On The Boulevard

JANUARY 2025

In the New Year, our focus is on expanding safety, friendship, and social interaction in a healthy and worry-free living environment!

Your home is your nest. We all at The Marbella strive to make you feel safe and secure in your home. We aim to provide you with plenty of opportunities to enjoy fellowship with old friends and make new ones, as well as physical fitness, all in the comfort of your home.

There are many activities to participate in at The Marbella and Pelican Bay. You can utilize the Pelican Bay Foundation and attend any of their seminars, men’s coffee, women’s league, or additional fitness programs. To celebrate living on the water, just order a box lunch and take a short tram ride to the beach.

The Marbella offers onsite fitness classes, educational seminars, computer classes, special speaker lunches, public safety seminars, buffet dinners, and entertainment, to name a few.

For services, our maintenance team is always ready to assist with your needs, and our housekeeping team can help organize and clean your home. Our full-service salon offers

color, cuts, perms, and blow-dry options. The spa offers facials, wraps, manicures and pedicures, and a variety of massages—all just a phone call away. Our dining choices are first-class.

Your staff’s goal is to raise the bar and increase your service level with various activities, services, and exceptional food and beverage offerings, making The Marbella at Pelican Bay a truly unique lifestyle residence.

Here is to a happy and fulfilling 2025!

THE MORE YOU KNOW

Art After Hours

Artis—Naples invites the community to enjoy Art After Hours at The Baker Museum on the last Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 9:00 PM; the next event is Wednesday, Jan. 29. With live music performed by local musicians, food and beverages, and free admission to all museum exhibitions, Art After Hours is a fun evening of art and entertainment.

North Naples' longestrunning, largest, pet-friendly farmer's market takes place every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Galleria Shoppes at 2355 Vanderbilt Beach Road.

Book Club

The Book Club meets at noon for lunch and discussion. We will discuss How to Know a Person on Friday, Jan. 17 and Demon of Unrest on Friday, Feb. 21. Please RSVP to Phyllis Sattar, Book Club Facilitator, by calling 860.305.4743 or emailing psattar1@yahoo.com Each person must also call the dining room to make a lunch reservation.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

To stick to your New Year's resolutions, set realistic, specific goals, break them down into smaller, manageable steps, schedule time to work on them, and find an accountability partner to share your progress with. Essentially, make sure your resolutions are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) to increase your chances of success.

KEY STRATEGIES TO REMEMBER

• Be Realistic: Don't set yourself up for failure with overly ambitious goals; start small and gradually increase difficulty.

• Make Them Specific: Instead of eating healthier, aim to eat a vegetable with every meal.

• Write Them Down: Recording your goals can help you stay focused and committed.

• Find an Accountability Partner: Share your resolutions with a friend, family member, or colleague who can support and encourage you.

• Track Your Progress: Monitor your achievements to stay motivated and identify areas for improvement.

• Celebrate Milestones: Acknowledge your progress along the way to stay positive and engaged.

BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING IN DRY JANUARY

Dry January is when many people voluntarily stop drinking alcohol after the excesses of December and start the new year on a sober, clearer, more refreshed, and healthy note. A few benefits include better sleep, mental clarity, immunity, improved mood, and reduced stress and anxiety. The physical changes you may experience will depend on the amount of alcohol you were consuming leading up to January. It can take your body some time to get rid of alcohol entirely from its system.

TIP! Don’t hesitate to ask your server or bartender for mocktail suggestions! Mocktails can be more nutritious, and you can increase your intake of antioxidants and vitamin C.

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Meet Louise Leander

My name is Louise Leander, and I became a Marbella resident with my husband Hank last February. Before coming here, we lived in Pelican Bay's Bridge Way Villas and, for many years, had a house in Bonita Springs. We were so happy with The Marbella and its lovely amenities when we settled in last winter, and then, quite unexpectedly, Hank died in October. I'm sorry he didn't get to spend more time getting to know all of you.

olden days when Orange County had orange groves.

In 1960, Hank joined my family's company. This new career brought more opportunities, extensive domestic and international travel, and more relocations. By the time we'd been married just fifteen years, we had moved eight times and lived in six states. We made a good team and met wonderful people who became lifelong friends.

I was born and raised in Wabash, Indiana, where my family started and owned a business that supplied products for the waterworks industry. I met Hank at DePauw University. We married in 1953, a year after graduation, and immediately moved to New England. I worked as a grade school teacher in those early years while Hank attended graduate school. Once he earned his MBA, we headed west. Dallas was our home for two years and then we relocated to southern California. That was back in the

I oversaw the home front with every move by managing the household and raising our children. Our eighth move landed us back in my hometown. Hank became president of the company, and I became active in our community with special interests in the American Red Cross, the library board, birding, and choral groups. Our three children enjoyed the small-town life and living across the street from their grandparents.
