The “Back On The Road” campaign created by national used-truck dealership chain Arrow Truck Sales is an annual event filled with lots of emotion. Indeed, there’s usually not a dry eye to be found when the winner gets announced. Now in its fourth year, the contest awards a used but extremely sharp Volvo VN highway tractor and a one-year work agreement with truckload carArrow makes an rier Heartland Express (among many other goodies) to a driver who has “investment” in Back experienced difficulties. Yet it’s so much more, Steve On The Road winner Clough, Arrow’s president, pointed out. “We’re not just throwing a key at you. We want to make this career work for the driver for the long haul,” he explained to me. “Trucking is first and foremost a business. These men and women love driving, but when they are not behind the wheel, they’ve got to do paperwork and pay bills. So we look at providing them with what we call a full ‘life package,’ not just a truck.” Yet that’s only one part of Arrow’s “investment” perspective, he said. “The thought is that maybe in five years after this initial help, they’ve done well enough to buy a few more trucks and hire some hardworking drivers like themselves. That’s the real significance of the program, and our sponsors understand that,” Clough stressed. “That’s why I really love this program.” And a driver successfully building a fleet might turn to Arrow to buy some of the trucks needed for expansion. That’s smart business any way you look at it. AT

Short supply leading to higher prices

T

ruckers looking for late-model, low-mileage used trucks are going to have a tough time finding them in the foreseeable future as supply continues to tighten. Bob Glenn, director of remarketing for Penske, told American Trucker that a year and a half ago, the company’s used-truck inventory included just over 10,000 units listed for sale. By the fourth quarter of last year, however, that inventory had fallen to 2,800 units and remains at low levels. Altogether, Penske sold approximately 23,000 used trucks in 2010. “Pent-up demand started in the first quarter last year and hasn’t stopped,” Glenn said, with tandem and single axle Class 8 day cab tractors displaying the most strength, though all models of used trucks in Penske’s inventory are selling well. That demand spike even extends to trailers, he added. Glenn said that fleets of all sizes— from large national and regional carriers on down to small operators— are in the market, looking primarily for trucks with under 400,000 mi. Steve Clough, president of national used-truck dealership chain Arrow Truck Sales, noted at FTR Associates 2010 Transportation Conference that the used-truck shortage now occurring is due to the record-low production rates of new trucks experienced during the past few years. He pointed out that new-truck production slipped from 133,000 units in 2008 to 95,000 units in 2009. It finished 2010 at 154,290, according to ACT Research, but even with those numbers, the used market cannot be

6 American Trucker/June 2011

Supply of late-model, low-mileage used trucks is expected to be tight. restocked quickly. Thus, combining that atypical spike in demand with low new-truck production rates from 2007 to 2009, volumes that feed the used-truck market, means used-truck supplies are going to be short for at least the next three to four years, Clough said. Kenny Vieth, senior partner and general manager for ACT, explained that shortage is driving up used-truck pricing as well. He shared anecdotal evidence: One carrier recently sold 2009 model tractors with 250,000 to 300,000 mi. on the odometers for $80,000 apiece on the used market. The carrier paid $95,000 for those same trucks brand new. “That’s quite a premium for a truck that’s expended 35 to 40% of its operating mileage,” he said. “That gives you an idea of the valuation in the used market right now.” Eric Starks, FTR’s president, added that many traditional new-truck buyers had been looking to acquire latemodel, low-mileage used equipment over the last year as a way to avoid the upcharge associated with emissions control technology mandated for diesel-powered trucks sold after Jan. 1, 2010. —SEAN KILCARR

s it true that he who owns the gold makes the rules? Who really has the power to decide hauling rates? It seems as if the trucking industry is the only business where the customer decides the price. Does it have to be this way, though? We all know the scenario: Call a broker and before you can get 10 words out of your mouth, heÕs telling you what you can charge on a load. At least thatÕs the perception many truckers have. But then, why are there some truckers and small carriers who seem to consistently get the great paying loads over and over? The answer is simple. TheyÕve discovered itÕs not the guy who owns the gold who has control over hauling rates. These successful truckers know every businessman has in his or her arsenal the one word that gives them the power over cheap freight. WhatÕs this simple word which gives this person control over the operation? ÒNo.Ó ItÕs the power of no! How do you know when to say no? ItÕs when you know your costs and what revenue you need to make a profit. The one who rules the hauling rates is the person who knows when to say noÑand isnÕt afraid to do so. line of all-makes alternators for medium- and heavy-duty trucks has been unveiled by TRP Aftermarket Parts. The alternators are designed to meet or exceed OEM specs and rated for the higher temperatures found in engines meeting 2007 and 2010 emissions standards. “So much has happened with trucks, engines, and emissions systems that places a heavier strain on alternators,” said Everett Seymoure, global manager for TRP Aftermarket Parts. “Truck operators also need cab comfort systems and electronic devices that make the truck a more comfortable and productive work environment. All of these things tax batteries and alternators.” The RE022 brush series offers 150 amps of power and the RE555 brush series offers 160 amps of power; both come with a one-year war-

The brakes are higher performing versions of the company’s Single Anchor Pin, and will be available in a variety of sizes for steer axle applications. Bendix Spicer said the new stopping distances required by NHTSA include a 30% reduction for new three-axle tractors with GVWRs up to 59,600 lbs. and produced after the implementation date. Tractors with two axles, as well as severe-service tractors with GVWRs above 59,600 lbs., must comply with the new mandate by Aug. 1, 2013. TrailerTail shrinks

The Nano will achieve about 4% in fuel economy savings, the company said.

A

smaller version of the TrailerTail aerodynamic device developed by ATDynamics to improve the fuel economy profile of 53-ft. dry van trailers is being readied for launch this fall. It’s aimed at operators of 48-ft. “pup” trailers, intermodal units, and Canadian fleets that face trailer length laws. Babur “Bob” Ozden, ATD ynamics’ C O O, explained that the new “TrailerTail Nano” device will extend out only 2 ft. from the rear of a dry van model, as opposed to the 4 ft. length of the company’s TrailerTail Model 2011 device.

As a result, the Nano will also weigh less than its 175 lb. bigger brother, coming in at about 100 lbs., Ozden noted. It will also cost less—though Ozden is not ready to reveal the price just yet— and will generate fuel economy savings of about 4% compared to the 6.6% achieved by its larger compatriot. ATDynamics said its TrailerTail Model 2011 can save up to 8 gals. of fuel per 1,000 mi. driven at highway speeds (60 mph), a figure that jumps to 14 gals. when tails are used in combination with side skirts. www.atdynamics.com

Online auction kicks off American Trucker site offers buyers and sellers an Internet option

A

new online truck and equipment auction service has been launched this month by American Trucker to help truckers buy and sell used equipment faster and with less expense when compared to traditional auction methods. Go to auctions.trucker.com. “The great benefits to the online auction portal is that you don’t need to move your vehicle to a physical auction site, nor do you need to spend time and money traveling to a physical site to buy or sell equipment,” explains Logan Mellott, director-fleet and distribution for AssetNation, the technology company that powers the Penton Online Auction Service platform run by Penton Media. Penton Media is the parent company of American Trucker. The Penton Online Auction Service platform will also serve equipment buyers in the municipal and agricultural markets. “As a seller, you can be certain that your equipment will be exposed to buyers throughout the country and enable you to convert your equipment to cash quickly,” Mellott notes, pointing to the 7 million equipment buyers and sellers within the Penton Online Auction community. “Also, as a buyer, you’ll have access to dozens of equipment categories and quickly find what you need.” He expects the online format to be of particular benefit to anyone who does not have the time or resources

12 American Trucker/June 2011

available to dispose of equipment via traditional auction avenues. “Buying and selling equipment is not a core business function for truckers,” Mellott says. “Their core business is hauling freight, or delivering gravel to construction sites, etc.

Having a way to quickly and easily list equipment for sale, or search for equipment to buy, is a critical asset for them.” The issue of buying and/or selling equipment is of more importance today because of the growing shortage of such units in the marketplace. “Think about just buying used equipment at an auction today,” Mellott says. “Let’s start with you traveling to the physical location of a traditional auction; you’ve got that base expense to start with. Now, say you don’t find anything you’re look-

Go to

ing for, or your bids are not the winning ones. All that money you put into traveling to the auction is now a sunken investment for you.” Online searches for equipment, however, can be conducted without ever leaving one’s computer. Equipment can be easily listed for sale through this medium, requiring only photographs and data. Mellott notes that American Trucker’s online auction site will list commercial vehicles of all types, from pickups to Class 8 highway tractors, to give a very broad base of equipment choices to meet the needs of almost any trucking application. “There’s certainly no single ‘go-to’ place in the physical sense where you can buy or sell such a wide variety of trucks and trucking-related equipment,” Mellott says. “That’s the benefit of an online auction site. First, we’re not going to run out of physical space to store all of this equipment. And second, you can target your searches quickly to look for the specific equipment you want, rather than walk up and down long rows of trucks to find what you are looking for.” Photos help provide the details regarding the equipment listed on the site, and Mellott eventually expects video options will be added as well. “It’s all designed to create a onestop shop type of environment for fleets looking to buy and/or sell their old equipment,” he explains. —SEAN KILCARR

Time to say good-bye

I

It’s not often that I use this column for my own torpedo of truth, but I have answered more than enough questions about bias-ply tube-type tires on multi-piece rims. People are constantly complaining about Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations requiring them to deflate the tires before removing them from the almost-antiquated cast spoke wheels, or the fact that the components be in good The usefulness of must condition and have identificamulti-piece rims matching tion stamps. And equally fed up has run its course I’m with the questions regarding the quality of low-cost, offshore bias-ply tires. To me, that’s like complaining about the quality of VHS tapes. Which brings me to my first point: Multi-piece rims are not illegal (but they should be). According to OSHA, all multi-piece rims must be in good condition and include an identification stamp that enables the technician to consult a chart to determine if the side ring (or lock ring and flange) is a match for the rim base. Components that are mismatched or not identifiable can cause serious accidents and someone could be killed. Because of this, OSHA passed a law that says they must be visible and they must match. The Dept. of Transportation agrees by saying that a truck will fail an inspection if the multipiece rim parts are not matched, although they’re rarely checked. On the other hand, the 22.5-in. tubeless rim requires no matching components; therefore, it creates no imminent danger. Why would anyone choose a more dangerous and less reliable rim? In this case, the answer has been the price of the tire. Bias-ply tube-type tires used to be a lot cheaper than

Go to

Trucker.com for used equipment listings

the safer and more reliable tubeless radial truck tires that go on single-piece rims. Don’t get me wrong. Every inflated truck tire has enough force to cause a serious or fatal injury. But the multi-piece assembly is by far the most dangerous because metal fatigue cannot always be seen during a visual inspection. That didn’t matter to the holdouts. Even though old school fleets could still use the same cast spoke wheel, the transition to tubeless radial tires was just too expensive—until now. The last holdout for bias-ply tires has traditionally been the intermodal industry, but it appears that longterm supplies of the old 10.00-20 tube-type are starting to look bleak, which means the tide may be turning. Even the most budget-minded overseas tire companies are starting to recognize that tubeless radial truck tires are the key to the future. More new investment is going towards this growing market instead of sustaining the one that’s dying. This, along with rising raw material (natural rubber) costs, has started to drive up prices. The gap between a new 10.00-20 and a new 11R22.5 now doesn’t look as bad as it used to. Around 10 years ago, you could buy a 10.00-20 with a tube and flap for under $100. That same tire today has risen closer to $150 without much of an increase in quality or reliability when compared to an 11R22.5 “cap and casing” at the same price. The writing has been on the wall since the turn of the century, and now we’ve reached the critical stage where supply is starting to become an issue. There are no signs of the situation improving, so it’s time to do the right thing and put an end to the era of multi-piece rims by making the switch to tubeless radial tires before someone else gets hurt. business of trucking

The big picture Setting the proper rates will determine your success

A

business was struggling to keep its doors open; revenue just wasn’t keeping up with costs. The business owner was spilling out her financial woes to a friend, who was a successful businessperson. The friend had one piece of advice: “Double the price of your service.” The owner retorted, “But I’ll lose half of my customers.” To which the friend responded, “And you’ll be making the same money but doing half the work.” While this doesn’t work for every business, the message is that it’s not how hard you work, but how smart you are when it comes to running your operation that determines success. In trucking, it’s not how many miles your trucks travel, but how smart you drive each mile that determines success. You need to look at the big picture. Many truckers spend too much time micromanaging every little detail of their business while missing the big picture altogether. For example, it’s

14 American Trucker/June 2011

important to know your cost per mile, but for it to work in your favor, you must look at costs and revenue over greater distances and time. Every load isn’t going to make a profit, but over time, multiple loads must generate enough revenue to exceed your cost of doing business. One load can’t make or break a carrier’s success. It’s the total number of loads and the revenue produced monthly, quarterly or yearly that is the real measure of success. Setting the rates customers are charged is the number one determinant of success. Charge too little, and you’ll go out of business; charge too much, and the same fate occurs. So how does a business find that middle road where rates are profitable, but they don’t scare away customers? That’s the million-dollar question. You must analyze each market you want to serve before committing as-

Go to

sets. Will it produce the required revenue to cover costs and provide a profit when all is said and done? First, you need to know what it’s going to cost to operate in the market you’ve selected. Determine your fixed cost per month, per quarter and per year. This is a relatively simple task. Take your annual fixed cost (all expenses necessary to keep your doors open, even when the trucks are sitting idle) and divide by 12 for monthly, or by 4 for quarterly fixed cost totals. (This must include the owner’s salary.) Calculate your operational cost per mile. To arrive at this figure, add up all repairs, maintenance and tires for all your trucks over the past year and divide this number by the total odometer miles all the vehicles ran in that 12-month period. This also helps generate a cost forecast. Figure your fuel cost per mile. This can be a challenge, so use the current fuel price on the day or week you perform the calculation. For example, say you have a truck getting 6 mpg and

PARTS:

The Online Option

BY SEAN KILCARR, EDITOR 18 American Trucker/June 2011

or small truckers busy trying to run their business, finding the added time to research parts needed to maintain their vehicles only leads to more downtime. Phone calls and visits to dealers or distributors take time that might be better spent driving the truck and making money. As a result, many truckers settle for part availability and

pricing that comes with the local shop. But in recent years, that’s all changed as technology has provided a window into better information, availability, and competitive pricing that even the owner-operator can take advantage of with just a simple click. At the end of the day, the demand for easier ways to locate and price parts, along with speedier delivery options, are what’s driving the wave of digitalization now sweeping the truck equipment parts world, says Kathy Seegebrecht, vice president-marketing and brand for the Navistar Parts Group. “Fleets today also have fewer people doing more work, so they are turning to a variety of electronic systems for help with parts, as well as in other areas of their business,” says Seegebrecht.

ALL IN ONE PLACE

Paul Tuomi, director of dealer and fleet parts sales for Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), agrees. “The Internet’s impact on heavyduty parts distribution is mostly about speed and accessibility, plus improving effective communication and information exchange,” he notes. “Catalogs and parts documentation have moved from the printed page to the web, providing ready information about the whole spectrum of suppliers from the OES

Go to

[original equipment supplier] to ‘offshore’ options.” The Internet is also fostering stronger business-to-business connections, Tuomi adds. Businesses can now schedule service work or parts delivery; receive status updates on repair work; and receive “more complete responses” to customer service needs between partners, all at a lower cost and in real-time. The digitalization of the truck parts business is not limited to just the Internet, though, Pete Painter points out. “It involves e-commerce initiatives, or connections through virtual private networks operated via enterprise resource planning systems,” explains Painter, vice president-sales & marketing for parts wholesaler FleetPride. “The Internet changed how truckers access part information. Now we have web portals and other systems set up that allow for part ordering, purchasing, and other services. This goes far beyond merely accessing part pricing information.” While the Internet has provided more accessibility and information to fleets, including the ability to electronically connect fleets with their service providers, it still is not the preferred method for purchasing, according to Jim Pennig, vice president-business development for aftermarket parts supplier Vipar

Heavy Duty. “At this point, we don’t believe the heavy-duty segment of the business has migrated to a retail online purchasing method,” Pennig stresses. “The end purchase is still largely taking place between the fleet and provider, in our case the aftermarket distributor.” One thing the Internet has done is create another line of communication. That means fleets can quickly see whether a part is available from a particular supplier, how much that part will cost, and whether other suppliers might offer a better value. It has not, though, replaced the need for human interaction. “The Internet, in this respect, has created much more transparency to ultimately benefit customers but nothing further,” says Jeff Sass, general marketing manager for Paccar Parts. “Our research indicates that customers prefer to be contacted directly by a sales contact through face-to-face interaction or by telephone, and paper-based communication through direct mail and magazine advertising. Within the last couple of years, we have seen a shift as email has become the preferable way of communication.”

A SHIFT IS COMING

Navistar’s Seegebrecht believes the big digital shift is closer at hand than many think. “A lot of the trucking parts business today is still conducted over the phone,” she explains. “But over the next five years, we believe that will really change as the next generation of fleet managers moves into the business.” The ability for parts suppliers to match the flexible 24/7 schedule of today’s fleet manager who is no longer tied to his or her desk is becoming more critical, Seegebrecht says. Whether that information is deliv-

cover story ered via computer, smartphone or other mobile device, it needs to be provided quickly on the manager’s schedule and with the options necessary, such as pricing OEM parts alongside competitive alternatives. With knowledge and information comes increasing complexity. Too many choices can bog down the decision-making process; not enough information can slow the process. That’s why Tuomi believes the experience and training of parts professionals remains vital to making the correct decisions. “For all its speed and power, the Internet has not yet replaced the need for distribution networks that provide local product support and local parts inventory,” he says. “The need to fix trucks quickly and get them back on the concrete superhighway is even more time- and place-sensitive than the information superhighway can support.”

DELIVERY SLOWDOWN One area that is slowing down due to the Internet is parts distribution. Customers with the ability to search nationwide for just the right part at just the right price are now faced with longer waits for that part to be shipped across the country.

Many of the same parts found on store shelves can be ordered online. “The Internet has made parts distribution less efficient because customers are searching across the country for parts that they could find near their home base,” Paccar Parts’ Sass explains. “Rather than go to their local retailer for qualityensured parts, they order from suppliers all over the world.” That’s why, he says, many suppliers like Paccar Parts continue to place a greater importance on developing partnerships. These partnerships can provide peace of mind to truckers through improved customer service, warranty support,

and the knowledge that the part purchased is a quality part with a local company that will stand behind it. “These elements have become vital to our business and are a result of a growing influx of lower quality and untested parts entering today’s market by other suppliers,” Sass says. The same arguments for staying local apply to the aftermarket side of the parts business as well. “Don’t overlook the true value of salespersons/sales managers who call on and service the wholesale distributors and original equipment dealers,” says Aaron Bickford, marketing director-aftermarket for Meritor Inc. “They are problem-solvers, troubleshooters, and facilitators [ready] to take care of customers. They have massive industry experience and relationships still matter.”

THE DISTRIBUTOR’S ROLE

Online ordering sometimes leads to a longer wait as a part is shipped across the country.

Despite the growing use of the Internet to find parts, Bickford still believes distribution centers play a vital role. “The bottom line to an efficient aftermarket is stocking and sending the needed part to the truck operator who needs it now,” he explains. “Until a vehicle can send its own signal that ‘I need a brake part or

vocational types of all sizes with the right parts and with a network of over 400 service facilities, we’ll have the ultimate in flexibility versus the OE brands,” he said. Meritor’s Bickford agrees, suggesting that even the OE dealer community is beginning to move towards all-makes parts to service the modern dealerships, many of which now include multiple brands.

THE POWER OF PRICE The days of keeping a large parts inventory on hand are dwindling. driveline part replaced in the next 100 mi.,’ we will need a viable, proactive, quality-focused aftermarket with speedy, on-time delivery, as promised.” From Bickford’s perspective, parts suppliers use tools like the Internet as a means to provide faster, quicker services as part of a more sophisticated warehouse management, logistics and freight optimization strategy. As convenient as the Internet has made ordering, the reality is that fleets are still spread out geographically across the U.S. and still require just-in-time inventory delivery, according to Vipar’s Pennig.

E-COMMERCE EFFICIENCY “It has allowed us to make the process more efficient,” Pennig points out. “In our case, using our v-Enterprise e-commerce system, we connect our fleet customers with us and our distributors electronically for everything from placing the initial order to receiving the final invoicing, while reducing the time and resources needed for the process.” Due to the ability to order and receive parts quickly, more truckers are now keeping only parts for routine maintenance and repair on hand, Paccar Parts’ Sass says. There is also an increase in truckers look-

ing for national programs with standardized pricing, centralized billing, and national parts availability. That is leading to a one-stop shop mentality where a provider must service all makes and all models. “Fleets would prefer to call a single source, or as few as needed, to cover all their needs rather than having to utilize multiple sources. They want one-stop shopping,” explains Pennig. “The source that has the strongest relationship with a trucker is the one who has the ability to provide bumper-to-bumper coverage for the [trucker’s] demands.” To take advantage of this trend, Heavy Duty America and Truck Pride Partners merged last year to form HDA Truck Pride, an aftermarket parts distributor. The company’s plan is to unify and expand its distribution networks, consolidate product and program offerings while still maintaining the independent aftermarket channel as a viable alternative to dealership networks, noted Don Reimondo, HDA’s CEO, in a speech at the Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week conference in Las Vegas earlier this year. “With a new unified group with the power of 700 locations, all able to service independent repair shops, national fleets, regional fleets, and

Even as the industry starts focusing on the ease and speed of ordering parts, one factor still garners a considerable amount of attention: price. “We are seeing a lot of pricing pressure from our dealers and their customers, especially as imported products are gaining acceptance as quality has improved and maintenance budgets have been cut,” says Daniel Haggarty, director of parts marketing for Daimler Trucks North America. Indeed, the economic pressures that continue to dog truckers of all shapes and sizes is one reason OEMs themselves are trying to bring lower-cost products to their parts shelves. Yet Haggerty notes that extended warranties for parts are only proving marginally popular. “We’ve also seen other OEMs launch their own brands of ‘second-line’ parts focused at value customers like second or third owners,” he says. Meritor’s Bickford says that parts sourcing can occur from all around the world, so quality materials and workmanship must be present at all times. “Equal to that is the after-the-sale service support,” he stresses. “Truck operators must still ask themselves, ‘Who will stand behind the part? Who can I turn to? What’s the engineering-approved use for a particular part?’ A price is not always the correct answer or solution.” AT

Retreads

Y

Years ago, fleet managers avoided retreads, fearing tire failure and downtime for their trucks. But modern technology has produced many advances in retreading techniques. “Customers are asking for help to keep their costs down and maximize their uptime,” says Jaye Young, U.S. country marketing manager, Michelin Americas Truck Tires. “Freight is starting to move again, so it’s more important than ever for fleets to keep every piece of equipment working. In addition, with the rising price of fuel, fuel-efficient tires and retreads have become a priority for many fleets.” Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) uses many of the same tread designs and compounds as those found in new Michelin tires, Young says, and can offer substantial cost savings through improved fuel efficiency and reduced wear. “MRT offers its retread process through a franchise system—the same equipment, the same process, the same standards are all used throughout the MRT franchise network, ensuring consistency and high quality for the fleets,” Young says. According to Chris Ripani, director of marketingstrategic brands and channels for Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions, “Retreading has been the best way for fleet managers to maximize the return on their tire assets.” At the top of a customer’s list of concerns is finding a provider that can offer a “total package of solutions that fits a fleet’s specific tire needs,” Ripani says. Also on the list are retreads that offer performance that closely matches new tire performance, reliable and cost-effective emergency breakdown services, recommendations and advice on fleet tire programs, suggestions for ways to achieve the lowest operating cost, and a comprehensive dealer network. “The relationship we have with our customers is every bit as important as the products we sell,” Ripani says. First, Ripani says, you need to develop an analysis of a fleet’s tire mix. “We have software to track each tire and analyze performance,” he says. “[And the use of] casing inspection equipment to determine if it should be retreaded or removed from service has improved retread reliability.”

Maximizing asset value is now a concern

22 American Trucker/June 2011

“During difficult economic times, good managers are looking for ways to contain and/or reduce costs and maximize efficient use of assets,” says Bill Sweatman, president, Marangoni Tread North America. “Tires are an important asset and a relevant operating expense. We have seen a rebound of the retreading market and a shift in the new tire to retread purchase ratio by commercial fleets.” Fleets are looking to maximize total casing life and value of tire assets, Sweatman adds. “Our Ringtread technology has eliminated the splice, and the contoured shape of the tread results in improved reliability, longer mileage and lower rolling resistance,” he says. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is getting ready to unveil spliceless technology on its UniCircle retreaded tires for fleet customers running widebase singles. It’s part of the company’s dedication to improving its product portfolio, says Todd Labbe, manager of business development-retreading. “End users can expect lasting strength from seamless UniCircle construction, as well as even treadwear and low rolling resistance due to the uniform retread characteristics and dimensions. The end result is cost-efficient performance for our FOR MORE INFORMATION, fleet customers.” VISIT THESE WEB SITES: The company’s new Gold Medallion BF Goodrich Truck Tires retreads offer “prewww.bfgoodrichtrucktires.com mium casing speciBridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions fications required by www.trucktires.com large national fleets and provide options Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for fleets to purchase www.goodyear.com/truck retreads rather than new tires to reduce Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. costs over the road,” www.herculestire.com Labbe adds.
