On The Boulevard
SEPTEMBER 2023
Marbella’s tower and elevator lobby renovation is underway, and the work started at the penthouse level of the north tower, working downward. The good news is that the project is going quicker than expected.
Ron Roker with RD Johnson Construction is the foreman who supervised the Cove’s renovation, and we are fortunate to have him overseeing the tower project. Ron has a sharp eye for detail and keeps the construction team focused on safety, cleanliness, and courtesy. While work is going on outside of your apartment, you should feel free to come and go as you like, as the construction team is aware that this is an inconvenience and is working together with our team to make the project as uninterruptible as possible. We promise to communicate with you on the project’s status and hope that the project will continue to go well.
We are pleased with the popularity of the exercise classes. As we prepare for a busy 2023/2024 season, Darci has reached out to several fitness instructors to provide you with several options that will help you reach your fitness goals. We will be offering Chair
Yoga and Tai Chi in addition to the Strength & Stretch, Balance & Stretch, and Mana Holtz’s Water Aerobics. Even if you have never attended a class, we encourage you to watch a session or two and decide if you would like to join in.
September is the peak of hurricane season, and having a plan is important. If you start asking yourself a few questions, “How will I get my medications?” “What do I do if the water is turned off in my apartment?” “Do I have flashlights and working batteries if the power is off?” Once you start asking these questions, you begin developing a plan. Last year was treacherous and a learning experience for all of us, and a hurricane plan, regardless of size, is smart.
Two beautiful new umbrellas were recently purchased to provide additional shade to the pool for those who love the outdoors but find it difficult to tolerate the direct sun.
Enjoy the outdoors and stay hydrated.
–Troy
MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Welcome Back
Many of our residents who went North for the summer are returning earlier than anticipated—many are seeking better healthcare or have experienced a change in health.
Welcoming you back should be seamless! If you advise the front desk or me of your return date/time, we will prepare your home with lights on, shutters open (weather permitting), water and water heater on, and greet you at the front door with a grand welcome home. We’ll also bring your luggage upstairs.
We LOVE our pets! Please use the proper precautions when walking them. Paws get very hot, and they need water frequently.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS
Meet Sandra Rosenblum
Sandra Lee Kahn was born to grocery store owners Edna and Julius Kahn in Charleston, South Carolina. Growing up, her mother insisted everyone use her first and middle name and call her Sandra Lee. Now, she prefers her first name only, Sandra.
Long before they were married, Sandra met her future husband Raymond Rosenblum when she was 13 and he was 18. He claimed, "I'm going to date her when she's grown up." They reconnected while working at the same hospital and began dating. He was a medical student, and she was an X-ray technician. After they married, Raymond spent two years in the Navy. He returned to finish his residency in Wisconsin (the snow was a shock to Sandra) and became a urologist. Raymond and Sandra had four children, two daughters and two sons, who now live in Naples, Lexington, Kentucky, Washington, DC, and Atlanta.
Sandra is most proud that at the age of 39, she realized she was the only one in her family with no college education and decided to change that. Six years later, while raising a family, Sandra graduated and began a teaching career specializing in special education.
After spending two seasons scoping out the area, Sandra discovered The Marbella and moved in about five months ago. She feels very fortunate to have landed here and finds other residents welcoming and friendly. Sandra enjoys trying to get to know all she can and spending time with her family, which now includes nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Welcome, Sandra!

Anemia Explained
Anemia or low blood count is a symptom of another disease. If your blood count is low, a reason must be found. Please be mindful that low blood count can happen for several reasons. These can be internal bleeding from an ulcer, tumor, etc., problems with blood cell production by bone marrow, or destruction of blood cells. If anemia happens suddenly, it makes you tired or even short of breath, depending on the blood count level. Anemia that occurs over time slowly may not cause any symptoms since you become used to it. Whatever the cause is, if a low blood count is noted, the reason needs to be found.

Book Club
The Marbella Book Club will resume its monthly lunchtime literary discussions on Friday, October 20, at noon, in the Barcelona Room. Sue Luconi will guide us through Ann Patchett's memoir, These Precious Days. The book is 320 pages, written in an easy, conversational style, and is best read in a leisurely, contemplative mood. While reading, we encourage you to notice which essay feels extra special and then dwell a little longer on that particular one, writing down your insights and questions to bring to the meeting to share. As always, we welcome new members and look forward to seeing all our devoted readers.
