WELCOME

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE 2021 On behalf of the AOPA Board, Assembly Planning Committee, and staff it is my pleasure to welcome you to Boston for the 2021 National Assembly. It is wonderful to be together, in-person for the first time in almost two years. Over the next several days, we will spend time rebuilding, reconnecting, and reuniting so we can return to our businesses recharged and refocused. This year, the Assembly will provide you the best in clinical, business, and technical education and insights as well as the latest technologies and services brought to you by our supplier or manufacturer members.

On Thursday evening, we will kick it off with our Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall. This is a great opportunity to network with colleagues new and old and meet with our supplier members and other exhibitors.

Then, join us Friday morning for two engaging general sessions. During the first one, you’ll hear from Former Congressman Erik Paulsen and Nicole Ver Kuilen. Congressman Paulsen represented Minnesota’s Third Congressional District from 2009—2019 and is currently a Strategic Consultant at Total Spectrum.

Nicole, ROMP’s Associate Director of Development and founder of the nonprofit advocacy organization, “Forrest Stump,” lost her leg to bone cancer at age 10 and since has been a voice for better rights for amputees and access to the technology and care they need to live their best lives. She just completed a 1,500 mile triathlon and summited one of South America’s toughest peaks to raise awareness on the inequities amputees face. Together they will share how we can be stronger together when we leverage advocacy, innovation, and our stories.

Following this, Chad Duncan, PhD, CPO, CRC, Veronica Womack, PhD, and Karen Edwards will speak on how “Awareness Drives Change: Recognizing Microaggressions and Biases in O&P”. Walk away being able to recognize, prevent, and intervene on these cognitions and behaviors and be better positioned to create inclusive and authentic interactions in O&P environments.

And, this year, you won’t want to miss the Thranhardt Lecture series as we celebrate 25 years of excellence in clinical research with a luncheon on Friday where we honor the 121 past recipients and hear from this year’s winners.

Once again, the Assembly is full of the finest education, best practices, and latest regulatory and legislative developments that advance our profession as well as strategies for your business. Customize your schedule to learn about policies that will grow your business and create a positive work environment; hear the latest on clinical care for those living with limb loss and limb impairment; and explore state of the art technologies to learn how to incorporate them into your practice. Don’t forget, this year the education (including some not available live) will be available on the virtual platform for 90 days starting September 16.

AOPA has a policy of strict compliance with federal and state antitrust laws which serve to prohibit agreements, combinations and conspiracies in restraint of trade. Attendees at the AOPA National Assembly should avoid discussing certain subjects when they are together at any formal or informal gathering. The following guidelines are to be adhered to at all times during the Assembly:

AOPA MEETINGS CODE OF CONDUCT

The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all meeting participants and AOPA staff.

Attendees are expected to treat everyone with respect and to be considerate of the multitude of views and opinions that are different than their own. Accordingly, all participants, including but not limited to attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, staff and others (“Participants”) are expected to abide by the Meetings & Conferences Code of Conduct (this “Code”). AOPA has a zero-tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment by Participants at our meetings. Set forth below are examples of conduct that will not be condoned at any AOPA event:

Your report will be taken seriously. Confidentiality will be maintained during the investigation to the extent possible without jeopardizing the thoroughness of the investigation. After considering the available information, AOPA leadership or their designees will take any action deemed necessary and appropriate.

BADGES AND TICKETS

Badges must be worn to all functions.

Your badge is your pass to the Exhibit Hall and the education sessions. It also ensures that you are able to greet and be greeted by name by your colleagues and friends. Unless noted otherwise, optional events require tickets. Please remember to bring your tickets with you to the event. If you ordered tickets with your advance registration, you will find them with your badge. If you are missing tickets, please go to registration for verification and replacement. There will be a $50 fee for the replacement of a lost badge.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) has approved a total of 22.25 continuing education (CE) credits for the in-person component of the 2021 AOPA National Assembly and the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) has approved 25.75 CE Credits.

Additionally, Full Conference attendees have access to the virtual component of the National Assembly which provides and additional CE Credits.

Generally, one credit is awarded per session hour. Specific rules apply to specific disciplines. Exhibit Hall credits are available by completing the Exhibits Passbook or exhibit hall forms available from ABC and BOC. Representatives from ABC and BOC will be available during the National Assembly to answer your questions. For the Boston component, since programs run concurrently, you will only be able to earn credits for the programs that you attend. AOPA will be tracking all credits electronically during the National Assembly. To receive credit, please scan your badge at the beginning of each session. Please note that your National Assembly badge may be scanned at only one concurrent session at a time. Those scanning at multiple concurrent sessions will not receive credit. Full-conference registrants will receive a certificate of attendance. You will also find exhibit hall credit forms in your meeting attaché bag.

ABC certified practitioners can earn (3) three Exhibit Hall CE credits and BOC certified practitioners can earn up to five (5) Exhibit Hall CE credits by completing the Exhibits Passbook or appropriate CE Credit Form. To receive credit, you must submit the completed Exhibits Passbook or an application with the required documentation directly to your certifying board or drop off at the AOPA booth (located adjacent to registration in Hall C). The Exhibits Passbook will be provided to you at registration and the applications will be provided in your meeting attaché bag.

Complimentary breakfasts and lunches are available for Full Conference meeting attendees. Your lunch tickets for Friday and Saturday are included with your Full Conference badge. Be sure to bring your ticket with you each day. Lunch will be served as part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Thranhardt Award on Friday and in the Exhibit Hall on Saturday. LOCATION OF EVENTS

Most AOPA National Assembly events will be held at the Hynes Convention Center, including concurrent education, general sessions and the exhibit hall. Manufacturers Workshops and the O&P PAC Reception will be held at the Sheraton. There is an access door between the Sheraton and the Hynes Convention Center located in Hall C of the Hynes and Level 3 of the Sheraton across from the Kent room.

The AOPA National Assembly registration desk will serve as the drop-off and pick-up point for all lost and found items.
