MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Making Reservations For A Guest Suite
It’s the perfect time for your family to visit you in sunny Florida! Guest suites have recently been updated; each room has queen-sized beds, and they sleep four people more comfortably.
The rate to stay in a Marbella guest suite is less expensive than a local hotel this time of the year. Nightly rates are $135 (November 1-April 30) and $95 (May 1-October 31).
Guests must register and pick up keys at The Marbella front desk after 3:00 PM. A registration form will be available at check-in. The guest’s name, address, telephone number, estimated arrival time, and vehicle information will be requested. Check-out is at noon.
If the guest suites are already booked for the time of your request, we would be happy to extend The Marbella resident discount for a room at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Naples.
Please make all reservations with Resident Manager, Michelle Woodman; she can be reached at 239.593.2311.

Over-The-Counter Sleep Aids
With so many over-the-counter sleep aids on the shelves, deciding which one to take is very hard. In general, over-the-counter sleep aids are unsafe for older adults and are not recommended remedies for sleep. These medications usually contain an ingredient called diphenhydramine. This is a sedating antihistamine. There is little evidence that it improves sleep. But it does make you sleepy or groggy the next day due to its long half-life. That is a big concern since this may contribute to falling. Additional serious side effects specific to older adults are decreased alertness and cognition, delirium, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and increased pressure within your eye, causing worsening of glaucoma.
• During his business career, they moved 14 times; living in NYC, CT, NJ, Rome, Copenhagen, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Also, they loved to travel internationally, including Africa.
• Mostly, their happiest moments were spent sailing.
• They enjoyed a 42-foot sailboat built in ME and later bought a house in ME.
• With their wonderful family and crew, they entered the prestigious Bermuda Block Race five times and sailed the Block Island Sound Race Week at least five times.
• In 2008, they came to FL and bought a house on Windward Way; later, they purchased a condo in the Enclave of Naples.
• During retirement, for one year, Kenneth ran a biotech company in Boston, commuting from the Enclave.
• They cherished their sweet little dog named Oliver (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel).
• After Kenneth passed, Carol gave Oliver to Geoff.

Melatonin is an over-the-counter supplement that may promote sleep, but this has not been proven in research. It can also cause next-day drowsiness and headache. This supplement should be taken at least 3-5 hours before bedtime to get the benefit. Always start with the lowest dose.
Valerian root may help promote sleep. Some research has shown benefits, while others do not.
Never use alcohol to help you sleep. If you cannot sleep, talk to your doctor. There could be other reasons behind it that need to be addressed.
