IT IS BEYOND DOUBT THAT NEW ZEALAND IS A COUNTRY THAT OFFERS THE SPARKLING WINEMAKER A BOUNTY OF OPPORTUNITY. These days, the majority of New Zealand’s WELLINGTON

sparkling wines are made using the “tank” method of production. These wines tend to be easy going and approachable and are most often produced from New Zealand’s flagship grape, Sauvignon Blanc. However, there are also a number of producers who choose to focus on producing wines with greater complexity using the Methode Traditionelle. These wines are a fantastic

Bluebell Vineyard Estates is a familyrun winery located in the South Downs National Park in East-Sussex. The majority of the estate’s vineyards are made up of south-west facing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines (i.e. the classic Champagne grape varieties). The 2011 Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% Chardonnay in the traditional method, i.e. the same method as Champagne. Bluebell has recently received no less than 10 international awards including an IWC Gold Medal for its Blanc de Blancs 2010. We're expecting big things again for the 2011!

Planting vines on the side of an active volcano can be risky business. But, that hasn’t stopped a new generation of winemakers in the Etna region of Italy who are using the high altitude (up to 1200m in places) and volcanic soils to their benefit to create intensely mineral and complex wines.

The Vivera family purchased their estate in the Martinella district of Mount Etna in 2002. The winery owns 12 hectares of vineyards, which are farmed organically and planted with the native grape varieties: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante.
