Not-so-spare parts

T

The carrying cost for spare parts is a significant line item on any fleet’s profit and loss statement. Yet not having the right parts on hand increases vehicle downtime, with that lost productivity eating up the cost savings that slashing spare parts inventory created in the first place. So balancing the need to lower inventory while ensuring the right parts stay on hand is the tricky high-wire act fleets need to balance. David Wangler, president and CEO of TMW Systems, touched Proper management on that very theme last month at of parts can save big the software firm’s annual user conference. “The best-run shops money for fleets. recognized early on that simply reducing inventory levels across the board would lead to more open jobs waiting on parts, leaving unproductive vehicles taking up shop space, and causing technicians to lose productivity as they bounced from one uncompleted job to the next, waiting for missing parts to show up,” he said. Not everyone can afford software to manage parts inventory, as we all know, but there are new options. For example, contributing editor David Cullen reported that Paccar, parent of both Kenworth and Peterbilt, tweaked its online PremierCare and TruckCare Connect web-based systems into four distinct packages, enabling fleets to pick the amount of functionality they need and are willing to pay for when it comes to parts management. By connecting fleets directly to dealerships, this amounts to a low-cost way to outsource parts management. There’s even an “express” version for small fleets. Now that’s smart parts management. AT

he Permalogic Selector System, designed by Phillips Industries for refrigerated trailers, pulls power from truck batteries or from the refrigeration unit to make sure liftgate batteries remain charged and the liftgate operating throughout a route. The Permalogic system is integrated into a sealed junction box at the nose of the trailer. A dual pole socket senses which power source— the truck battery or the refrigeration

unit—is most ideal for charging the liftgate batteries, according to the company. It will direct the charge to a DC-to-DC converter, boosting the voltage to 14.4 to accelerate the charge between deliveries. The liftgate will remain powered even when the trailer is not connected to a tractor, Phillips said, because it can pull power from the refrigeration unit as well. www.phillipsind.com

Wheel and online calculator released

A

lcoa Wheel and Transportation Products has released a new 14-in. wide-base wheel as well as a web-based tool that calculates return on investment for wheel options based on basic criteria entered by the fleet. The LvL One wheel cuts 8 lbs. from competitive aluminum wheel options, the company said. It weighs just 62 lbs. and can result in as much as a 7% fuel savings for a long-haul truck, Alcoa said. The wheel is also six times as bright as competitive wheels in its class with a 50-brightness rating using standardized test methods for high-gloss surfaces. The CalcuLighter provides financial data when comparing steel and

aluminum wheels, duals vs. wide base, or any combination thereof, all by entering basic operational needs. CalcuLighter calculates fuel, payload and tire life data as well as Truck Blue Book trade-in value, scrap value, wheel maintenance information and even the carbon footprint differences between wheel alternatives. Users input their fleet profile, choose the wheel alternatives they want to compare, and some other basic information such as power units, trailers and dollies. The results change as new information is input. www.alcoawheels.com

Alternators for Ford vehicles

Navistar offers GAP coverage M N

avistar Financial Corp. is offering a new financial program called Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) to aid owners of Navistarbranded trucks in case their vehicle is destroyed. The company said the GAP coverage plan protects customers that suffer a total loss of a vehicle by waiving the difference between the amount owed on the vehicle and the proceeds paid by the customer’s physical damage insurance provider.

“We’re committed to providing the financing products and services that our customers need to operate their businesses, and GAP is especially valuable in today’s marketplace where used trucks are valued at relatively low amounts,” said Trish Reed, vp-business operations for Navistar Financial. “GAP coverage helps customers to lower their risk and gain peace of mind in knowing that they are protecting their vehicle investment.” www.navistarfinancial.com

ilver Eagle Manufacturing’s mid-length side skirt has become the company’s first EPA SmartWaycertified product. The skirt has been verified as a SmartWay aerodynamic product that offers fuel savings to long-haul trucks. In addition, the company is offering a limited lifetime warranty for all skirts shipped after Sept. 1 of this year. The side skirts, which offer a dual-walled design, mount to the underside of the trailer. The product also complies with California Air Resources Board legislation requiring 2011 model-year 53-ft. trailers to have aerodynamic devices installed by January 2010, according to Silver Eagle. All other trailers, regardless of model year, must meet the requirements by the end of 2012. “We are thrilled to have our first SmartWay certification,” said Jay Wilson, president & CEO. “This is the first in a large offering of innovative aerodynamic products we will be launching throughout the remainder of 2009 and 2010 to help long-haul truckers save on fuel costs and gain a quick return on investment.” www.silvereaglemfg.com

he familiar bright-yellow color scheme on Kinedyne’s cargo straps is no more. Instead, to align with global initiatives, the company has changed the color scheme to include black edges, goldcolor webbing and a new stencil pattern on many of its most popular strap assemblies. “We’ve introduced this color change on our strap assemblies in an effort to develop a standard product that we can sell to our markets worldwide,” said Jim Calico, Kinedyne’s vp-sales and marketing. “The gold webbing with black edges has been sold to our customers in Canada for years; now, we’re making it our global standard. This new color scheme also serves as a differentiator vs. some of our competitors.” The changes include the new color pattern on most of the 2-, 3and 4-in.-wide strap assemblies

Kinedyne straps will now carry a gold with black edges color scheme. along with gold-color webbing on all 2-, 3- and 4-in.-wide winch and ratchet strap assemblies. The stencil pattern will include the “Working Load Limit” (WLL) of the assembly in both pounds and kilograms and the Kinedyne logo. By printing the WLL directly on the webbing, it will allow drivers the opportunity to fully utilize the weight limit requirements of the strap. Currently, straps with missing or illegible tags are automatically downgraded to a WLL limit of 1,000 psi of width. www.kinedyne.com

tech in trucking Heating, a/c units installed

Don’t be afraid of the black box F

leets, insurance companies and OEMs alike are getting on the black box bandwagon, increasingly viewing such devices as a way to lower costs, improve vehicle performance, and most importantly, proactively rein in potentially harmful driving habits before they lead to accidents. “These systems allow us to ‘score’ commercial drivers, to determine with concrete evidence those that are good and those that need training, then correlate that information back to insurance rates to get discounts,” said Mike Slattery, spokesperson for Liberty Mutual Agency Markets. Liberty Mutual is rolling out a system called Onboard Advisor to monitor the behavior of commercial vehicle operators in relation to conditions such as traffic flow and weather. Vehicle performance data is combined with roadway information gleaned from GE Security’s NavLogix GPS technology to record vehicle speed, braking and cornering maneuvers as well as to overlay Google street maps with secondby-second detail.

T

Black boxes monitor truck and driver behavior.

Fleets that install Onboard Advisor can realize savings of up to 15% in the first year and up to 40% based on fleet performance upon coverage renewal through most of Liberty’s eight regional companies. Many fleets are pushing for the introduction of black box technology, largely as a way to spot problem areas before they become bigger issues. The key with black box data, however, is that it can cut two ways, both to defend and incriminate a fleet, Darry Stuart, president of DWS Fleet Management, said. But if the technology is priced reasonably, fleets should still consider installing it. “Frankly, it’s the lack of information, good or bad, that leaves a fleet more exposed,” explained Stuart,

14 American Trucker/ r/November 2009

who’s served as an expert witness in court on cases dealing with black box data. “Make no mistake, such data can be crucifying. But you have a better chance of defending yourself against information that you know, versus information from a third party that’s unknown,” he said. At the end of the day, it’s all about allowing trucking companies to take a more active and immediate role in risk management, said Thomas Troy, executive vp and COO of Liberty’s Regional Companies Group. “It puts a fleet manager in the driver’s seat of every vehicle with daily, biweekly, and monthly performance tracking. It’s a great coaching tool for improving and rewarding safe driving.”

new hydraulic braking and propulsion system from Recaptured Energy Technologies (RET) promises to reduce fuel consumption while cutting emissions. The system is a retrofit technology available for most vehicles. “The unique benefit of our system is that it can

be retrofit to existing vehicles, so there is no need to purchase new alternative-energy vehicles that may not provide anticipated fuel economy,” said Sam Jones, president. “Because the system is specifically designed to be retrofit, existing vehicles will see lower emissions, less engine man-

ith new FMCSA regulations that allow inspectors to request GPS data for drivers whenever an audit of a GPS-equipped vehicle is conducted, it’s become more important than ever for fleets to ensure their drivers remain in compliance. But the old way of manually auditing GPS logs was time-consuming and could take as many as four hours or more to audit 30 days of GPS history against the logs of a single driver, according to solutions provider RAIR Technologies. To combat this, RAIR said that’s why it has introduced a web-based solution that checks a driver’s record of duty status and

aunched the SmartWay program in s to reduce emissions that can be dio the transportation industry. Besides the obvious marketing advantages for companies to “go green,” small fleets could benefit from innovative financing that makes SmartWay technology more accessible. In fact, the EPA reannounced Scrap-tire disposal cently that $20 million in Act fundremains a serious Recovery ing will be awarded the Clean Diesel issue for trucking to Finance Program, with an additional $10 million to be awarded in the future. While it doesn’t constitute a slew of guaranteed Federal loans, it’s still a move in the right direction to reduce emissions and proves that the EPA is serious about SmartWay. Fuel efficiency and reduced emissions are just part of the green movement in the tire industry. New tire and retread manufacturers are constantly working to minimize the carbon footprint on a process that requires a constant supply of energy. It’s also important to note that most tire companies have already found ways to reduce or eliminate their dependence on petrochemical products and oils. Manufacturing a radial truck tire is hardly a “green” process, but the environmental impact today is a lot smaller than it was a decade or two ago. Another area where the tire and retread industry has become more environmentally friendly is recycling. At one time, the tire buffing “dust” that is created during the retread process represented an expense for retreaders. With the growing interest in anything that features recycled materials, those same companies are now selling the crumb rubber to companies that manufacture

18 American Trucker/ r/November 2009

rubber mats, playground surfaces and other products. Tire recycling has advanced to the point where sending scrap tires to the landfill is uncommon since the alternatives can lower costs and create revenue. Unfortunately, tire dumping continues to be a problem despite government efforts to enforce existing hazardous waste regulations. In most states, scrap tire haulers must be licensed to pick up and deliver tires to an approved facility for disposal or processing. Fleets definitely expect scrap tires to be handled responsibly, given the fees that accompany each tire after it is removed from service. But there is no guarantee that the tires won’t end up in an illegal tire dump—and that represents serious liability for many fleets. Another EPA initiative is the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, or the Superfund law. It states that any potentially responsible party (PRP) may be held liable for the entire cleanup of a site even if the illegal dumping took place prior to enactment in 1980. A PRP “cannot simply say that it was not negligent or that it was operating according to industry standards.” If the EPA can prove the PRP sent hazardous waste to a site, it will be held liable. Most fleets don’t deal with tire haulers or recyclers directly because the tire dealer or retreader handles scrap tire disposal. Sadly, a fleet can pay thousands of dollars to properly dispose of tires only to find out that the tire dealer used a vendor that illegally dumped the waste and ran off with the money. The tire dealer and all of its fleet customers will ultimately be held responsible because in the end, someone has to pay—and Superfund ensures that it won’t be the taxpayers.

Oil filters I

t’s no secret that the tightening of emissions regulations that occurred in 2002 and 2007—with one more phase to go in 2010—has increased the strain on engine oils; so much so that a new diesel engine oil service category, API CJ-4, had to be introduced for 2007-compliant engine models. The reason for the new engine oil category and, by extension, for new engine oil filtration products, is that more contaminants are getting into the oil as a by-product of emissions control systems, most notably exhaust gas recirculation [EGR], which returns cooled exhaust back into the engine to eliminate soot particles. That process, however, also tends to increase the level of soot in engine oil, requiring better filtration to remove it. That particular challenge posed by emissions regulations isn’t going away in 2010, says Phillip Johnson, director of liquid filtration and new business development at Donaldson Co. A study he helped author predicts that by 2010, diesel injection systems will require filtration efficiency levels below 5 microns, significantly cleaner than technology allows today. That’s an issue that also impacts oil filtration. Cummins Filtration notes that lube oil is an essential element in the life of any truck engine as, among other things, it lubricates, cools, cleans, protects and seals engine components. Over time, contamination is introduced into the lube system through the combustion process, engine wear, and spent additives. With the addition of clean air standards, more contaminant tends to enter the combustion chamber, making lube filtration more important than ever. As a result, oil filtration products are increasingly being designed to function as part of a “system,” with input from various sources, rather than as a single isolated component with a focus on new standards and new “systems” technologies to measure fine particulate and other contaminants, says Johnson. “Stakeholders, such as fuel companies, distributors, suppliers, engine manufacturers and filter companies, can no longer work in solo environments within the

supply chain to meet filtration requirements for engine manufacturers,” he explains. “Filtration solutions will need to take a ‘systems’ approach where we work in collaboration to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction.” That means bringing more options to the table when it comes to oil filtration product design, something every manufacturer of such products is trying to accomplish. For example, Wix Filters developed and produced 311 new filters from Jan. 1 through July 29 just this year, including 115 premium light-duty filters, 165 premium heavy-duty filters and 31 opening price point filters. “We’re continuing with a broad emphasis on premium filters for light-duty foreign nameplate brands and heavy-duty applications,” says Patrick Enniss, product development manager. “Our engineers and product developers have been working tirelessly to develop and put into production more than one new filter every day this year.”

In general, the casing isn’t aware of the wheel position it is in, but the tread design and features can enhance the performance of the tire in a certain position.” “Total cost of ownership is far more important than the acquisition price alone,” points out Rick Phillips, manager of commercial sales for Yokohama Tire Corp. “Whether you’re an owner-operator or a director of maintenance for a top 100 fleet, it’s critical to get the right tire for your specific application and not just the deal of the day. Commercial truck tires are an investment and like all investments, if done properly, they will provide a healthy return. “A quality product that performs well will cost less over time than a cheaper tire that doesn’t meet the needs of the operation,” adds Phillips. “Some products are engineered and designed to lower a fleet’s cost per mile, and some are simply built to deliver a lower upfront price. It’s important to choose wisely.” Mark S. Roe, commercial tire manager for Hankook Tire Amer-

ica Corp., suggests that “having an open mind on testing a variety of tires from various manufacturers is the way to go. While the ‘Big Three’ [Bridgestone, Goodyear and Michelin] make wonderful products, the second-tier manufacturers have made huge strides in producing products that are second to none.” The pickings certainly are not slim these days, says Tim Miller, Goodyear marketing communications manager. “Thirty years ago, all the manufacturers offered a handful of radials for trucking,” he relates. “Now, it’s like buying cereal or shampoo. The choices are by wheel position as well as by vehicle type and duty application. Since there

are so many more choices, the fleet buyer—and the tire salesperson for that matter—need to be more educated to pick the right tire for the job to get the most value.” Curtis Decker, senior engineerproduct development for Continental Tire North America, points out that if fleets become more nimble to meet market demands, they should not overlook the impact of such changes on tires. “Some fleets are stretching the boundaries, if you will, to haul different freight than their trucks were spec’d for— such as running longer distances on regional-service tires.” Decker suggests auditing the fleet to ensure the right tires are being used. He also advises staying on top of trade cycles. “Trucks that are no longer being traded every three years, for example, may need a tire change before the vehicle leaves the fleet.” He says if that’s the case, it could be more economical to switch—from the start—to more fuel-efficient tires. “The return on fuel would beat trying to extend out the [life of] deep-tread tires.” And don’t buy more tire than you need. “Don’t overstate your traction needs,” says Decker. “How much does the truck actually travel on the road? Too much of a good thing could cost you in terms of tire

AIR POWER Keeping tires properly inflated is about as basic as it gets, yet tire suppliers find fleets just don’t pay enough attention to this critical matter. “There’s no substitute for putting air in the tire,” says Goodyear’s Miller. “That should be the first step when inspecting the tire.” Michelin’s Jones concurs, stressing that tire-pressure maintenance is “the first thing fleets must have in place when developing a tire management program. A program should include targeted pressures for the tires, periodic checks of air pressure, calibrated air pressure gauges, a master gauge and trained employees willing to diligently check the pressures. No one can tell by touch—or the trusty ‘tire kick’—when tires are low. Always use a proper pressure gauge. “Following the instructions on the data plate on the truck is also key to ensuring tires have the correct air pressure for the loads being carried,” he continues. “If a fleet has nothing else but a good air pressure maintenance program, it will reap substantial benefits over having no program at all.” Bridgestone’s Walenga says

“maintaining air pressure is where fleets can invest a little and gain a lot over the long term; it’s basic, basic, basic maintenance.” He points out that there is a straightforward solution available that fleets can use to make dealing with tire inflation much less labor-intensive. “Consider using flow-through valve caps,” he advises. “There are only a few makers of this product and each cap costs maybe 50 cents. They are metal double-check valves with spring-loaded seals so you do not have to take them off to check pressure or add air. Using them will make checking and adjusting air pressure dramatically faster. Remember, proper pressure is key to maintaining both the tire’s original tread and its casing.” Walenga adds that the various systems offered to maintain tire pressure automatically are “a real good addition to trailers, whose tires always seem to get less attention, to protect tire life. But these are hightech systems that require maintenance and oversight. And to be sure, trailer tire pressure should still be checked with a gauge periodically. “The results from launching a tire inflation-check program will be seen in six months,” adds Walenga. “But backing off such an effort will negatively affect tires within just 30

Go to

to 60 days.” According to Yokohama’s Phillips, tires are “manufactured to produce a certain footprint on the road and if the air pressure is not correct, that footprint becomes distorted, which causes the tire to work harder and run hotter. And that causes the truck to burn more fuel and the tire to eventually exhibit irregular tread wear. Underinflation by 20% can decrease the overall tire life by more than 30%.” Hankook’s Roe figures that just keeping up with air pressure “could save the majority of medium to large fleets thousands of dollars monthly. This is the one item that frankly is out of control, yet is the easiest to control. I see mechanics and drivers bumping tires on a daily basis. What does that tell you? It simply has air! Yet a $15 air gauge will tell you what you truly need to know.’’ He notes that overlooking inflation can “cause major premature wear and potentially very costly road calls.”

TOP TIPS Beyond inflation control, there are a number of strategies fleets can implement in their shops or insist be performed by tire dealers or other maintenance providers. “After inflation, proper total vehicle alignment is the second most important piece of maintenance affecting tire life,” says Yokohama’s Phillips. “If vehicle alignment is off, it can create irregular tread wear that results in tires being removed sooner than planned,” says Double Coin’s Murphy. “Even if that casing is then retreaded, you did not get the most out of that asset in terms of original tread life.” Goodyear’s Miller says the alignment of axles by toe and camber is essential. “Drives need to be parallel to each other and perpendicular

Trucker.com for used equipment listings

cover story to the frame to help tires last longer,” he explains. “Periodic inspections to discover uneven tread wear patterns will indicate the need for alignment. Inspections need to be about more than finding nails. Maintenance personnel should be trained to spot wear patterns that can indicate problems on the vehicle itself.” Bridgestone’s Walenga stresses the importance of the tire/wheel assembly process. “The tire must be properly mounted to the wheel and the assembly to the vehicle or the truck will not roll down the road properly. You might not feel any difference right away, but it will start to wear out-of-round. The idea is to put the tire into position to get the most out of it in the first place. “Vehicle alignment is also essential,” he continues. “When you are driving down the road, you should not see the trailer. Steer tires get worn out first and they are a pretty expensive way to detect misalignment. Instead, check and adjust alignment on a regular basis. The most expensive approach is to check it at every PM, but I favor checking it whenever the steers are changed. Also, trailer toe should be checked regularly, perhaps on a calendar basis.” Jones points out that “if a fleet does not have the time or resources to set up and run a tire management program, there are many reliable outlets that can help. Many fleets outsource this work or enlist the service of tire dealers or manufacturers. To make any program work, it must include dedicated and trained personnel.” Hankook’s Roe says basic tire maintenance is fundamental to controlling operating costs. “If you have a quality maintenance program, your tires will last longer. I challenge any fleet, regardless of size, with a marginal program to partner with a dealer that provides an all-

Go to

out tire maintenance program— [one that includes] fleet checks/retreads, new tire reporting/scrap tire analysis and so on,” Roe says. “Their overall downtime and annual tire cost will drop dramatically. With that said, yes, technology is so very important, but everyone involved has to do their part to see the true results of the manufacturer’s technology efforts.” “Don’t let the economy force you to skip maintenance,” cautions Continental’s Decker. “Holding off on alignment and shock changeouts will increase irregular wear and end up costing more in the long run.”

REPEAT BUSINESS “Retreading is the most costeffective way to utilize your tire assets,” explains Hankook’s Roe. He notes that most tire makers and retreaders offer a variety of casing and retread warranties, and, in Hankook’s case at least, “a retread rubber allowance on remaining tread depth.” Michelin’s Jones contends that “the quality and reliability of retreads makes them something every fleet should consider. Retreading presents a significant cost reduction rather than replacing a tire with a new one.” He says the latest retread operations deploy such technologies as electronic liner inspections, advanced x-ray

Trucker.com for used equipment listings

systems and casing integrity analyzers to ensure a tire casing is fit to be retreaded. “Because of the rigors of certain applications, fleets should spec high-quality tires, whose casing durability would be better able to withstand the retreading process, provided the tires are properly maintained throughout their first ‘life,’’’ Jones adds. “Thanks to technological advances, retreading has improved over the past 20 years,” points out Goodyear’s Miller. “What’s more, a retread costs one-third the price of a new tire. It’s the ‘green’ way to go as you are not throwing away a casing, and the performance—in terms of 32nds of wear—should be just as good or even better than that of a new tire.” Yokohama’s Phillips argues that “if you’ve made the right choice in selecting a quality product and have been diligent with your maintenance program, retreading the tire will provide additional service cycles, further lowering the total cost of the tire. Retreading the casing is not only cost-effective but environmentally responsible.” “Fleets can go a long way toward reducing their tire costs by controlling all of the elements they can control,” adds Phillips. “Tire maintenance, vehicle inspections and repairs, as well as driver education and training, all have huge impacts on the bottom line.’’ AT

f driving over and around hills and valleys is your idea of fun, then the economic outlook for 2010 is probably your cup of tea. In other words, the economy is going to muddle through the next year with increases in manufacturing and freight volume followed by dips, followed by a slight increase, followed by another decline and then repeating this scenario. One of our greatest costs is fuel— and it’s more than likely to act like a rocket headed to the moon. As the economy begins to improve, other large economies will begin consuming more oil, particularly diesel. The middle class in India and China will be acquiring more and more automobiles, and more fuel will be diverted in the direction of those consumers. So the bot-

tom line is that we’ll be bouncing along the economic bottom for the foreseeable future. The government has stated that the recession is over, but don’t expect unemployment to abate anytime soon; in fact, it will probably get worse before it gets better. Where’s the good news in all of this? If you are still in operation, give yourself a big pat on the back for a job well done. This has been one of the toughest recessions in trucking in the past 30 years. And to still be standing is a major accomplishment. To survive, you’ve become a lean, mean trucking machine, and you’ve learned how to cut costs, even in places where you didn’t think it possible. You’ve worked with your shippers, brokers and customers to help each other make it through

to the other side of the recession. Restraint has become the key approach for everything from purchasing equipment to borrowing money, from hiring to firing decisions. And, most importantly, you’ve learned how to do more with less. The good news is that with all the valuable and sometimes expensive lessons you’ve learned, you must remember to continue to apply those lessons going forward into 2010. As we ease into 2010, don’t indulge in false hopes. It’s going to be imperative that you keep close tabs on the markets you serve. Just because someone in Washington tells us the “Great Recession” has ended doesn’t mean it will have ceased in the sectors in which you’re doing business. Remember the last time we had an economy drop like this?

Surviving 2010

It was called the Great Depression, and although we can be thankful we haven’t reached the depth of what happened in the 1930s, it’s the only economic experience we have with which to compare what we’ve been through this time. With that said, we must remember that after the 1936 election, the Roosevelt Administration declared the Great Depression over. The government went back to reducing the deficit and reducing government spending. The country was on its way out of the Depression. But in just a single year, 1937 to 1938, the stock market lost 49% of its gains since 1934. National unemployment was 25% at its height; by 1937 it had declined to just over 14% before jumping back to 19% in 1938. And after four straight years of economic growth between 1934 and 1937, 1938 saw the economy shrink by over 6%. Optimism is very important to help us get through these difficult times, but common sense is what assures our successful arrival. Beware of premature declarations of the death of the Great Recession. In an election year,

reports of the demise of the recession may be greatly exaggerated by politicians looking for re-election kudos in 2010. Just like we didn’t know until sometime this summer that the Great Recession started in December 2007, we also won’t know for several months that we have emerged. THE ONLY SIX-PACK GUARANTEED TO LAST TWO YEARS.

PowerPacks are fully backed by a no-hassle, two-year/150,000-mile warranty when installed at your authorized Detroit Diesel service outlet. When one fuel injector wears out, the other five usually aren’t far behind. That’s why installing Detroit Diesel PowerPacks, a set of six reliabilt® fuel injectors, as a regular maintenance item just makes good business sense. You’ll maximize engine performance, increase fuel efficiency and avoid the added costs of labor, parts and downtime. And with our extended two-year warranty, you can count on Detroit Diesel genuine remanufactured parts to work just like new. PowerPacks – anything less doesn’t make sense.
