MECHANICAL SPECS: American Trucker uses the “Computer-To-Plate” (CTP) prepress production method and does not output film. We encourage our advertisers to submit ad materials in an electronic format, provided that they have been prepared and submitted in accordance with our guidelines and specifications. METHODS OF SUBMISSION: All ads submitted must include a hard copy (printed) proof to assist in preflighting digital ad files. A color laser proof is recommended for all four-color ads. A fax proof is acceptable for ads sent via e-mail. • FTP (File Transfer Protocol) - Please contact your sales representative for instructions on uploading your ad to our FTP site. • Email - Files exceeding 5MB in size must be sent via removable media or by FTP. • CD or DVD • Omega Zip Cartridge • Macintosh or Windows formatted 3.5” Floppy disc

COMPATIBLE FILES AND SOFTWARE:
• . PDF or .PDF/X1-A files (Must be press-optimized in CMYK color mode with fonts embedded.) To download an Acrobat Distiller joboptions file, or for more information on how to create acceptable .PDF’s, please visit www. pentonads.com. • .EPS files • Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop (flattened file), Adobe Pagemaker, QuarkXpress, or Macromedia Freehand. If submitting a native application file, please provide all supporting graphics and fonts. Convert all colors to CMYK process and all graphics to CMYK mode at 300 dpi (Dots Per Inch). Linked images are preferred over embedded. Text should be converted to curves, outlines, or paths to avoid font incompatibilities, however, this will make the text uneditable, so copy changes will need to be made by the advertiser, then resubmitted. • We accept advertisements prepared on both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
UNSUPPORTED PROGRAMS:
Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, Corel Draw, and Postscript files (.PS or.PRN). These programs are not intended for high-end graphic print reproduction.
FONTS:
When submitting application files, please include screen and printer fonts. American Trucker owns a large library of fonts for both the Macintosh and PC, so if fonts are not provided, we will match as close as possible. On illustrations, it is recommended to convert text to outline, however, outline text cannot be altered.
GRAPHICS:
Vector art images should be saved as CMYK EPS files. Scanned color images should be saved as CMYK TIFF or CMYK EPS files with a resolution of 300 dpi (Dots Per Inch) at the size they will be used in the ad layout (ie: 100%).
PHOTO ELEMENTS/DIGITAL CAMERA IMAGES:
• 300 dpi, actual size; CMYK color model; .TIF or.EPS format; No .JPEG compression. • Please remember that digital cameras have variable quality settings. As a general rule, the “highest” quality setting available should be used. This will produce larger files with fewer images being stored on the camera’s disk, but gives the best assurance of a good reproduc tion. Remember, the quality of the ad is dependent on the clarity of the material that is submitted.
LINE ART/TEXT:
600 dpi minimum; CMYK color model; .TIF or .EPS format with color preview. In Photoshop, black text should be created in black channel only, to avoid registration problems.
COLOR TONE VALUES:
To avoid over-saturation of ink, the total combined value of CMYK colors should not exceed 300% (i.e., C=100, M=100, Y=50). Any one color with a required value over 85% should be made solid.
COLOR MODE:
Ads should be converted to CMYK prior to submission, as color shifts may occur. Ads received in RGB color will be converted to CMYK.

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS:
Please call prior to sending files via e-mail. Page layout, vector artwork and digital camera or scanned images saved in JPEG format may be sent to: your Sales Coordinator or Account Executive. Please include your name, company name, the name of your American Trucker salesperson as well as the issue month in which your ad will be running. This address is for ad submission only.
