Talk of the Town A Warm Welcome to The Park Stadium
Good afternoon and welcome to The Park Stadium for this home encounter with Brimsdown. An extended warm welcome to the management, players and officials of Brimsdown, as well as to tonight’s match officials. Today’s match ends the run of 5 consecutive home matches for Ampthill Town. A run of matches that has resulted in a win, a draw and two defeats. The win coming against Park View and the draw was a match that ended 2-2 with Shefford Town & Campton. Sandwiched between the 3-1 win against Park View and the 3-1 defeat to Milton Keynes Robins was a cup tie against Stotfold that the Amps lost 1-0. The home defeat to Stotfold in the Division One Cup means the Amps only remaining cup involvement this season is in the North Beds Charity Cup and the League Challenge Trophy. Today’s teams met in the League Challenge Trophy back at the end of October; a match which saw the Amps run out 9-0 winners. Since that League Challenge Trophy meeting here, Brimsdown have played four consecutive away matches, with today’s match being their sixth and final away game as they host Amersham Town next Saturday.
Excluding Buckingham Athletic who had their home match postponed last weekend, Amersham Town and Ampthill Town have played the fewest number of league matches this season, 13. The withdrawal of Wodson Park explains why the Amps have played 2 fewer matches than most teams in the division, but to have one team play 5 consecutive home matches (a cup match in that run) and another 6 away matches (2 cup matches in that run) seems to have been avoidable and will result in both teams facing the opposite in the coming months. As the current fixture list stands the Amps will now face 3 consecutive away trips, although due to the Amersham Town/ London Tigers groundshare they will only visit 2 different venues. Visiting tenants London Tigers on 30th November and then landlords Amersham Town 7 days later. The other match is an away North Beds Charity Cup tie at McMullen Park, the home of fellow Division One side Bedford FC. No matter how the fixtures fall, we will play every team twice in the league. Maybe. As always, your support is greatly appreciated, and here’s to you leaving The Park Stadium having been fully entertained. Enjoy the match. Up the Amps!

Amps On The Road... Away Day Match Reports 26th October 2019 League St Panteleimon 2 Ampthill Town 2 The Amps headed for Berkeley Fields having been beaten by fellow Beds side Langford 4-1 the previous Saturday. The hosts were unbeaten going into this encounter and would have lost for the first time this season, if it wasn’t for a late equaliser. Kieran Brasier had made the step up from the development side, whilst Ryan Wing had been promoted to the senior side and came off the bench. The Amps goals coming courtesy of Ash Mead and a first for the club for Lawrence Burton.
So many questions, too “little” time...
Saturday 2nd November 2019 League
Enfield Borough 3 Ampthill Town 6 Match Review by Chairman Gary Maidment 1-0 - Amps take the lead on 10 mins; long clearance from Tompkins assisted by conditions and it’s spilled by the Enfield keeper and Jamie Cerminara pounces for his first of the day. 2-0 - 15 mins in and a shot from the edge of the area is parried by Enfield 5 and ref awards a penalty; converted by Jamie Cerminara. 2-1 - 22 mins and a counter by Enfield catches Amps out and a low shot to the corner beats the GK. 2-2 - 30 mins. Amps play for offside, not given and Enfield level from their tricky winger who shots high into corner. 3-2 Amps - Saunders bursts through and is brought down on edge of box . Free kick taken by Jamie Cerminara low into left hand corner. 4-2 35 mins. Good possession from Amps, they work the ball out to Burton who burns the defender to drive the ball across the Enfield goal to be met by JC. HT 4-2 Amps 5-2 - 50 mins and it’s that man again; Cerminara receives the ball in the box, evades two tackles and fires the ball low into the net from 15 yards. 6-2 - 60 mins, solid work in midfield, a ball out to Saunders who then finds Cerminara on the penalty spot, he turns his marker and slots low to the keepers right. 6-3 80 mins, after dominating for the last hour the Amps take a breather and Enfield enjoy some possession. Amps keep them at bay but a corner is caught by the wind and swirls into net from a challenge from Enfield 9. FT 6-3 Amps. A thoroughly well deserved win for Amps who controlled the match from start to finish, great performance all round but a double Hattie from Cerminara has got to be congratulated - take a bow son.

Brimsdown Football Club was established in 2013 when Lee Okugbeni, then manager of the Kentish Town under-18 team, wanted the squad to progress to adult football; they were subsequently admitted to Division Two of the Spartan South Midlands League for the 2013–14 season. The club finished second-from-bottom of the division in their first season, but the 2014–15 season saw them finish much higher, in fourth position. However, Hale Leys United and Kent Athletic, who had finished first and second respectively, were unable to take promotion due to inadequate grounds, allowing Brimsdown to take promotion to Division One.

The club initially played on the second pitch at the Downs in Enfield, before moving to Goldsdown Road in 2014 after Enfield 1893 vacated the ground. In 2015–6 they groundshared at Enfield Town's Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, before moving to Haringey Borough's Coles Park in Tottenham in 2016, and then Ware's Wodson Park in 2018, where they play to this day. Brimsdown’s highest league position was achieved when they finished 11th in Spartan South Midlands League Division One in the 2017–18 season. Their best FA Vase performance was in the 2015-16 season when they got to the Second qualifying round.

Development Corner Latest News from The Dev The Ampthill Town Development side have continued to go from strength to strength as they last tasted defeat back in the first weekend of October. An excellent away win at Cranfield United Reserves has been followed up with 3 further wins, all at The Park Stadium.
A 4-2 win at home to Kempston Athletic has booked them place in the Beds FA Intermediate Cup Quarter Final. The draw has been made and the Ampthill Town Development side travel to Totternhoe Reserves today. The Amps opponents are a couple of places below them in the league table and a good performance will be required if the Town Dev want to be in the hat for the semi-final draw. That cup win was followed up with a home win against Stotfold Development in the league, with a free weekend separating the matches due to a postponement. The only goal of the match against Stotfold Dev was scored by Jack Fuller after 9 minutes. The Amps Dev wasted many chances to increase their lead but in the end a narrow home win was probably the deserved outcome. Jack Fuller is one of several development players to have made a first team appearance in recent weeks. Fuller started the home 2-2 draw against Shefford Town & Campton and followed this up with another start against Park View, this time playing in the side that secured a 3-1 home win. Another development player to taste first team football this season is Kieran Brasier. Brasier making his first appearance of the season away to unbeaten St Panteleimon, in a match that also ended 2-2.

Brasier, who started the season as the development side captain, obviously impressed during this showing as he has since gone on to start 4 of the last 5 first team matches. As well as Fuller and Brasier, another player that has started the season by putting in some excellent performances is Ryan Wing. Unsurprisingly his first appearances for the first team didn’t take long to come round and Wing appeared off the bench a couple of times before getting his first start. After coming on and scoring against Brimsdown in the League Challenge Trophy, Wing followed this up by starting the next 3 first team matches, games that ended with 2 wins and a draw. Completing the quartet is Tom Bates. He’s appeared from the bench 4 times and also started the match at home to St Panteleimon. With so many players making the step up to the first team the development team are definitely earning their name. Add to this their continued excellent results in the league, huge credit must go to Stuart Robertson and his coaching team. As well as to the players who continue to work hard to better themselves and push for first team football.
Ampthill Town Football Club The History Pages Ampthill Town Football Club dates back to the 1880’s, with reliable league records available from the 1950’s.
The club joined the South Midlands League at the start of the 1951/52 season; winning this league in 1959/60 (losing only two league matches all season) and were then runners-up in the following season. The Amps finished bottom of the South Midlands Premier Division in the 1964/65 season and started the following season in the United Counties League Division Two.
This prolonged stay ended at the end of the 1986/87 season when the club finished bottom of the league, winning just one match all season and finishing on a dreary 4 points (when it was 2 points for a win) and were relegated to UCL Div One. The club re-joined South Midlands League in Division One for the 1991/92 season. Then again as part of the reorganisation in 1993/94 Ampthill Town joined the newly formed Senior Division.
In 1997/98 the Amps were founder members of the Spartan South A few mid-table finishes followed and Midlands League Senior Division, but this season ended with relegation to at the end of the 1968/69 season, Division One with 16 points from 30 after a sixth place finish they were matches. promoted to UCL Division One. In 1972 the United Counties Division One was renamed the United Counties Premier Division. From the mid-seventies to the mid-eighties the club remained in the UCL Premier Division.
They bounced straight back and were promoted as runners-up, then followed this up with a runners-up place in the Senior Division at the end of the 1999/2000 season.
In 2001 the Senior Division was renamed Division One and this is where the club remained until 2011/12, when they finished runners up and were promoted to the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. A fifth-place finish was followed by collecting the runners up medals in 2013/14. The club went from finishing second, to finishing second bottom and were relegated to SSML Division One. Finishing fourteenth for 3 consecutive seasons. That run was ended last season (2018/19) with a tenth-place finish.
early part of the 2018/19 season soon dissipated as results improved immediately. In the closing couple of months of the campaign Town won seven of their last nine league games with their only defeats coming at champions Harefield United and Buckingham Athletic. Among their wins was an incredible 11-0 win over Broxbourne Borough with Jamie Cerminara scoring five and Brandon Carney four, including a second half hat-trick. Ampthill also made it to the North Beds Charity cup final where they lost to Biggleswade FC.

The 133rd AGM of The International Football Association Board (The IFAB) held in Aberdeen, Scotland on 2 March 2019 approved a number of amendments to, and clarifications of, the Laws of the Game for 2019/20. Three changes were approved following 2 years of worldwide experiments; •
The introduction of yellow and red cards for misconduct by team officials.
•
A player being substituted leaving the field at the nearest point on the boundary line.
•
A goal kick and a free kick for the defending team in their own penalty area, the ball is in play as soon the kick is taken (it can be played before it leaves the penalty area).
Other changes include:
Clearer wording for ‘handball’.
Attacking team players must be at least 1m away from a defensive ‘wall’.
The goalkeeper only has to have one foot on the goal line at a penalty kick.
New dropped ball procedure.
Substitutes – Law 3 A player who is being substituted must leave by the nearest point on the touchline/goal line. So players will now have to think twice about how they exit the pitch and, not only that, they must also make their way straight to the technical area or dressing room after being subbed, or risk being sanctioned for unsporting behaviour. Dropped Ball – Law 8 & 9 If play is stopped inside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for the goalkeeper. If play is stopped outside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for one player of the team that last touched the ball at the point of the last touch. In all cases, all the other players (of both teams) must be at least 4m (4.5yds) away. If the ball touches the referee (or another match official) and goes into the goal, team possession changes or a promising attack starts, a dropped ball is awarded. Handball – Law 12 Deliberate handball remains an offence. The following ‘handball’ situations, even if accidental, will be a free kick: 1. the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacking player’s hand/arm 2. a player gains control/possession of the ball after it has touches their hand/arm and then scores, or creates a goal-scoring opportunity 3. the ball touches a player’s hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally bigger 4. the ball touches a player’s hand/arm when it is above their shoulder (unless the player has deliberately played the ball which then touches their hand/arm)
Penalty Kick – Law 14 The team’s penalty taker can have (quick) treatment/assessment and then take the kick. The goalkeeper must not be touching the goalposts/crossbar/nets; they must not be moving.
The goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot on/in line with the goal line when the kick is taken; cannot stand behind the line. Goalkeepers are not permitted to stand in front of or behind the line. As the kicker can ‘stutter’ in the run, it is reasonable that the goalkeeper can take one step in anticipation of the kick.
Team Officials – Law 5 A team official guilty of misconduct will be shown a YC (caution) or RC (sending-off); if the offender cannot be identified, the senior coach who is in the technical area at the time will receive the YC/RC. Goal Kick – Law 16
The ball is in play once the kick is taken; it can be played before leaving the penalty area. Opponents must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play. Goal Celebrations – Law 12 A Yellow Card for an ‘illegal’ celebration (e.g. removing the shirt) remains even if the goal is disallowed.
Kick-Off – Law 8 The team that wins the toss can now choose to take the kick-off or which goal to attack (previously they only had the choice of which goal to attack) Medical Breaks – Law 7
Difference between ‘cooling’ breaks (90 secs – 3 mins) and ‘drinks’ breaks (max 1 min). In the interests of player safety, competition rules may allow, in certain weather conditions (e.g. high humidity and temperatures), ‘cooling’ breaks (from ninety seconds to three minutes) to allow the body’s temperature to fall; they are different from ‘drinks’ breaks (maximum one minute) which are for rehydration.
Players’ Equipment – Law 4 Multi-coloured/patterned undershirts are allowed if they are the same as the sleeve of the main shirt. Quick Free Kick and YC/RC – Law 12 If the referee is about to issue a YC/RC but the non-offending team takes the free kick quickly and creates a goal-scoring opportunity, the referee can delay the YC/RC until the next stoppage if the offending team was not distracted by the referee. Temporary Dismissals In addition to these law changes, the 2019/20 season will see the introduction of sin bins (formally named temporary dismissals) from step 5 (Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division level) down. These are explained in more detail on the next page.
