Motivation letter AM2014 in Taiwan was a success. 5 years has passed, and as a non-governmental organization, much has happened in FMS-Taiwan. Being key drivers of intergovernmental collaboration, ranging from medical education system and social, environmental topics, we've achieved many goals. Like the WHO Simulation we hosted in 2017 and the Sub-Regional Training last summer, we know we can bring you the best of Taiwan. We are excited to keep the passion burning and are more than proud to welcome you back to the heart of Asia-Pacific. We believe that for IFMSAsians, the General Assembly was intoxicating; talented delegates, mixing ideas, perspectives and knowledge in a global environment with a thousand medical students from across the world is an incredible experience both personally and professionally, and one that stays with every of you for life. With that we would like to introduce to you our theme this year: Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Healthcare. With interesting and interactive side events including artificial intelligence, VR/AR, 3D-printing and robotics, we hope, and indeed to do so with great confidence, that the General Assembly in Taiwan will be able to further enrich and expand your learning experience. With highlights of the social programs which you can find below, AM2019 is going to build up and strengthen your international networks and friendships. The exploration of distinctive traditional Taiwanese history, culture as well as natural sceneries will never come to an end. With legacies as varied as its adventure landscape and spirited traditions thriving alongside the cream of Asian sophistication, Taiwan is a continent on one green island. Our team is already bustling about to show you the best of Taiwan. Check out the list of the best things to do while on your visit and enjoy the August Meeting 2019!

Theme Event Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Health Care

September 25, 2015, the "Overturn Our World: 2030 Sustainable Development Policy" was issued. (Sustainable Development Goals: 17 Goals to transform our world) The third one of the goals (SDG3) is "Ensure a healthy lifestyle and promote the well-being of all people of all ages." The World Health Organization takes SDG3 as a priority reference policy for achieving numerous sub-goals and goals. With the rapid development of science, many new technologies and innovations widely applied in current healthcare system. Speaking of the healthcare system, technology has brought a lot of convenience, but it has also leads to many problems. How to make the changes brought by science and technology coexist in harmony with medical behaviors to bring benefits to global health, and also to maintain the sustainable development of our current healthcare system are some of the critical issues that all medical students should recognize and ponder carefully.

13

The role and importance of technology in healthcare The growing trend of big data analysis give our decision makers of public health a chance to arrange the resources more precisely. The application of augmented reality makes 100% of tumor resection become possible. The accuracy rate of Artifical Intelligence in diagnosis of pathological examination is even higher than pathologist. According to the report of National Science Board, in 2015, the total funding for Research and Design (R&D) of OECD reach a historical peak of $1.2 trillion, and the health and environment objective accounted for the 2nd high ratio of the total amount, just second to the defense. Thus, the promotion of medical research and technology has become the major development goal in many countries. By organizing workshop, we hope all the delegates could understand the rising importance of using technology in medial practice, realize which technology has been commonly applied in medical industry and acquire some concepts of the future trend of medical technology.

Challenges and related issues brought by technology In contemporary health care, the introduction of new medical technologies not only led to marked increase in patient welfare, but also brought profound influence within different levels, from healthcare legislations, hospital guidelines to personal practicing behaviors.

14

Some critical diseases which we used to consider dreadful have been relieved and cured. What's more, no longer would we feel helpless in the face of high-risk surgical operations. The exponential progress of technology advances, the dazzling amount of medical information accessible at one's fingertips, and the modern consumer's increasing focus on health and wellness have all impacted the conventional paternalistic doctor-patient relationship in many ways. Utilizing advanced medical equipment without adequate management system can give rise to significant risks such as cross-contamination, surgical fires, alarm fatigue, radiation exposure, and medication distribution mistake, etc.

The theme session seeks to open a dialogue on the upcoming challenges medical technology may create in the future, and discuss the underlying reasons in search of possible measures to be undertaken in the face of technology change.

15

How can we face the challenges brought by Technology? In addition to the advantages and disadvantages mentioned above, what impacts could the introduction of technology in healthcare bring to us? With cutting-edge health technology contributing to skyrocketing healthcare costs, what steps should be taken to ensure that the progresses do not leave countries, communities or people behind? And how could we prepare ourselves when facing these challenges? We hope that by discussing with lecturers who are able to share his or her own experiences and opinions, delegates can be equipped with the concepts of impacts and challenges on healthcare system developed by technology. Futhermore, we, medical students must renew our concepts for making medical behaviors with the presence of developing technology.
