A YEAR IN NEWSPAPER
Imani Alexander A Editor in Cheif Editorial
This year at the Alutant I have learned so much. But specifically I learned the power of adaptation. So many things changed this year that really affected our staff. We changed Head Editors three times. We had reporters come and go. And. So. Many. Technical. Difficulties. But we all learned to adapt to those challenges and develop problem solving skills to get our jobs done. Honestly we really just learned how to do our jobs in general. We learned the basics in Graphic Design, Photography, and Media Reporting. We learned how to work in a fast paced environment, with responsibilities and dependability. We learned how to truly work under pressure and we learned to work as a team. The best part about this class is definitely the people. Learning, growing, evolving with everyone was an experience I likely won’t forget. I learned so much, and luckily I have another year to continue to learn and adapt and make the paper even better. And you could come and join us! This class is an incredible opportunity to learn about yourself and find your voice as you go through your high school career, strengthening your abilities and meeting new and interesting people in our community. This class starts at an entry level, so anyone with any skill set will have a place in our publication. This class is an incredible opportunity to devel-
op your skills as you continue through your high school journey. You will learn about Graphic Design, Reporting, Journalistic Storytelling, Flexible Time Management, and working in a fast paced team environment. It’s a great experience when looking for a job, and it really prepares you for having one in the first place. With the end of the year here, I wish the graduating seniors good luck for their future. We’re losing five amazing reporters: Ava Stuart, Jeremy May, Faith Simcox, Jared Gomez and Jaiden Duby. Congratulations on getting this far, and continuing to live and experience life as much as you all can. Your work with the Alutant has helped to make our publication and our school better. To all the future upper and underclassmen, if I can grant you anything, it would be the ability of observation and adaption. Notice what you can change in order to improve, and figure out a way to do it. Then join us at the Alutant and tell the school about it! Lastly, thank you all, readers, for your involvement with our publication. We couldn’t have done any of this without your support, interest, and help. I’ll see you next year Bulldogs!
This class is an incredible opportunity to develop your skills.

Whose Monologue is it Anyway? *Insert Seinfeld Theme Here
The cast of Monologue Night.
A
Steven Szombathy Staff Reporter Review
The Thespian Society has only been around for little more than a month now and is already dazzling the people of Ellensburg with their first hosting of the 4th annual Monologue Night dubbed, “Who’s Monologue is it Anyway?”. Act One consisted of a group of students performing a series of monologues, each one incredible in it’s own way. In order, the monologues were, “I Have Almost Forgot the Taste of Fears”, from Macbeth and performed by James Kirkham, “Oh Mr. Worthing”, from The Importance of Being Earnest O. Wilde and performed by Alice Miller, “What Went Wrong” from Nuts and performed by Shannon Nolan, “The Last M&M Samurai” a comedic monologue performed by Brock Bowers, “Brutus is
an Honourable Man” from Julius Caesar and performed by Griffyn Bellah, “Robins Monologue” from West Side Waltz performed by Shannon Nolan, and last but not least “Helena’s Monologue” from Midsummer Night’s Dream performed by Alice Miller. After that was a ten minute intermission where the audience was asked to right down their favorite movie quote on a slip of paper and place them in a jar. In Act 2 the improv cast used them in one of their games where the papers were scattered across the floor of the stage and the actors had to insert the movie quotes into their act, which in this case was a plane in a sharp descent. The second game was a sneak preview of Bichael Mays new horror romcom, which I’m sure will be a hit at the box office. The cast asked the audience for ideas for this new “hit
movie” like setting, plot, etc., and the cast attempted to act out this cluster of ideas. The final part of Act 2 was the classic improv game Freeze. The actors gathered in a half circle on stage and two or three entered the center of the circle and put on an improvised act. The other actors would yell out “Freeze!” and the scene stopped. The actor who yelled out freeze would walk up and tap one of the actors in the scene and take their place and a new scene would start. The process then repeated over and over. It was probably my favorite part of the show. All in all, it was a really good show, and for anyone who missed it I highly recommend that you go to the next one.

Staff Reporter News Brief
Senior Sunset will be at Craig’s Hill at 8:00 pm on June 5th, the night before graduation. This is an event to bring together the seniors and celebrate our last night together as a class. Students should attend, because it is the last event before graduation and our last chance to be together and have fun. It’s very symbolic, because we started the year with a sunrise and we are ending it with a sunset.

The Thespian Society
Steven Szombathy A Staff Reporter Feature
On April 12th Ellensburg High School’s new Thespian Society came into being with mirth, food, and a fish. The Thespian Society was established in 1929 by Paul Opp,
Brock Bowers, junior, preforming at Monologue Night.
Earnest Bavely, and Harry Leaper. It started in the United States but has since spread to the rest of the world. The Thespian Society’s base goal was to help young actors blossom in to thespians. “The goal of the Society is to unite those interested in theater and other performing arts, whether it be on stage or back stage, film making, special effects, photography and many other related focuses and positions, and give them the tools they need to succeed in what they are passionate about.” This includes group events, state festivals, and workshops, as well as many other activities. ITS (International Thespian Society) is an Honor Society that recognizes schools and their student actors, and the hard work
and dedication to theater in their schools. “Thespian Society Honors are recognized and highly regarded by many universities and other organizations involved with the entertainment industry.” said the Vice President of the EHS troop 8814, Brock Bowers. When members are inducted you get a certificate, membership card, a few other small goodies, and several opportunities to participate in workshops and nationwide competitions. If you are interested in joining the Thespian Society you can talk to Ms. Treadwell, the current Troop President James Kirkham, the Vice President Brock Bowers, the Treasurer Nick Zimny or any of the other members of the Thespian Society.

History Club expores virtual historical monuments
Jaiden Duby A Staff Reporter Feature
Ellensburg Public Library asked Mr. Acheson if they could come in during History Club and bring there VR set to have students test it out. A bunch of students got to experience the VR equipment. VR is normally talked about with video games, but this shows that it could be used for learning too! Andrew Hull (Grade 12) was one of the students that used the VR equipment. Andrew said the VR he viewed was a tour of Mt. Rushmore. He said that you could see it from a distance but could also get very close to it. There was also a tour guide that would tell him history about Mt. Rushmore as he was viewing it himself. “The best part was the moment that I was put into the VR and saw the world suddenly change right before my eyes -
quite literally.” VR is insanely useful for many things, including learning. Andrew said that he learned lots of things from his experience with VR, one of which that the sculpture was supposed to be more than just the heads. “How cool is it kids from Ellensburg can visit the Khmer Ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia or fly with German Luftwaffe running a bombing campaign!” said Mr. Acheson. With VR, students have been able to gain access to land marks around the world, from the Effile Tower to the Wall of China. I highly recommend going down to the Public Library and trying out their VR, or go check out History Club when they have the history VR program set up again. If you’re 18 you can sign your own forms to particapate, but minors will need a parent to sign their permision form.

GRIFFYN BELLAH: OPENING UP TO EHS
Dylan Hardwick A Staff Reporter Feature
Griffyn Bellah is known to most of us as the voice of EHS on the morning announcements. However, the senior wasn’t always so open and sociable. Being in high school has changed him. Bellah explained the thing he likes most about EHS is, “Honestly, the people in my freshman year.” Bellah didn’t start out as the social leader that he is today. Before becoming the voice of the Bulldogs on the announcements, he was quite shy. “I used to be closed off. I didn’t talk to anybody I would move my desk away from groups and sit in the corner alone because I was so introverted.” Bellah said, “But over time I got to look up to a lot of great seniors and now I think I get to be a role model.” As a role model, Bellah would like to be remembered
by all the times, “that I helped people. There are a lot of seniors and people that I looked up to I really had a lot of conversations with them.” Bellah now works to make EHS a more positive place. “I want people in this school to be better not just in activities, I want people to understand that I wanted to make everybody’s day better” He struggled to find anything negative to say about EHS. “I don’t think I hate anything about EHS. In a way, I think there’s certain people who actively don’t invest themselves in high school that is what causes them to not have a good experience. I think people come to school with the mentality that it’s gonna suck for them because they don’t try to make it good for themselves”. He continued to say, “You get whatever you put in back
out, and some people I think just don’t do that so that’s something I don’t really appreciate at the high school. They put in zero effort when it comes to that sort of thing.” Bellah is well known for being in school plays and said that The Drowsy Chaperon was his favorite. “I did it my sophomore year and all I really did was play a record and people had to act out what I thought was going on in the record. I had a lot of fun with that one because I made a ton of fun jokes one of them was that all- bright toothpaste in the 1920s was hugely popular because it contained cocaine.” Next year we will have a new voice of EHS as Bellah moves on to his next adventures along with the rest of the class of 2019. Bellah wants to be remembered by the quote: “You are the most perfect version of

Although the school year is almost over, there is a lot to look back on. From dances to after school get togethers, practices to games, a lot went on. I got to catch up with senior Zach Gabriel and ask how the last couple of years here at Ellensburg High School went. Gabriel has been involved in a lot of school activities, but focused on Cross Country and Soccer. While playing soccer and cross country he was nominated as the captain for both sports. For Gabriel the thing he looks back on with a smile is “playing soccer with the homies.” His favorite moment from playing soccer for the last four years was, “when we beat Quincy in penalties to move on in the play offs.” Gabriel has been playing back since he can remember. This year’s soccer season he scored the first goal for the team against Pullman. For cross country, he was on varsity from his freshman year. He even competed at state his freshman year. Gabriel decided to not run cross country and give up his captain spot to focus on soccer. While playing in both sports he was a captain for cross country and this year a captain for the soccer team. Alongside playing school sports, Gabriel has a passion
Zach and his fixie bike
for riding bikes. If you ask him about anything biking related he can talk to you for hours. While attending college at Western Washington University he wants to build mountain bike trails. “I’m just tryna ride moe ya dig.” Gabirel says. He wants to be outside restoring bike trails while at the same time making new ones for people to enjoy biking as much as he has. While riding bikes is fun, it can also hurt a lot. This year he broke his wrist and had to have surgery to fix it. As he puts it, “I ate the dirt on a gap jump riding my BMX.” The thing he is most looking forward to during college is “learning about stuff that isn’t boring and riding everyday.” Gabriel has had a lot of fun but all good things must come to an end. When asked what he liked about his senior year he said “that highschool is almost over”. The last four years here at El-
lensburg High School have been fun for this senior. His favorite classes were “AP Bio and lunch”. Gabriel recommends taking classes from either Mrs. Burton or Mrs. Zentner because they were his favorite classes from the last four years. Some words of advice from Gabriel are, “assume rumors are fake,” because high school is full of drama. He said that the craziest thing that happened to him during high school was “making varsity freshman year” for the soccer team. Gabriel plans on studying biology so that he can be outdoors and study wildlife. The outside world is a huge part of his life and he has a passion for animals. During the interview he made that really clear. This senior just goes with the flow. When asked where he sees himself in ten years he said, “I’ll probably be dead in ten years to be honest.”

Her four years at EHS threw some hard things at her and it taught her to be more resilient. Rominger’s favorite class is Spanish. She enjoys it because “language is a skill that you can take into the world with you.” When asked about her proudest accomplishment during the last four years, Rominger replied, “Playing Dolly in Hello Dolly was very fun,” as well as, “being a Cross Country Captain this past fall.”
Rominger strikes a theatrical pose with Alice Miller being her scene partner.
Rominger’s passion is music. She expressed that it is lots of fun, helps her relax, and gives her many opportunities. Rominger said, “I’ve gotten to sing at church all four years of high school, and that’s been really cool to be the cantor that leads the mass parts. Being able to do things like All-State and All-Nationals and go do competitions like NATS and Solo and Ensemble [have] all been really fun.” Next year, she will be attending the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. She plans to pursue a vocal performance degree at the Herberger Institute of the Arts. Having enjoyed the class so much in high school, she is thinking about minoring in Spanish if she can make it work with her music interests. Her dream career is to perform by doing musicals and trying out operas. Her secondary dream is to become a music therapist. Rominger is excited to make new friends, try new things, and see what opportunities arise in college and beyond.

“Effort makes you. You will regret someday if you don’t do your best now. Don’t think it’s too late but keep working on it. It may take time, but there’s nothing that gets worse due to practising. So practise. You may get depressed, but its evidence that you are doing good.” -Jeon Jungkook

A fun list of some astrological predictions for the month of June.
(July 24th - August 23rd)
(March 21st - April 19th) Make use of your natural charm! you will feel freer anf better understood by thoses closest to you.
Be as clear as you can be about your goals and what you need for cellular level creative satisfaction. If you can be clear about what you want, then what you want will come to you. This is a good time for emphasis on purification, health and service to others.
(November 23rd - December 22nd) This month gives you an opportunity to clear away thoughts that might block your optimism and confidence about those approaching changes.
(December 23rd - January 20th) (April 20th - May 21st)
(August 24th- September 23rd)
It is a rich time to explore what makes you tick and what you want. Challenge yourself.
This is the best time to practice the art of conscious intention and thereby let go of some of those encumbering control issues. What do want to manifest?
Take notes, keep a diary, communicate, be honest to yourself. Get things out in the open. The sky is not going to fall if you define your life on your terms!
(May 22nd - June 21st) Take action to step out of your safety zone a little bit. Roll with the flow. Step out of responsibility mode a little and stand in your joy.
(January 21st - February 18th) (September 24th - October 23rd) Things have been spacey or uncertain recently. Let that be okay. Career will likely emerge as an area of focus.
Focus on breaking through this month around your fear of letting others down. This month’s mantra: I take responsibility to dream my undreamed dreams.
(October 24th - November 22nd)
(February 19th - March 20th)
You are on a roll as the month begins. Things will be heating up as time goes on. If you could sit down and re-design who you are, what would the new you look like?
Avoid the temptation to escape to your ivory tower of idealism. Being smug simply won’t solve anything now. Focus instead on home, nest and comfort.
(June 22nd - July 23rd) You may be inspired to go back into your shell for respite and safety but consider the ramifications if you do. This is a particularly good time to connect.
