Disappointing result on Saturday, especially as we went into half time at 0-0. Whickham were on a good run of form, and we were preventing them from getting any real chances in a fairly quiet game. 2nd half though, 2 freekicks in about 10 minutes and we’ve conceded 2 goals. A mountain to climb, and then the 3rd goal pretty much finished it. Lewis Robson grabbed a cracking goal to reduce the deficit, and we had a little rally but got caught on the break to end the game 4-1. Got to keep our heads up if we concede, and we’ve got to start creating more chances and make the opposition keeper work. Cheers, Cook.
Editor’s Column
I always seem to be on Facebook and Twitter pushing for Match and Ball sponsors, and when you get no takers you begin to lose a bit faith. Then all of a sudden you get an e-mail which restores that faith. We’ll have details of a Match and x2 Ball sponsor in the coming home games. £100 to the club, with
every
bit
of
s p o n s o r s hi p
greatly
appreciated.
We also received an e-mail from an online company enquiring into the possibility of having a banner on the club website. It’s something that we should have sorted within the next couple of weeks, and it also opens up another

for
the
club.
All
good
news!
------------------------------------------------------------Welcome Thornaby to St James’ Park tonight. This isn’t the first time they’ve made the trip up north, after their first visit was called off by the match officials, despite both sides wanting to game to go ahead. Probably a blessing as the pitch is still in pretty good condition following further postponements for both the 1st team and reserves, but it would have saved
our
visitors
a
hefty
bus
fare.
-----------------------------------After tonight we still have 6 home games remaining. Please feel free to bring a friend or family member along to another game. All support is appreciated, and the lads need all the support they can get right now. Hopefully we can repay that support with getting points back on the board. Cheers, Cook

Club History
Alnwick Town Association Football Club was formed in 1879, and was then known as Alnwick United Services. The club was the only Association Football side between Dunbar and Newcastle. It is believed that the club played in red shirts with thin black hoops, black shorts and black socks. In 1900 the club moved to our current home, St James’ Park. The club’s name was also changed, to Alnwick United Juniors. Between this time and the beginning of the First World War, the name changed between United and Town on several occasions, and also a brief spell as Alnwick St James’s. The club competed in the North Northumberland League until 1923, moving to the East Northumberland League until 1936. The club was then renamed Alnwick Town, and would compete in the Northern Alliance until 1982, apart from 1 season in the Durham Central League in 1964-65. The 60’s and early 70’s were Alnwick Town’s golden years, winning the Northern Alliance on 7 occasions and a league and cup double 5 times. In 1982-83, Alnwick Town were admitted into the newly formed Northern League Division 2. In the 1988/89 season the club finished runners-up and were promoted to the 1st Division, the highest tier of the football pyramid they have played in to date. The club also elected the league’s first female chairman, Judith Draycott. Relegation from the Northern League 1st Division followed after 2 seasons in 1990/91. The club remained in the Northern League 2nd Division until the 2006-07 season, when failing to meet ground criteria and lack of funds resulted in relegation back to the Northern Alliance. A change in chairman, committee and management saved the club from extinction, and with the club spending 4 seasons in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, they were promoted back to the Northern League for the 2011-12 season. Whilst in the Alliance, the club won the Senior Benevolent Bowl and the Pinpoint Recruitment Cup. The club were also awarded F.A Charter Standard for the first time in their history.
Club History
The club now faces its 5th straight season in the Northern League, looking to build on the 2014-15 season points total of 50, their highest since returning from the Northern Alliance. But it was almost a different story. The 2012-13 season saw the club complete the ‘Great Escape’ on the final day of the season, which was also the club’s 1000th game in the Northern League. A 5-2 victory at St James’ Park against Washington secured Northern League status for the club. Jon Colley scored a hat-trick to complete a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the club. The 2014-15 season saw the club reach the 2nd Round of the F.A Vase for the first time since the 1975-76 season. Sadly, a 4-5 defeat at home to St Helens Town in extra time ended the Wembley dream for another year. In 2015-16 we look forward to another positive year, with a new management team in place and fresh ideas for the future. At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the Northern League gained a freshly-named club in its ranks in the guise of Thornaby - and one that has a bright future to look forward to and will be a force to be reckoned with in its native area of Teesside. The newly-named club had had a long and chequered career after originally starting life as Stockton Athletic in 1882. For 50 years it became one of the country's leading amateur sides, winning many Northern League honours during this time. After this successful period, thirty more years elapsed with membership held in various other leagues before a decline in fortunes, mainly due to financial problems, saw the club disband in 1975, and the historic Victoria Ground sold off for building land. Eventually, in 1980, the long journey back began and the re-formed Stockton joined the Wearside League for the 1980/81 season, eventually regaining Northern League status at the 1985 AGM, reverting to Thornaby-on-Tees FC for 1999/2000 and a year later to Thornaby FC. The birth of Thornaby as a new team was based on very sound practical reasons. There was a definite need to identify with the local community in a more effective way, and that much-needed support could be generated with local businesses being actively involved. The eventual aim for Thornaby is to challenge the 'giants' of the Northern League, many of whom are hugely respected throughout the non-League scene. As well as the Northern League team, they have 4 junior teams aged from under 7s 10s, U13s U18s and a Vets teams. Since reformation in 1980, major honours include winning the Stockton & Dist: 1980-81 Wearside: 1981-85 – Sunderland Shipowners Cup R-Up 1982-83- North Riding Senior Cup 19858: Northern League Second Division championship in 1987-88, 91-92 and the Craven Cup in 1995. For any club to be successful the infrastructure has to be in place, and Thornaby's hard working committee, including secretary Trevor Wing and chairman Laurence Lyons, have plans for major ground developments some have been made already including a club house, café, seats in the stand, hard standing round the pitch and refurbished changing rooms and Floodlights.
Opposition Info
HORNABY 1 v 0 WILLINGTON The home side started slowly with the visitors looking the more likely to score with, some runs down the right by Michael Joseph and Theo Furness lead to crosses but both sides were struggling to make an impact in the box, a Christian Selby shot going over the bar and when he played Gary Mitchell through you would thought just need to put it into the net but he played the ball straight into the keepers arms. Half Time 0-0 Early in the second half keeper Duff made a great safe to stop the visitors from going in front ten on 55 minutes Thornaby made a double substations bringing on Richard Walker and Daniel Lofts which brought on an immediate reaction, Lofts played an one two with Mitchell and he put the home side in front, both sides continued to be well matched and Willington piled on a little pressure but couldn’t get the equaliser in an very tight game, Lofts and Walker made an big difference for the home side, but Walker let the side down when he was red carded for a second yellow on 89 minutes. -------------------------------------------------------------HEATON STANNINGTON 1 v 1 THORNABY FC The visitors started well with both Danny Lofts and Gary Mitchell having early chances , the main threat from the home side was the long ball to Jonathon Wright . The home side hit the bar in the 10th minute but Thornaby looked the more likely to score with several chances falling to Richie Walker and Gary Mitchell , after 40 mins Lofts was tripped in the area and an penalty was awarded Gary Mitchell took the kick was pushed on the post by the home keeper and then cleared . HT 0-0 The second half followed much the same pattern with Thornaby pushing forward and Heaton looking to catch them with the speed of Wright Richie Walker again had an excellent chance went over the bar . After 77 mins an ball to the right saw Wright fire past Michael Duff from 30 yds for a spectacular opener . Thornaby manager Paul Edwards responded by three changes going to three at the back , within minutes a cross from the right by Porritt was headed home by Kieran Edwards to level the scores in an game Thornaby should have won , but in the end were grateful for a point.

Match Report
Alnwick slide to another home defeat in a rather quiet game, losing out to a strong Whickham side who are in a good run of form writes Media Officer Mark Craggs. Alnwick Town 1-4 Whickham Robson 87’- Fraser 48’,57’; Jelley 71’, 90+2 Chad Collins had the first real attempt for the visitors 16 minutes in, firing just wide for outside of the area. Kallum Broadhead shot from a pull back but was denied by a good save by Alnwick stopper Callum Brooks foot. Alnwick almost scored right on halftime, James Jackson’s cross was flicked to the back post by Jonathyn Quinn. Rob Baker jumped against Whickham keeper Alex Curran which the latter missing the ball but he managed to dive backwards to recover the ball. The halftime score was 0-0. Within only three second half minutes Whickham were one up, Broadhead’s free kick came through a crowd unscaved and was pushed away by Brooks. However the ball bounced off Jordan Fraser and rolled home. A second was added 10 minutes later and it was Fraser the centre back again who tapped in from a low cross that wasn’t dealt with. Goal number three for the Home Guard came in the 71st minute, Craig Jelley curled home from the edge of the box. Alnwick did manage to pull one back with three minutes to go via substitute Lewis Robson. Robson smashed home from point blank range to Curran giving him no chance to react. 3-1 with only three minutes to play. However the goal was quickly canceled out as Whickham got another stroke of fortune. Brooks saved a cross come shot well but the ball hit Jamie Dixon who was running back. The ball landed perfectly for Jelley who netted with easy. Another disappointing defeat however as mentioned earlier Whickham are in good form and got no less that they really deserved in a poor game.
