On The Boulevard

FEBRUARY 2024

Hello Marbella,

A lot of exciting things are going on around us! We are nearing the end of construction in the towers. I will be doing the final punch-out very soon. You’ll see it all come together when lighting and new furnishings arrive.

We have begun the storage locker replacement. We have also entered the production phase of the elevator’s replacement. You should start to see the staging of materials for that project in the next few months.

The fire alarm system is in the engineering phase, which I was told would take about two months. The kitchen project is advancing; new equipment should be arriving soon.

We are doing our best to keep up with all the action and maintain your in-unit services as steady as possible; wait times for work orders may get a little bit longer from time to time due to the building workload. But the Maintenance Department is doing its best to make this seamless.

All our departments are working together to make your home the most pleasant place to live. When you visit your friends and neighbors or even take a vacation, we want you to say this was amazing, but there is no place like home.

I sincerely hope we, as a staff, are making your wants and desires come true in a big way!

News: RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus)

We have been hearing a lot about RSV lately. The CDC has advised adults 60 and older to get the RSV vaccine.

What is an RSV infection? RSV is the abbreviation for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. It usually causes severe respiratory tract infections in the very young (less than two years old), very old, and immunocompromised individuals. RSV starts as an upper respiratory infection and then progresses

to a lower respiratory tract infection called acute bronchiolitis. When that happens, severe respiratory symptoms such as persistent cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, and fever can develop. Respiratory failure can happen in severe cases.

Diagnosis is usually made by nasal swab test that detects the presence of the virus. When symptoms are severe, steroids are commonly used to treat, and occasionally, an antiviral drug called Ribavirin

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Meet Ronnie & Mel Poplock

In 1997, Ronnie and Mel retired from their respective CPA practices in Rochester, New York, and moved to Naples. They transferred their CPA licenses to Naples and worked here for many years. Their first home was on Third Street when most activity in Naples was centered on Fifth Avenue. Twelve years ago, they moved to Mercato, where the movie theater, coffeehouse, restaurants, and Whole Foods Market made it a fun place to live. In October 2023, Mel and Ronnie moved to The Marbella and love living here!

Ronnie graduated from The University of Rochester. Mel graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University. They met in Rochester and have been married for 55 years.

Ronnie and Mel's love of animals has shaped their lives. In Rochester, Mel was President of the Board of Directors of the Humane Society. Ronnie was co-founder

is used. The use of this medicine has fallen out of favor due to its ineffectiveness and high cost.

According to the CDC, every year, 60,000-160,000 people are hospitalized due to RSV illnesses, and 6,000-10,000 people (about the seating capacity of the Cameron Basketball Stadium at Duke University) die of RSV among those aged 65 or older.

In 2023, a new RSV vaccine was developed.

of Animal Advocates of Upstate New York. At that time, they started a foundation dedicated to improving the lives of animals everywhere. In 1992, the foundation sponsored a lifetime achievement award for Jane Goodall in Los Angeles.

When they moved to Naples, Mel became treasurer of the Conservancy of SW Florida board. Ronnie joined the board of The Audubon Society. Saving wildlife habitat became a significant concern with all the rampant development. Ronnie co-founded Citizens for the Protection of Animals, based in Naples. Ronnie and Mel are on the Florida State Council for the Humane Society of the United States.

Another passion for Mel is the history and statistical analysis of baseball. He founded and is chairman of the SW Florida Society for American Baseball Research chapter.

Exterior window cleaning is scheduled for February 2, 2024, weather and wind permitting.

This vaccine is 80% effective, according to the CDC. It is suggested for those over 60. Based on available data and wisdom, very elderly persons with low immunity, cancer, frail, heart, lung, and kidney disease should strongly consider getting it along with other usual vaccines such as flu and pneumonia. Vaccines may have rare side effects, but they also protect you from severe illness and death. As always, the decision is individualized based on a discussion between you and your doctor.
