in the 34th minute before completing his hat-trick on the stroke of half time to put Ryton 4-0 up at the interval. Things got worse for Alnwick after the break. Will Forsyth scored from close range after 55 minutes before Robinson completed the rout in the 73rd minute. It was a day to forget for Alnwick, who were sloppy throughout; a surprising performance considering their recent run of form, which had seen them go into the game on the back of four straight wins in all competitions. As for Ryton, in was their first victory in four matches.
