December 2023: On The Boulevard

On The Boulevard

DECEMBER 2023

Just in time for the holidays, Marbella’s Board of Directors approved allowing residents to enjoy the 60% dining discount for their children, grandchildren, and siblings, and includes room service, too! This discount is in addition to the already successful “Family and Friends” discount, offering two 60% dining discounts a month, excluding Monday and Thursday evenings, and served in the dining rooms only. The family discount will go into effect on Friday, December 1, 2023. When making a table reservation, let the dining team know that you are entertaining your family and friends so the dining charges will be applied to your

account correctly. With the combination of the new discount, holidays, and record population, we ask that you call for advanced reservations the day prior so that we can provide you with Marbella’s outstanding service.

The water feature repair to The Marbella’s front entrance is almost completed, and we expect it to be back into service before the Christmas holiday. Carpet installation in the residential corridors is complete in the north tower, and RD Johnson Construction is adding additional labor to complete the installation before the end of December, hopefully sooner!

By now, you have received a copy of Marbella’s 2024 budget sent to you via US Mail. Marbella’s insurance costs increase from the 2023 budget is a startling 76%, which alone contributes to 7.7% of the 12.3% overall increase. Marbella is not alone with the increases in insurance premiums as every Florida condominium and homeowner has been impacted.

The Marbella and Cove team and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah!

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Meet Joel Greiff, Assistant Dining Room Manager

Joel loves to make others happy and is passionate about music, fine art, photography, incredible experiences, and remarkable food.

He was born in Milwaukee, on July 21, 1969, minutes after men first walked on the moon. This city is known for Summerfest, one of the world’s largest festivals, with ten stages and six bands each day on each stage for ten days. As a young lad, Joel attended every year. He attended the University of Wisconsin and studied pre-med biology, emphasizing on human genetics. As part of his studies, he also took economics classes. One day, the entire class was dedicated to the cost of free time. Joel took this to heart and decided it was time to explore.

After college, Joel moved to Vail, Colorado, for eight years. He managed high-end restaurants, opened ski clubs, and worked at private golf courses. In 1998, he became a sommelier. He started traveling the world and has visited over 40 countries for pleasure, not business.

The Collier Family recruited and relocated Joel in 2000 to be part of the opening management team of The Old Collier Golf Club, one of the country’s finest and most exclusive golf clubs. It was the perfect opportunity to be close to his cherished grandparents, who had just moved to Naples.

The Collier Family even asked Joel to be part of their butler staff for a summer at their massive ranch in White Sulphur Springs, Montana.

The Naples Winter Wine Festival,

started in 2001, and many of the board of trustees were members where Joel worked. He was asked to donate his sommelier services, and to date, this festival has raised $260 million for children’s charities in Collier County, making it the most successful in the world.

As part of his sommelier endeavors, he has tasted over 10,000 wines, sampled over 1,000 beers, visited over 100 vineyards, including all five French Bordeaux First Growths, and toured many California cult wineries.

In 2010, Joel created an auction lot for the Winter Wine Festival named Perfection, which consisted of 100 bottles of 100-point wine; it sold in 90 seconds for $405,000! He also created, procured, and donated to another auction lot named FANTASTIC! This lot contained 110 bottles of perfect wine. It was named after Joel’s wine consulting endeavor FANTASTIC! Wines. Joel was a part of this amazing festival for 13 years.

Joel started at The Marbella in 2014 and has considered the residents and staff part of his family ever

since. In 2015, he became his grandmother’s court-appointed guardian to ensure she lived her best life.

Grandma Frances was a wellrespected docent at two major Milwaukee and Palm Springs art museums. Frances and her husband, Dr. Donald Greiff, collected art from around the world. Joel also has an art collection with many oneof-a-kind pieces. Joel became a professional photographer and has sold some prints for thousands of dollars.

Joel’s love of music led him to create swflthingstodo.com, the largest and most comprehensive live music guide in Lee and Collier counties. Musicians and venues constantly thank him for his continuous support and dedication to their industries. In 2020, he founded October Music Fest, a benefit for Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida.

èBella Magazine did a story about Joel as “One of the Men We Love.” ABC7 News recently interviewed Joel. Hopefully, his festival raises millions of dollars over time and will become his legacy! This year, the event was held on October 22, on the Mercato lawn.

When retirement comes, Joel will continue his philanthropic commitment to helping others who are less fortunate. He also plans to reside on a different continent for three-year increments, learning about the culture, food, music, arts, history, and people. Joel hopes to live on six of the seven continents. Antarctica will be a monumental trip, but he doesn’t want to live there since it is too cold.

Usefulness of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in Healthcare

I hope you are keeping up with the advancement of technology and invention. I am sure you have heard the term AI or Artificial Intelligence; this field is emerging, and its potential for use in medicine is enormous. I have seen in the news that AI can pass the exam medical students take. ChatGPT is an open AI software that you can download as an app on your phone. You can ask anything of it, such as write an essay on any subject, and it can do it. So I asked ChatGPT, “What are the usefulness of AI in healthcare?” and got the following answer: I am amazed to know all these. I cut and paste below. I admit that the following essay was written by AI and not by me.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a wide range of applications in healthcare, and its usefulness in the field is continually growing. Here are some of the key benefits and use cases of AI in healthcare:

• Disease Diagnosis: AI can assist in early and accurate disease diagnosis by analyzing medical

images, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. It can detect anomalies and patterns that may be difficult for human radiologists to identify.

• Treatment Recommendations: AI systems can analyze patient data, medical records, and research to recommend personalized treatment plans. This can help healthcare providers make more informed decisions about patient care.

• Predictive Analytics: AI can predict disease outbreaks, patient readmissions, and other healthcare trends by analyzing large datasets. This information can be used for resource allocation and early intervention.

• Drug Discovery: AI accelerates drug discovery by simulating molecular interactions, identifying potential drug candidates, and predicting their efficacy and safety.

• Virtual Health Assistants: AI-powered virtual health assistants can provide information, schedule appointments, and monitor patient vitals. They enhance patient engagement and provide on-demand healthcare support.
