French customs agents make record hashish seizure on Caribbean island of Martinique territories, the majority involving small amounts found on couriers at airports.

Corbaux said no arrests had been made but the investigation continued. PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti _ Hostile comments made by Haitian President Michel Martelly to a woman at a campaign rally have prompted a party in his coalition to remove three officials from his government. The leader of the Fusion Social Democrats says two ministers and the secretary of state will leave President Michel Martelly’s government. Party leader Edmonde Supplice Beauzile said Wednesday that the president’s remarks were unacceptable. Martelly was at a rally last week when a woman complained that his government failed to bring electricity to her community. Haitian media reported that he told her in Haitian Creole to ``go get a man and go in the bushes’’ to have sex.

FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique _ Customs agents on the French territory of Martinique made a record seizure of hash at the island’s Caribbean port, officials said Thursday. Acting on a tip, officers found bricks of hashish packed neatly in 13 boxes in the back of a van that arrived in Martinique with more than 600 other vehicles, Prosecutor Eric Corbaux said.

Officials put the value of the 404 kilograms (891 pounds) of hash at about $2.6 million. It was more than all hash seizures combined The Associated Press from 2012 to 2014 in Martinique and two other French overseas LGBT Jamaicans hold 1st gay pride A presidential spokesman did not respond to a request for comment. Authorities believe the hash was produced in Morocco. The seizure comes just weeks after authorities in the French Caribbean seized nearly $875,000 in cash from suspected drug traffickers arriving from Paris. The most recent incident occurred on the nearby island of Guadeloupe, where officials found large bills inside a hollowed-out dictionary. “These recent seizures reveal we are dealing with local, structured networks that are diversifying their activities,’’ Corbaux said. JOHANNESBURG _ Some African countries that allow hunting are criticizing a decision by Delta Air Lines and other carriers to ban the transport of hunting trophies. The South African government said in a statement Thursday that it is disappointed at Delta’s announcement this week that it will no longer accept lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo trophies. South Africa’s environment ministry says Delta’s “blanket ban’’ does not distinguish between the legal and illegal wildlife trades. Namibia has also warned that the airline ban on trophy transportation will hurt its economy and conservation efforts that rely on revenue from hunters. The ban follows on an American hunter’s killing of a well-known lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe. The Associated Press

Drought worsens in Puerto Rico; government extends severe water restrictions to Rico is under an extreme drought and another 39 per cent under a severe one. The National Drought Mitigation Center said a total of 2.5 million people have been affected.

KINGSTON, Jamaica _ Jamaica’s LGBT community is holding its first gay pride celebrations on the Caribbean island, which is typically described as the region’s most hostile to homosexuality. Events in Kingston so far have included a flash mob gathering in a park and an art exhibit. A symposium on coming out as gay also is scheduled Tuesday. Jamaican gay rights activists say the events are a clear sign that tolerance is expanding in Jamaica even though longstanding laws criminalizing gay sex between men remain on the books. Kingston’s mayor and the island’s justice minister have publicly supported the weeklong ``PrideJa’’ activities, which have been peaceful. Still, many Jamaicans consider homosexuality to be a perversion from abroad and there is widespread resistance to repealing anti-sodomy laws. The Associated Press

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico _ A deepening drought in Puerto Rico has forced the government to extend severe water rationing measures to more communities. A total of nearly 400,000 customers now receive water every third day as the U.S. territory’s main reservoirs continue to shrink. Nearly 13 per cent of Puer-

The newest rationing measures went into effect Wednesday. The drought has forced some businesses to temporarily close as Puerto Rico struggles to emerge from a nearly decade-long economic slump. Other Caribbean islands also are struggling with a drought, including Jamaica, St. Lucia and the Dominican Republic. The Associated Press

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, Virgin Islands _ A former U.S. Virgin Islands government official has been charged in a $17 million bribery scheme. The U.S. Justice Department says Julito Francis faces 11 counts including conspiracy, bribery and perjury. He was the Public Finance Authority’s former director of finance and administration. Also charged are a construction company owner and the coprincipal of an architectural company. They are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12. The indictment states that construction company owner Gerard Castor provided more than $400,000 in improvements to Francis’ home and more than $100,000 to the property of co-principal John Woods. Authorities say that Castor’s company in return obtained more than $17 million in construction contracts including one to build a library in St. Thomas. Attorneys for the men could not be reached for comment. The Associated Press

US Congresswomen: Every Nigerian legislator must be responsible for return of kidnapped girls In Washington, she and Jackson Lee wear something red the campaign colour _ once a week to remind everyone the Chibok girls still are not free. Wilson sported a red Stetson in Nigeria. Jackson Lee said the two have become champion tweeters on Capitol Hill, out-tweeting Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush and the White House with their demands to #BringBackOurGirls. ABUJA, Nigeria _ Two U.S. congresswomen say Nigeria’s #BringBackOurGirls campaign must hold every single newly elected official responsible for the freedom of scores of schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram extremists. They say the movement built up around “the Chibok girls’’ can become a pillar of accountability in the country’s budding democracy. The campaign attracted millions around the world, including first lady Michelle Obama. Then-President Goodluck Jonathan reviled it. His administration initially denied there had been a mass kidnapping in the northeast town of Chibok on April 15, 2014, and even detained two campaign leaders.

In Abuja, the capital, visiting Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee and Frederica Wilson on Tuesday told campaigners to keep up the pressure with new President Muhammadu Buhari. “You don’t give them a pass, from the president all the way down. Pressure! Pressure! Pressure!’’ urged Wilson, a Democrat from Florida. Buhari, a former military dictator, won the March 29 election that Jonathan lost in part for his failure to adequately fight Boko Haram and his callousness over the kidnapped girls. Nigerians “stood in line for hours; you voted in droves to elect a new government,’’ Wilson said.

Some 276 students were kidnapped. Dozens escaped but 219 remain missing. They were last shown in a Boko Haram video claiming they had converted to Islam. Subsequent videos have said the girls have been married off to insurgents and are training to fight. Activists pressing the government and military to rescue them have gathered every day at Unity Fountain in Abuja since April 30, 2014. “The fight for the Chibok girls is the fight for the very soul of Nigeria,’’ campaigner Aisha Yesufu told a small crowd there on Tuesday. The campaign is growing into a broader movement about general accountabili-

ty, strengthening a fledgling democracy that eroded under Jonathan _ Nigeria’s third elected civilian president since military dictatorship ended in 1999. Buhari met the campaigners in his first month in office. He has said he does not know where the girls are but will do everything possible to bring them home. Last month, negotiator Fred Eno said Boko Haram is willing to trade the girls for detained insurgents. Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas, said the United States can help Nigeria not just with military training but also in negotiating skills. She told a news conference earlier Tuesday of previous efforts with Boko Haram: “They came to the table twice and they almost had a deal. But because no one at the table had the technical skills to close the deal, the deal fell apart.’’ At Unity Fountain, Jackson Lee and Wilson urged campaigners to look to the American civil rights movement for inspiration.

those (Chibok) girls,’’ Wilson said. Yesufu, the Nigerian campaigner, said much must be done, not just for the Chibok girls, but hundreds of kidnapped girls and women rescued this year, and hundreds of thousands of children driven from school by Boko Haram, whose name translates roughly as “Western education is forbidden.’’ Yesufu blamed lack of education in the north for the creation of Boko Haram, whose six-year uprising has killed 20,000 people. “If people are uneducated, if people are unemployed, when the terrorists come calling and they give them money, of course the youths are theirs to have,’’ she said. Yesufu said that, once rescued, the Chibok girls must get the education that Boko Haram tried to deprive them of. “They are going to be survivors. They are going to be the kind of women that we are going to say ‘Wow!’

MARICOPA — Bob Marley is synonymous with reggae music. But 34 years after his death, his legacy lives on through his recordings and the band he played with — The Wailers. The Wailers will perform a free show at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino & Resort at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Wailers lead singer Dwayne “Danglin” Anglin recently talked from his home country of Jamaica about visiting Arizona, Marley’s legacy and what reggae music means to him. The Wailers have been to Ari-

zona before but haven’t played a ton of shows here. Anglin was asked what he remembers about the state. “It’s hot,” he said, stating the obvious. But he said very good crowds always show up in Phoenix or wherever else they play. The Wailers do an incredible amount of touring. Anglin said they played about 200 shows last year. After the show at Harrah’s, The Wailers will continue a quick swing through the West Coast this month with shows in Las

Vegas and California. Later this year, the band will do extensive touring in Europe, including England, and India. Marley became a cultural icon, and his influence remains today. It’s a legacy The Wailers keep alive by touring the world and spreading his music and message of peace, equality and freedom. “To me, it’s truly an honor and a privilege to be a part of this legacy,” Anglin said. “It’s something that’s so important to people. Bob Marley is the symbol of peace and justice across the globe, and his music and his message are world-renowned.” Anglin said one has to appreciate everything that Marley, who died at 36, accomplished in such a short period of time. He said Marley created “timeless music.” “Legend,” a compilation album of Bob Marley and The Wailers released in 1984, has one of the longest runs of nonconsecutive weeks (more than 300) on the Billboard 200 album chart of alltime — a testament to Marley and the band’s lasting impact. It peaked at No. 5 last September,

30 years after its release, and has sold more than 13 million copies in the United States. “That is proof that the music is widely appreciated,” Anglin said, adding the popularity of Marley is also evident today with his poster being perhaps the No. 1 poster on college campuses. Reggae music has its own distinct style, which originated in Jamaica and combines elements of R&B, jazz and other styles. “Reggae music is feel music — it’s not written music,” Anglin said. “It’s not typical to the rules or traditions of musical composition. It’s very different. There are no rules when making reggae music; it’s about the sound and the feel.” Anglin said part of reggae’s distinct style comes from playing against the traditional beat, something he referred to as the “imaginary upbeat.” “The way the organ is shuffled — that’s not done in any other kind of music,” he said. Anglin said reggae music is instantly recognizable and puts the listener in a different mood than any other music genre.

However, Anglin has an eclectic taste in music. He often listens to music by artists from other genres, listing the Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones and Tracy Chapman as some of his favorites who have influenced his musical style. He also enjoys “stripped down” acoustic performances of singer-songwriters like Neil Diamond and James Taylor. The Wailers have even collaborated with country star Kenny Chesney on “Spread The Love,” which proved a success. “That was a great experience,” Anglin said of working with Chesney, adding it helps widen the audiences for both bands. “That’s why you do collaborations — to share a fan base. I’m sure a lot of Kenny’s fans were intrigued and entertained by the song and probably ventured out to seek some more Wailers cuts and hopefully became fans.” Anglin is also in the process of recording a solo album, which he hopes to release next spring. Music Review: Dr. Dre returns after 16 years with classic sounding 'Compton' album “Once upon a time, I shot a (person) on accident. I tried to kill him but I guess I needed more practicing. That's when I realized banging wasn't for everybody,'' Lamar rhymes on “Deep Water,'' which begins with the gut-wrenching sounds of a man splashing, and gasping for air.

Dr. Dre, Compton (Aftermath/Interscope) Dr. Dre's new album “Compton'' doesn't just unfold, it charges forward _ a barrelling mass of relentless beats and lyrical strong-arming that amounts to much more than anyone could have expected from a hip-hop legend whose last solo album hit shelves in 1999. He might be millions of dollars richer and several decades removed from the life that inspired the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, “Straight Outta Compton,'' but Dre has not lost his edge, nor has he lost his touch. “Murder this, murder listen, hit a suburban whippin','' Dre spits on “Genocide.'' ''Tinted windows, (gun sound) right at your wifey, and I bet you miss her.” The man can still rap. Fellow veterans Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg deliver perhaps their hardest verses in recent memory on “Issues'' and “One Shot, One Kill,'' respectively. But Dre's outstanding production _ with help from Dem Jointz, DJ Dahi, Focus. and more _ is what makes “Compton'' enthralling. Verses from Kendrick Lamar and newcomer King Mez also shake things up.

“Loose Cannons'' is sonically bananas, with its shifting sound beds, which transition seamlessly between rolling drums, heavy metal-inspired strings and more, while Xzibit, Cold 187um and Sly Pyper take turns on vocals. The song concludes with a chilling skit that ends with a woman being shot then buried. Perhaps the album's most shocking line comes by way of Eminem on the otherwise clever “Medicine Man.'' In a rapid fire verse about dismissing consequences and murdering rappers on every Dre-provided beat, Em spouts off about raping b-words who enjoy it _ a poor way, perhaps, of describing how even his critics and competition relish his bars. Anger is ever-present on “Compton,'' but there's reflection, too. “Animals,'' which counts DJ Premier among its producers, captures that emotion and puts things into perspective. “Still tryna figure out, why the (expletive) I'm full of rage,'' Dre raps, later adding, “Just a young black man from Compton wondering who could save us.'' It is a question that needed answering at the start of Dre's career, and it is a question that could use an answer now. By Melanie J. Sims THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Rapper Busta Rhymes arrested on assault charges following fight at gym NEW YORK (AP)_ Rapper Busta Rhymes has been charged with assault after allegedly throwing a protein drink at a Manhattan gym employee. Authorities say 43-year-old Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The incident happened at Steel Gym in the city’s Chelsea neighbourhood.

A spokesman for the New York Police Department says the Brooklyn-born rapper and the worker had been involved in a dispute that escalated. He says Rhymes allegedly threw a 17-ounce cardboard container of strawberry protein drink at the man, hitting him in the head. It wasn’t immediately known if there were injuries. A lawyer for Rhymes, known for his songs “Gimme Some More’’ and “Dangerous,’’ tells The Daily News he’s confident Rhymes will beat the second degree assault charge. Court information wasn’t immediately available. (AP Photo/Gary He)

Cure sings from the heart throughout the album: “Set Me Free” is a sweet groove; “Show Love” is tender; and “That Girl” features his captivating vocals. “The Cure” showcases an evolved sound from Cure’s previous albums, and his poetic messages of empowerment and love make this a classic.

al agency that oversees bankruptcy proceedings. Stephen Savva, a lawyer for 50 Cent, says no deal had been reached to lease the Farmington mansion, which the rapper purchased in 2003. Court filings show he's been paying $72,000 a month to maintain the property. DRAKE AND MEEK MILL - FEUD FUELS BURGER WARS

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Back in the day, feuds between rappers were talked about among fans, but mainstream America paid little attention. That isn’t the case with the beef between Drake and Meek Mill. Corporate America has jumped in to take sides in the hopes their efforts to end the feud -- or at least poke fun at it -- might endear them to younger customers. The fast-food chains Whataburger, White Castle and Burger King have all launched slogans about the war of words. For example in one Twitter post, Burger King writes: ``All these burgers and they still got beef.’’ The post was placed alongside a photo of its Whopper sandwich.

NEW YORK (AP) _ She is hardly a household name _ except maybe in her own household. But Shanice Williams hopes you’ll get to know her when she plays Dorothy in N-B-C’s live T-V production of “The Wiz.’’ The 19-year-old performer says she’s excited to follow in the path of Stephanie Mills and Diana Ross, who played Dorothy in the all-black remake of the “Wizard of Oz.’’ Mills had the role on Broadway while Ross did the movie version. Williams says she will use those two as inspiration for her own work _ but hopes the audience will see some of her in the role. The live show is Dec. 3rd. Advertisment

Top NBA pick Towns impressed by Wildcats' summer workouts

LEXINGTON, Ky. _ Kentucky coach John Calipari believes his latest class of talented recruits can keep the Wildcats in the national championship discussion. Playing pickup games against those newcomers has No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns just as convinced of the Wildcats' potential. Back in Lexington this week to help with Calipari's summer camp, the Minnesota Timberwolves' top selection is impressed by the mix of returnees from last year's 38-1 Final Four squad and another group of prized prospects. Leading Kentucky's class are Canadian forward Jamal Murray and 6-foot-11 Skal Labissiere, from Haiti. Labissiere has amazed the 6-11

Towns in those impromptu games, but Calipari's third No. 1 overall choice stopped short of praising his successor too much and said joking on Saturday, “there's a reason I'm a pro and he's a rook(ie).''

overall in June. He averaged 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. He says he looks forward to discovering the finer points of pivot play from future Hall of Fame big man Kevin Garnett with the Timberwolves.

Considering that Towns was a raw pupil himself last summer, Calipari believes Labissiere, Murray and fellow freshmen Isaiah Briscoe, Charles Matthews can learn and grow just as quickly. The Wildcats also signed junior college transfer Mychal Mulder, another Canadian.

That exhibition game will match Wildcats pro players against North Carolina pros, and Calipari hinted that some proceeds may be donated in the name of legendary late Tar Heels coach Dean Smith. Then comes the real season, when Calipari rolls out his latest talented group.

“The greatest thing for all these kids is they get to go against these guys,'' the coach said. “They're all wired in a way to be competitive and they want to work. ... If you don't want to fight, you can't play here.'' Towns is the latest example of making the most out of his brief stay at Kentucky. Projected as a potential lottery pick when he arrived, Towns steadily built his draft stock and eventually became the first of four Kentucky players to be drafted in the top 13 and six

“To have (Garnett) on my team and be able to learn from him is a blessing,'' said Towns, who plans to play in the Kentucky alumni charity game on Sept. 13 at Rupp Arena.

The Hall of Fame coach isn't predicting anything close to last year's team, which began 38-0 before losing to Wisconsin in the Final Four. But he believes they can do something special. “Early on it may be ugly,'' Calipari said, “but I'm not worried because we've got good players.'' Not to mention, good alumni eager to help their development. By Gary B. Graves THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., becomes the star rapper in 'Straight Outta Compton' Jackson: I've been seeing him rap these words forever, you know? So it's cool to finally be on the other side of that. To have been looking at his movements and then getting them down. I had the time of my life. Ice Cube: We first took him on tour, me and my wife, when he was 1 1/2. ... So he's been around movies and music his whole life. ... Then at 18, he started to really perform with me. So he has a knack for the stage. I've seen him rap my songs before on stage, with me. So to see him do this on the big screen, it was great. I wasn't surprised that he was so good, because I knew how good he was. In this Sunday, August 2, 2015 photo, Ice Cube left, and son O'Shea Jackson Jr. pose for a portrait in promotion of the new film "Straight Outta Compton," at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. LOS ANGELES _ O'Shea Jackson Jr. was determined to play his father, Ice Cube, in “Straight Outta Compton.'' Not only does the 24-year-old look uncannily like his dad, but he's also got the rapper-turned-movie star's mannerisms and expressions down _ something he used to his advantage during the twoyear audition process. Jackson Jr. makes his acting debut in “Straight Outta Compton,'' opening Aug. 14. The film captures the rise and rupture of N.W.A., the group credited with starting gangster rap and inspiring warning labels on album covers for its provocative, incendiary lyrics. Founding members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are among the film's producers. Father and son sat side by side to talk with The Associated Press about bringing Ice Cube to life on-screen. The remarks have been edited
