Talk of the Town A Warm Welcome to The Park Stadium Good afternoon and welcome to The Park Stadium for this home league encounter with Buckingham Athletic.

An extended warm welcome to the management, players and officials of Buckingham Athletic, as well as to today’s match officials. Since we were last gathered here the Amps have played 2 away league matches. Due to ground sharing arrangements both matches were played at Spratleys Meadow. Firstly a 2-0 away win against the tenants London Tigers. This was followed up by a 6-4 defeat to landlords Amersham Town. Whilst defeats are disappointing it is worth remembering that the club is going through a transition period as new manager Ant Christophi adapts to his new role as first team manager. Ant replaces Paul Blackman who resigned in mid-November and he will be supported by Lee Hawkes and Martin Powell. There have also been player movements as club captain Louie Dillon leaves the club to join Spartan South Midlands League Division One rivals Shefford Town & Campton. Also moving on is Glenn Cooksley. Glenn had been captaining the side over the past few weeks but has now transferred to Premier Division side Crawley Green. Both players leave with our best wishes.

The rest of the squad remains and are all committed to taking the club forward. This will be essential over the next few weeks as the Christmas period can shape how the clubs progresses in the early part of next year. This Tuesday the Amps travel to Premier Division side Potton United in the League Challenge Trophy, and return to the Park Stadium next Saturday for a league match against Bedford.

Either side of the New Year celebrations Town are on the road. A trip to Stotfold, which could potentially be our last ever visit to their soon-to-be demolished Roker Park ground, is followed by a visit to Milton Keynes Robins. As the schedule stands the Amps then have 2 free Saturday’s before welcoming Enfield Borough to the Park Stadium. Any postponements between now and then will put pay to those free weekends so don’t go booking your mid-January skiing trips just yet! As always, your support is greatly appreciated, and here’s to you leaving The Park Stadium having been fully entertained.

Enjoy the match. Up the Amps!

Amps On The Road... Away Day Match Reports 30th November 2019 League London Tigers 0

Ampthill Town 2 The Amps made the first of two consecutive trips to Spratleys Meadow and came away with all 3 points as they faced the tenants London Tigers. Both of the Amps goals were scored by Jamie Cerminara, as he netted his 14th and 15th league goals of the season. Going into this match the two sides were positioned close together in the league table but a goal for the Amps in either half of the match has meant that the gap has increased.

Saturday 7th December 2019 League Amersham Town 6 Ampthill Town 4 The return visit to Spratleys Meadow to face the landlords Amersham Town produced a lot more goals than the tie the week before, but this encounter saw the Amps leave with no points, despite netting on four occasions.

Jamie Cerminara added a couple more goals to this seasons tally as he has moved onto 17 league goals for the season, only a couple of goals behind the leagues top goal scorers. Also netting for the Amps was Jake Kissiedu who returned to the team after a few weeks out the starting line up. He has scored 3 league goals now this season, which is a

decent 50% strike rate in his 6 league appearances. Conrad Zylko scored for Town for the first time in the league since rejoining the Amps after a few years away at university. The goals for the hosts came courtesy of solo goals for Jack Aldridge and Josiah Johnson, added to by braces from both Reon Thomas and Alec Wallace.

The club was formed in 1933 as Buckingham Juniors, but it was three years before a ground was found, allowing the club to enter the Brackley and District League. In 1939 the club adopted its current name. In 1960–61 they won their first trophy, the North Bucks League Shield.

They subsequently moved up to Division One of the South Midlands League. They finished as runners -up in 1988–89, and although they were denied promotion, they were able to move up to the Premier Division in 1991 after winning Division One for a second time.

In 1965 Buckingham moved up to Division One of the Hellenic League. In their first season in the league they won the Bucks Junior Cup. After finishing as runners-up in 1968–69, the club were promoted to the Premier Division. They won the Buckingham Senior Charity Cup in 1969–70, but were relegated back to Division One after finishing bottom of the Premier Division in 1971–72. They remained in Division One until dropped back into the North Bucks League in 1979. The club won the Premier Division Shield in 1983–84, and went on to win the league title the following season, not losing a match.

Buckingham remained in the Premier Division until the league merged with the Spartan League in 1997, winning the Floodlit Trophy in 1996–97. Following the merger they were placed in the Premier Division North, and a tenth-place finish in the league's first season saw them become members of the Premier Division for the 1998–99 season. However, they took voluntary relegation to Division One at the end of the season; this became Division Two in 2001. The 2002– 03 season saw the club win Division Two, earning promotion to Division One. They finished as runnersup in 2004–05, but were not promoted.

Development Corner Latest News from The Dev The Ampthill Town Development team’s excellent form continues as the unbeaten run now stretches back as far as the first Saturday in October. As with all statistics this bold statement is slightly disjointed by the fact that 3 of those Saturday’s have resulted in the dev team not playing an actual match.

On Saturday 9th November they were due to travel to Bedford SA for a league match but this was postponed a few hours before kick-off as the pitch was deemed unplayable. Unfortunately due to the late decision there was no opportunity for the coaching team to arrange a friendly or book a venue for a training session. They did play a home match against Stotfold Development a week later. The only goal of the game was scored by Jack Fuller very early on which meant the dev gained the 3 points that saw them move up the table.

The next fortnight saw the Ampthill Dev not play on either Saturday but they did progress to the semifinal of the Beds FA Intermediate Cup. The original tie meant to be played at Totternhoe was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The following Saturday the pitch passed a late pitch inspection, as the quarter final tie was rescheduled at the expense of a league fixture, but the Amps ended up progressing as Totternhoe Reserves were unable to raise a side. The semi-final draw has been made and the Ampthill Dev side will face fellow Beds County Division One side Henlow on Saturday 15th February at home.

Last Saturday the dev beat Lea Sports PSG 2-1 with Tommy Jackson opening the scoring, Lea Sports equalising and then Jack Fuller winning the match with a late penalty. Today the Dev side are away to Sporting Lewsey Park, the last team to take maximum points off them.

Ampthill Town Football Club The History Pages Ampthill Town Football Club dates back to the 1880’s, with reliable league records available from the 1950’s.

The club joined the South Midlands League at the start of the 1951/52 season; winning this league in 1959/60 (losing only two league matches all season) and were then runners-up in the following season. The Amps finished bottom of the South Midlands Premier Division in the 1964/65 season and started the following season in the United Counties League Division Two.

This prolonged stay ended at the end of the 1986/87 season when the club finished bottom of the league, winning just one match all season and finishing on a dreary 4 points (when it was 2 points for a win) and were relegated to UCL Div One. The club re-joined South Midlands League in Division One for the 1991/92 season. Then again as part of the reorganisation in 1993/94 Ampthill Town joined the newly formed Senior Division.

In 1997/98 the Amps were founder members of the Spartan South A few mid-table finishes followed and Midlands League Senior Division, but this season ended with relegation to at the end of the 1968/69 season, Division One with 16 points from 30 after a sixth place finish they were matches. promoted to UCL Division One. In 1972 the United Counties Division One was renamed the United Counties Premier Division. From the mid-seventies to the mid-eighties the club remained in the UCL Premier Division.

They bounced straight back and were promoted as runners-up, then followed this up with a runners-up place in the Senior Division at the end of the 1999/2000 season.

In 2001 the Senior Division was renamed Division One and this is where the club remained until 2011/12, when they finished runners up and were promoted to the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. A fifth-place finish was followed by collecting the runners up medals in 2013/14. The club went from finishing second, to finishing second bottom and were relegated to SSML Division One. Finishing fourteenth for 3 consecutive seasons. That run was ended last season (2018/19) with a tenth-place finish.

early part of the 2018/19 season soon dissipated as results improved immediately. In the closing couple of months of the campaign Town won seven of their last nine league games with their only defeats coming at champions Harefield United and Buckingham Athletic. Among their wins was an incredible 11-0 win over Broxbourne Borough with Jamie Cerminara scoring five and Brandon Carney four, including a second half hat-trick. Ampthill also made it to the North Beds Charity cup final where they lost to Biggleswade FC.

Ampthill’s best FA Vase performance With 4 promotion places up for grabs to date is a quarter final appearance at the end of this season there will be in 2013/14 when losing to Eastbourne United Association. In the even greater emphasis on pushing same competition in 2017 they won onwards, as the club makes no 10-0 at New College Swindon. The 133rd AGM of The International Football Association Board (The IFAB) held in Aberdeen, Scotland on 2 March 2019 approved a number of amendments to, and clarifications of, the Laws of the Game for 2019/20. Three changes were approved following 2 years of worldwide experiments; •

The introduction of yellow and red cards for misconduct by team officials.

A player being substituted leaving the field at the nearest point on the boundary line.

A goal kick and a free kick for the defending team in their own penalty area, the ball is in play as soon the kick is taken (it can be played before it leaves the penalty area).

Other changes include: 

Clearer wording for ‘handball’.

Attacking team players must be at least 1m away from a defensive ‘wall’.

The goalkeeper only has to have one foot on the goal line at a penalty kick.

New dropped ball procedure.

Substitutes – Law 3 A player who is being substituted must leave by the nearest point on the touchline/goal line. So players will now have to think twice about how they exit the pitch and, not only that, they must also make their way straight to the technical area or dressing room after being subbed, or risk being sanctioned for unsporting behaviour. Dropped Ball – Law 8 & 9 If play is stopped inside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for the goalkeeper. If play is stopped outside the penalty area, the ball will be dropped for one player of the team that last touched the ball at the point of the last touch. In all cases, all the other players (of both teams) must be at least 4m (4.5yds) away. If the ball touches the referee (or another match official) and goes into the goal, team possession changes or a promising attack starts, a dropped ball is awarded. Handball – Law 12 Deliberate handball remains an offence. The following ‘handball’ situations, even if accidental, will be a free kick: 1. the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacking player’s hand/arm 2. a player gains control/possession of the ball after it has touches their hand/arm and then scores, or creates a goal-scoring opportunity 3. the ball touches a player’s hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally bigger 4. the ball touches a player’s hand/arm when it is above their shoulder (unless the player has deliberately played the ball which then touches their hand/arm)

Penalty Kick – Law 14 The team’s penalty taker can have (quick) treatment/assessment and then take the kick. The goalkeeper must not be touching the goalposts/crossbar/nets; they must not be moving.

The goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot on/in line with the goal line when the kick is taken; cannot stand behind the line. Goalkeepers are not permitted to stand in front of or behind the line. As the kicker can ‘stutter’ in the run, it is reasonable that the goalkeeper can take one step in anticipation of the kick.

Team Officials – Law 5 A team official guilty of misconduct will be shown a YC (caution) or RC (sending-off); if the offender cannot be identified, the senior coach who is in the technical area at the time will receive the YC/RC. Goal Kick – Law 16

The ball is in play once the kick is taken; it can be played before leaving the penalty area. Opponents must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play. Goal Celebrations – Law 12 A Yellow Card for an ‘illegal’ celebration (e.g. removing the shirt) remains even if the goal is disallowed.

Kick-Off – Law 8 The team that wins the toss can now choose to take the kick-off or which goal to attack (previously they only had the choice of which goal to attack) Medical Breaks – Law 7

Difference between ‘cooling’ breaks (90 secs – 3 mins) and ‘drinks’ breaks (max 1 min). In the interests of player safety, competition rules may allow, in certain weather conditions (e.g. high humidity and temperatures), ‘cooling’ breaks (from ninety seconds to three minutes) to allow the body’s temperature to fall; they are different from ‘drinks’ breaks (maximum one minute) which are for rehydration.

Players’ Equipment – Law 4 Multi-coloured/patterned undershirts are allowed if they are the same as the sleeve of the main shirt. Quick Free Kick and YC/RC – Law 12 If the referee is about to issue a YC/RC but the non-offending team takes the free kick quickly and creates a goal-scoring opportunity, the referee can delay the YC/RC until the next stoppage if the offending team was not distracted by the referee. Temporary Dismissals In addition to these law changes, the 2019/20 season will see the introduction of sin bins (formally named temporary dismissals) from step 5 (Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division level) down. These are explained in more detail on the next page.
