2. METHODOLOGY

2.1. ATTAINED ANNUAL OPERATIONAL CII CALCULATION

In its simplest form, the Attained Annual Operational CII is calculated as the ratio of the total mass of CO2 (M) emitted to the total transport work (W) undertaken in a given calendar year, as follows:

Attained CIIship = M / W

The total mass of CO2 emissions is the sum of CO2 emissions (in grams) from all the fuel oil consumed onboard the ship in a given calendar year, as follows:

M = FCj x CFj

Where:

j = Fuel type.

FCj = Total mass (in grams) of consumed fuel oil of type j in the calendar year, as reported under IMO DCS.

CFj = Non-dimensional fuel oil mass to CO2 mass conversion factor for fuel oil of type j, according to Resolution MEPC.308(73), as amended. If fuel oils are used that do not fall into one of the categories as described in Resolution MEPC.308(73), as amended, and have no CF (a non-dimensional conversion factor between fuel oil consumption and CO2 emissions) assigned, the fuel oil supplier should provide a CF for the respective product supported by documentary evidence.

The supply-based transport work is defined as the product of the ship’s maximum summer DWT (as certified in the ship’s approved Stability Booklet, in metric tons) and the distance travelled in a given calendar year (as reported under IMO DCS, in nautical miles), as follows:

Ws = DWT x Dt

Based on the above, the uncorrected Attained Annual Operational CII is calculated as follows:

Attained CIIship = FCj ×CFj DWT×Dt

Rating of tankers according to the CII Rating Guidelines may be carried out using the corrected Attained Annual Operational CII formula as follows (and as applicable):
