Talk of the Town A Warm Welcome to The Park Stadium Good afternoon and welcome to The Park Stadium for this home league encounter with London Tigers.

An extended warm welcome to the management, players and officials of London Tigers, as well as to today’s match officials. The cover photo for today’s programme was taken by Aaron Livo during our last home match here, when we beat Enfield Borough 1-0. Thanks to Aaron for giving us permission to use his photos. The Amps return here today having beaten Shefford Town & Campton last weekend. This was a very good win against one of the clubs that are pushing for a top 4 finish. Both of Ampthill’s goals were scored by Danny Butler. There was no midweek action for the Amps for a change. The importance of finishing in the top 4 is relevant this season in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One as the top 4 clubs are promoted to the Premier Division. Usually it is only the champions that are automatically promoted with the runners-up promoted too if their points per game ratio is strong enough compared to other step 6 clubs across the country, as was the case with Broadfields United last season.

league) but the finer details will not be known until the summer (when nationwide promotions and relegations are settled) and at this moment it wouldn't be prudent to suggest what league the Amps will be in next season. Although due to the geographical spread of this division now (Ampthill Town being one of the most central Northern teams in the division along with Bedford FC), clubs involved are located across several different counties and Ampthill Town can expect to be playing against several different clubs next season.

Going back to the excellent win last weekend, the Amps are now 14 points off 4th placed Shefford Town & Campton (who have played a few games more than the teams around them). As this division shows all the time, putting a string of positive results together can improve your positioning drastically and the pack continually reshuffles every week. Ampthill Town will be no higher than 8th after todays match, regardless of the winning margin due to the points difference to 7th, but closing the gap on 7th placed Rayners Lane is the aim. Rayners Park have to come to the Park Stadium in a few weeks time, by which time, the Amps could be right on their coat tails. But there’s lots of football to be played before that match.

The reason for promoting 4 clubs is because of a reorganisation that is planned in the summer across all leagues in England (with the added complexity of Bury FC).

As always, your support is greatly appreciated, and here’s to you leaving The Park Stadium having been fully entertained.

The broader details in SSML Division One are known (4 teams being promoted from this

Up the Amps!

Enjoy the match.

Amps On The Road... Away Day Match Reports 1st February 2020 League Shefford Town & Campton 0

Ampthill Town 2 The Amps went to higher placed Shefford Town & Campton and came away with all 3 points. Both goals were scored by Danny Butler, as he takes his league goals tally to 6 for the season. The win didn’t see Ampthill Town move any higher up the table but the gap to the teams higher up the table has been reduced as several of those teams dropped points.

Saturday 4th January 2020 League Milton Keynes 3 Ampthill Town 3 The Amps started 2020 with a 6 goal draw with near neighbours Milton Keynes Robins.

The hosts came into the encounter on the back of a 9 match winning streak, that included both league

and cup victories. Ampthill’s form going into this match was less impressive with no league win in the previous 4 matches. As everyone knows too well in the Spartan South Midlands League form counts for very little and it is all about application on the day that matters. The teams were level at 2-2 going into half time with both teams

adding an extra goal each in the second half. Ampthill’s goals were scored by Michael Moss, who hit a brace and Michael Fullerton who came off the bench to score. The hosts goal scorers were George Shrieves, Mason Spence (who also missed a penalty) and Vincent Shrieves (who saw the only caution of the match too).

Around the Club... Latest Club news

A couple of pieces of good news to share from around the club. Firstly, congratulations to First Team Assistant Manager Lee Hawkes (pictured right) who has completed his UEFA B License. Also congratulations to Ampthill Town U18’s who have reached the final of the League Cup. The report that follows is from their manager Paul Hankey about their semi-final match.

Ampthill U18 v Woburn and Wavendon U18 The 2 teams had met just the week before in a hard fought end to end match that ended 3-3. It was uncertain if the match would be played due to the heavy rain but late Friday the pitch inspection declared it fit to play. Both teams fancied their chances of progressing into the final. Woburn took an early lead and Dimbleby quickly equalised lifting the ball over the keeper, assisted by O’Donnell. Dimbleby came off injured and was replaced by Doherty who found himself on the score sheet twice, his first due to his hard work and high press and the second a tap in at the far post after a great assist from Bateson. Ampthill were 3-1 up but as half time approached Woburn scored again just on half time. 3-2. Second half Woburn came out strong and determined and equalised early on. The game became a battle with Woburn having the better chances. Ampthill made changes bringing O’Donnell back on. He started to create chances going forward and played the ball through to Harmer-Hankey who calmly slotted it past an advancing keeper. 4-3. Woburn tried to get back into the game and in doing so left themselves open to attack. Bateson played the ball up to Doherty who went around the keeper for his 3rd of the day. 5-3. Final score. Lots of good individual performances and a great team performance. Well done to captain Callum Wright who again led by example. Man of the match joe Doherty. Thanks to chairman Gary for making the pitch available. Ampthill U18’s now face Crawley Green in the final.

London Tigers began life in 1986, under the name Marylebone FC. This was run by a handful of dedicated volunteers with a passion for football, who organised training at North Westminster Upper School (now known as Westminster Academy). By the mid 90’s the membership and activities of the club became so diverse, there was a clear a need to set up formal structures and processes to ensure the legacy of the work within a quality assurance framework. London Tigers was therefore formed to cater for the health and sporting needs for people living in the North Westminster area. Two youth teams were set up who participated in the Lillie Road 5-a-side league. As the club grew and the young players became older, London Tigers joined mainstream leagues. In 2002 London Tigers FC joined the Middlesex County Premier League. During this time we won the Alex Smith Premier Divisions Cup 2006 and were one of the dominant teams in the league. In 2006, having achieved success in the Middlesex County League, London Tigers joined the Spartan South Midlands League, providing opportunities to inner city young players to play football at a more challenging semi-professional level. Along with the challenge of a new league came the amalgamation of London Tigers with Kingsbury Town FC and a new management team of Eddie Cardoso to take London Tigers forward as a united Kingsbury London Tigers FC.

Season 2016/17 started off with a new management team through a joint venture that saw London Tigers work with external partners for the first time. This proved to be a difficult process and saw significant shifts in structure and playing styles that impacted on the performance levels on the pitch. We stabilised the structure of the team in 2017/18 with a substantially new cohort of players and a new management team. Season 2018/19 begins with the structure cemented from a position of consolidation from last season with an established cohort of players and continuation of the management team, led by ex-Kosovo national team player, Naim Berisha. This season looks set to be an exciting year for London Tigers as we aim to progress from our upward curve from last season. After a long 2018/19 season which most London Tigers fans and staff would like to forget, due to being relegated on the last day of the season, we now find ourselves in Division 1. London Tigers FC have now recruited Jorge Gallardo as Manager and Christiano Goncalves as Coach of our First Team. They both bring huge football experience to the club. We welcome them to London Tigers and we hope their experience and hard work will bring London Tigers FC back in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

Development Corner Latest News from The Dev Last weekend the Development lost 3-5 to high flying Cranfield United Reserves.

There was much more the match than the result; having led 2-0, ill-discipline cost the development side the points as Elis Ralevic was sin-binned twice, resulting in his permanent removal from the match, with Aaron Matthews also sin-binned. With the final score line so close, manager Stuart Robertson was left wondering what might have been if the referee hadn’t been given the opportunity to use the sin bin. Ampthill Town Dev’s goals were scored by Tommy Jackson and a brace for captain Jack Fuller. Today’s cup match has been forfeited due to lack of available players. 31 Aug

Ampthill Town Football Club The History Pages Ampthill Town Football Club dates back to the 1880’s, with reliable league records available from the 1950’s.

The club joined the South Midlands League at the start of the 1951/52 season; winning this league in 1959/60 (losing only two league matches all season) and were then runners-up in the following season. The Amps finished bottom of the South Midlands Premier Division in the 1964/65 season and started the following season in the United Counties League Division Two.

This prolonged stay ended at the end of the 1986/87 season when the club finished bottom of the league, winning just one match all season and finishing on a dreary 4 points (when it was 2 points for a win) and were relegated to UCL Div One. The club re-joined South Midlands League in Division One for the 1991/92 season. Then again as part of the reorganisation in 1993/94 Ampthill Town joined the newly formed Senior Division.

In 1997/98 the Amps were founder members of the Spartan South A few mid-table finishes followed and Midlands League Senior Division, but this season ended with relegation to at the end of the 1968/69 season, Division One with 16 points from 30 after a sixth place finish they were matches. promoted to UCL Division One. In 1972 the United Counties Division One was renamed the United Counties Premier Division. From the mid-seventies to the mid-eighties the club remained in the UCL Premier Division.

They bounced straight back and were promoted as runners-up, then followed this up with a runners-up place in the Senior Division at the end of the 1999/2000 season.

In 2001 the Senior Division was renamed Division One and this is where the club remained until 2011/12, when they finished runners up and were promoted to the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. A fifth-place finish was followed by collecting the runners up medals in 2013/14. The club went from finishing second, to finishing second bottom and were relegated to SSML Division One. Finishing fourteenth for 3 consecutive seasons. That run was ended last season (2018/19) with a tenth-place finish.

early part of the 2018/19 season soon dissipated as results improved immediately. In the closing couple of months of the campaign Town won seven of their last nine league games with their only defeats coming at champions Harefield United and Buckingham Athletic. Among their wins was an incredible 11-0 win over Broxbourne Borough with Jamie Cerminara scoring five and Brandon Carney four, including a second half hat-trick. Ampthill also made it to the North Beds Charity cup final where they lost to Biggleswade FC.

Ampthill’s best FA Vase performance With 4 promotion places up for grabs to date is a quarter final appearance at the end of this season there will be in 2013/14 when losing to Eastbourne United Association. In the even greater emphasis on pushing same competition in 2017 they won onwards, as the club makes no 10-0 at New College Swindon. The introduction of yellow and red cards for misconduct by team officials.

A player being substituted leaving the field at the nearest point on the boundary line.

A goal kick and a free kick for the defending team in their own penalty area, the ball is in play as soon the kick is taken (it can be played before it leaves the penalty area).

Other changes include: 

Clearer wording for ‘handball’.

Attacking team players must be at least 1m away from a defensive ‘wall’.

The goalkeeper only has to have one foot on the goal line at a penalty kick.

New dropped ball procedure.

Substitutes – Law 3 A player who is being substituted must leave by the nearest point on the touchline/goal line. So players will now have to think twice about how they exit the pitch and, not only that, they must also make their way straight to the technical area or dressing room after being subbed, or risk being sanctioned for unsporting behaviour. Dropped Ball – Law 8 & 9 If play is stopped inside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for the goalkeeper. If play is stopped outside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for one player of the team that last touched the ball at the point of the last touch. In all cases, all the other players (of both teams) must be at least 4m (4.5yds) away. If the ball touches the referee (or another match official) and goes into the goal, team possession changes or a promising attack starts, a dropped ball is awarded. Handball – Law 12 Deliberate handball remains an offence. The following ‘handball’ situations, even if accidental, will be a free kick: 1. the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacking player’s hand/arm 2. a player gains control/possession of the ball after it has touches their hand/arm and then scores, or creates a goal-scoring opportunity 3. the ball touches a player’s hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally bigger 4. the ball touches a player’s hand/arm when it is above their shoulder (unless the player has deliberately played the ball which then touches their hand/arm)

Penalty Kick – Law 14 The team’s penalty taker can have (quick) treatment/assessment and then take the kick. The goalkeeper must not be touching the goalposts/crossbar/nets; they must not be moving.

The goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot on/in line with the goal line when the kick is taken; cannot stand behind the line. Goalkeepers are not permitted to stand in front of or behind the line. As the kicker can ‘stutter’ in the run, it is reasonable that the goalkeeper can take one step in anticipation of the kick.

Team Officials – Law 5 A team official guilty of misconduct will be shown a YC (caution) or RC (sending-off); if the offender cannot be identified, the senior coach who is in the technical area at the time will receive the YC/RC. Goal Kick – Law 16

The ball is in play once the kick is taken; it can be played before leaving the penalty area. Opponents must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play. Goal Celebrations – Law 12 A Yellow Card for an ‘illegal’ celebration (e.g. removing the shirt) remains even if the goal is disallowed.

Kick-Off – Law 8 The team that wins the toss can now choose to take the kick-off or which goal to attack (previously they only had the choice of which goal to attack) Medical Breaks – Law 7

Difference between ‘cooling’ breaks (90 secs – 3 mins) and ‘drinks’ breaks (max 1 min). In the interests of player safety, competition rules may allow, in certain weather conditions (e.g. high humidity and temperatures), ‘cooling’ breaks (from ninety seconds to three minutes) to allow the body’s temperature to fall; they are different from ‘drinks’ breaks (maximum one minute) which are for rehydration.

Players’ Equipment – Law 4 Multi-coloured/patterned undershirts are allowed if they are the same as the sleeve of the main shirt. Quick Free Kick and YC/RC – Law 12 If the referee is about to issue a YC/RC but the non-offending team takes the free kick quickly and creates a goal-scoring opportunity, the referee can delay the YC/RC until the next stoppage if the offending team was not distracted by the referee. Temporary Dismissals In addition to these law changes, the 2019/20 season will see the introduction of sin bins (formally named temporary dismissals) from step 5 (Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division level) down. These are explained in more detail on the next page.
