BEING A
Foreign
LEADER
POPCORNED BY DEY DOS
Make it personal! BECAUSE IT’S PERSONAL!
ADJUSTMENT DOESN’T JUST HAPPEN One effective way to grow is to adjust intentionally.
WHAT IS THEVALUE OF BRINGING EXTERNAL INPUT INTO THE ORGANIZATION? Both, for me and for AIESEC.
ADJUSTMENT DOESN’T JUST HAPPEN If you focus on goals, you may hit goals – but that doesn’t guarantee growth.
IF YOU FOCUS ON GROWTH, YOU WILL GROW AND ALWAYS HIT GOALS!

FOREIGN LEADERS’
EXCUSES
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 1. THE ASSUMPTION EXCUSE “I Assume That Over Time I Will Automatically Adjust” When we are children, our bodies grow automatically.
We don’t improve by simply living. We have to be intentional about it. We don’t improve by accident. We must take complete ownership of our growth process.
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 2. THE KNOWLEDGE EXCUSE “I Don’t Know How To Fit In” Learn only from the school of hard knocks. Crack your shell wide open!
Decide where you want to grow, choose what you will learn, and follow through with discipline going at the pace you set.
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 3. THE TIMING EXCUSE “Now It’s Not The Right Time To Work On This” Now is the time to start growing. You will never get much done unless you go ahead and do it before you are ready.
Once you start growing intentionally, you can keep growing and keep asking “What’s next?”
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 4. THE MISTAKE EXCUSE “I’m Afraid I Will F*ck It Up” Expect to make mistakes every day, and welcome them as a sign that you are moving in the right direction.
“A mistake is simply another way of doing things.” WARRENBENNIS
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 5. THE PERFECTION EXCUSE “I Have To Find The Best Way Before I Even Try” I have to get started if I wanted to find the best way. The journey shows me the path!
“Don’t let perfection become procrastination.” Danielle LaPorte
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 6. THE INSPIRATION EXCUSE “I Don’t Feel Like It” The reason to keep growing far outweigh the reasons to start growing. Inspire yourself to aggressively pursue personal growth in this journey!
You will fall in love with the process.
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 7. THE COMPARISON EXCUSE “Others Are Better Than I Am Or Than I Will Ever Be” “I am always behind trying to catch up.” “I stepped out of my comfort zone and I was intimidated.”
Great leaders are always willing to share their ideas and experiences. You can learn faster and easier if others are ahead of you.
FOREIGN LEADERS’ EXCUSES 8. THE EXPECTATION EXCUSE “I Thought It Would be Easier And Cooler Than This” We create our own crazy world with our expectations. Reset your expectations to free yourself!
“You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight.” JIMROHN
DIRECTION NOT DISTANCE From “How long will this take?” to “How far can I go?”
The greatest danger you face in this moment is the idea that you will make intentional adjustment a priority later.
THE FEAR OF FEAR
We all have fears. We also have faith.
