Austin 2014 Resume Triumph

Austin Shaw-O’Leary with his unique road racing experience, and ability to provide great feedback to his engineers has positioned himself to begin a quest to be a top performer in the AMA Pro Road Racing Supersport Class. We feel the best team for him in 2014 will be under the Triumph Motorcycles brand.

Currently living in Canada Austin, understands that in order for him to reach the next level of motorcycle road racing he must take part in the AMA Pro Racing series. Austin started in road racing in Atlantic Canada pioneering the youth CBR125 class in 2009. From here he competed in this class as part of the National series. By 2011 he had adopted his riding style following the ‘new school’ tequniques of todays top young road racers overseas. He completed 2011 with a 2nd place overall in the National CBR125 class and had gained valuable experience racing an SV650 machine in his regional series. It wasn’t unil 2012, when Austin began running in the Sportbike class on machinery including a CBR600 and Yamaha R6 that his true skills became evident. Not only did he continue to utilize his ‘new school’ riding style, we learned early on that he had a high propensity to understand his machine, and clearly communicate this information to his team and engineer. It was this ability and skill that enabled him to be chosen to compete in the final round of the 2012 Spanish Moto2 Championship in Valencia, Spain.

Competing in the Moto2 class in the Spanish Championship was an amzaing experience for him. Likely the youngest rider to ever compete in the Moto2 class in that series; at only 16 he qualified under very difficult circumstances and competed the entire weekend. This experience also solidified his passion to compete in this sport.

In 2013, Austin was a rookie pro racer in the Canadian National Championship and dispite mechanical difficulties throughout the season, he successfully raced in both Superbike and Sportbike piloting his Yamaha R6 with the top group of riders throughout the season. Regionally, he secured Pro Rookie fo the Year, along with Atlantic Superbike Championship titles.

For training, he uses different cardio and strength training methods with personal trainers. He also, enjoys motocross, and cycling as a means to keep himself as fit as possible.

Why Triumph Motorcycles North America And AMA Pro Road Racing During the end of the 2013 race season Austin took time to determine what series would be in his best interest to compete in, along with creating a short list of teams. Through conversations with Roland Riedmann we learned the approach that Triumph Motorcycles North America has been taking to compete in the AMA Pro Racing series. We have been so impressed with the program that Triumph is offering for its riders to compete and push to the top of their respective classes, we truly feel this would be the best fit for Austin. Triumph Motorcycles has continued to reinvent their great brand in North America and we are excited about the possiblity of contributing to Triumph’s success.

Eventhough Austin has had some great experiences in his short career in racing, it is very important for him to get riding during the off-season and gain more seat time and to become familiar with the new machinery he will be competing on. We have a number of possibilities available to Austin for training pre-season and during the season of racing; he has access to a residence in Las Vegas, if that suits the team, and he is open to relocating to best progress is racing career.

What Can Austin Do For Triumph For 2014, Austin is eager to build long lasting partnerships which he could bring to the team to help offset the costs of competing at this level with Triumph Motorcycles. We are currently looking for strategic partners who will be interested in coming on board for the 2014 season, understanding they would need to be approved by the team prior to their final commitment. Not only has he proven himself as a great young rider, he is also an honor student completing High School with long term goals as a commercial airline pilot. He is often referred to as “17 going on 37” based on his mature outlook, and ability to be a professional spokesman for his partners.

Right now, we are requesting an official meeting where we can explain the details of what we can bring to the team and to Triumph Motorcycles North America as well as an opportunity to discuss some of our current sponsorship leads.

References Darin Marshall (aka Marshall) In 2001 started working with American Honda factory team to do the data analysis and engine management for Nicky Hayden. He worked at American Honda for 5 years, we won the AMA superbike with Nicky in 2002.

Following that Nicky Hayden’s move to MotoGP Darin worked with Miguel Duhamel, Ben Bostrom, and Jake Zemke as the sole data engineer for the team. For 2006, he was approached and took on the role of crew chief for Clint McBain in the Canadian superbike series working with Joe Skidd of Ohlins heritage. The team folded after 2006. In 2007 Darin was approached by the Kawasaki factory Superbike team to be the data engineer in the AMA superbike series, he accepted and worked as the data engineer for 2007 and 2008.

In 2009, Jordan motorsports approached him to help them for some tests while they worked to get their new 2009 Suzuki 1000s properly setup. The team ended asked him to stay on as data engineer for 2009. In 2010 the Jordan team asked if I would assume the crew chief position for Jake Zemke for the AMA superbike series. He has continued with the team and was crew chief for Ben Bostrom in 2011 and 2012, followed by Danny Eslick in 2013 where he also took part in select World Superbike Championship events.

Darin and Austin have worked together for two years and were also on the team competing in the final round of the Spanish Moto2 Championship in 2012. We are excited to have Darin on our team for 2014.

Andrew Murray (Vicious Cycle Inc.) Andrew has an extensive background running, promoting, and organizing road racing events in Canada both on a Regional and National level. This background along with his experience working with manufacturers, and team members has allowed me to function extremely well in managing teams and riders in an international environment. Most recently he was crucial in creating a team in the Spanish Championship Moto2 class with goals set squarely on getting riders to the World Championship. He also has a strong technical background in motorcycle road racing drawing on his experience in the Information Technology sector where he started his career. This technical background makes him a key team member during events, while his marketing background allows him to provide extensive business development and promotion throughout the year.
