On October 8, all of us lost a dear friend. David was involved with the CRC for many years and served as our president for the last six. He cared deeply about the communities of Evans, Brant and the Lake Shore Central School District and wanted to protect people, especially children, from the dangers of alcohol and other drugs. David worked tirelessly for our cause and was the heartbeat of our organization. His kindness and gentle spirit will not be forgotten and those of us that remain involved with CRC will continue the work to which he was so committed. We are all grateful for his leadership and service. He will be greatly missed.

“Brant’s Haunted House”
Hurricane Hall – Brant’s Haunted House A Place Where No Man Can Peaceably Reside
On the border of Cattaraugus Reservation, just after passing the Milestrip, stands a large, well built, and attractive frame house. When this residence was erected, the locality sur- Is it possible that the horse and carriage were obtained from the Mosher House at Brant Center on that fateful evening??? rounding it was desolate in the extreme. For miles around nothing but the dense woods could be seen, giving it an air of dire loneliness, and people wondered what could induce anyone to choose such an unattractive place for a home. The person who erected the house was a gentleman from New York city, and after putting up the mansion, he moved his family, consisting of his wife and two interesting children to their new abode.
Some years passed, and the gentleman, apparently sick of his life in the wilds of western New York, moved back to his city home. When he left, the two children whom he brought with him did not accompany him, which caused a good deal of talk among the few neighbors scattered around about. But the matter was soon forgotten, and after a time the house and surrounding grounds were advertised for sale. The sum asked for the property was large, but the country was being cleared, farms were being opened up, and a buyer was soon found, who at once took possession, and went to work making improvements on the grounds, and it was thought by all that the purchaser secured a cheap place. After a residence of a few months, the newcomer offered it for sale at a much lower figure than he paid for it; a proceeding that seemed strange. But on being questioned, he gave apparently good reasons for selling, and the place changed hands again. Another tenant took possession and after a short residence, he like the former occupants, offered it for sale. After this, it seemed as if no one could be found to either buy or rent the house, and Dame Rumor spread the story that the house was haunted. Then came forth the brave man and says He “I will live in that house haunted or not haunted!” and in went his dry goods, etc., and in a week, they were moved out again. At last, a search of the premises was made, and away in the outer corner of the cellar was found the skeletons of what appeared to a child and a man.
Then the “old inhabitant” came to the rescue and told the tale of a man who had come to Brant years gone by, on a dreary winter night, and informed the hotelkeeper that he wished to go to residence of Mr.________ that night, as he had important business to transact with the owner of the house. A horse and carriage was provided, and with a guide, he put out for the “castle”. It has transpired since that this stranger held a mortgage on the place, and it having fallen due, he had come to collect and foreclose. That man never returned. We have it from sources that appear to be reliable, that he was invited to partake of the good things the house contained among which of course was wine, and that he was drugged, murdered, and buried in the cellar. One of the children, who happened to be awakened by the noise, was made away with, that the matter be kept quiet, and these skeletons found in the cellar are supposed to be those of the victims. What became of the other child no one knows, but it is reasonable to suppose that she came to the same end as her sister.
The original proprietor of the property disappeared and was never heard of after he went to New York. When it was discovered that a murder had been committed, detectives were engaged to look the matter up, but, no trace has ever been found of the murderer, and whatever became of the perpetrators of the dark deed could never be ascertained.

Dear Heart of Jesus, In the past I have asked many favors. This time I ask you this special one (mention favor). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it.
