Day of the Dead
A Night of Community & Culture
Day of the Dead, or Día de Los Muertos (DDLM), is a night of community and culture. A one-night event hosted in Downtown Anaheim, the event provides residents with an opportunity to celebrate an evening out with family and friends. Día de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday that traces back hundreds of years and combines the cultures of indigenous people of Mexico with that of European immigrants whom first arrived in the Americas over 500 years ago. The traditional holiday focuses on the gathering of family and friends to honor and remember loved ones whom have passed on through the creation of colorful altars that celebrate life that include photos, food, drinks, flowers, candles, and other worldly possessions once held by the dearly departed.
Día de Los Muertos in Anaheim began in 2015 as a fundraiser for Project S.A.Y. (Support Anaheim’s Youth) with 250 parents in attendance. The event has grown exponentially over the years drawing thousands of attendees and we are happy to be back this year in person. This event is once again hosted through a strong partnership and collaboration between the Anaheim Community Services Department, the Anaheim Community Foundation, the Project S.A.Y., the Anaheim Union High School District, the Anaheim Elementary School District, and the Magnolia School District, among others.

SantanaWays Coming in October
October 22 at 7:00 p.m. • FREE
Benito Mechoulam born in Mexico City was a lead guitarist for New Wave, Blues, Classic Rock, Jazz Fusion, and Tribute Bands. Friends and fans repeatedly commented on Benito’s uncanny similarities to the great Carlos Santana in appearance, playing style and sound, helping make this the TRUE Carlos Santana Tribute Show. That inspired him to start a Santana Tribute Band.
With the help from talented musicians, “Santanaways” was born in October of 2012. Within a month, they had their first public appearance at a local fundraiser. Their shows have captivated audiences with each performance ever since. The caliber of the assembled musicians along with their precise interpretations of the music makes this the #1 Carlos Santana Tribute Show in the U.S. today!
Concessions, beer, and wine will be available for purchase at this event.

Mobile Family Resource Center Project
Throughout the months of June and July, Neighborhood & Human Services staff helped to coordinate the Anaheim Mobile Family Resource Center project in 15 neighborhoods throughout the city. The goal of the ongoing project is to bring resources directly into underserved neighborhoods that lack close proximity to a community or family resource center. In addition to city departments, various non-profit organizations participate in the neighborhood visits to provide assistance. For instance, Community Action Partnership of Orange County offers financial assistance to qualifying residents in the form of gift cards. Additionally, other community-based organizations such as Love Anaheim provide food boxes and other items for families in need. For more information, please call (714) 765-4397.
