Lake Shore High School has a new assistant principal but Lake Shore is not entirely new to him. Jason Sullivan graduated from Lake Shore, where he played basketball, volleyball, and tuba, in 1999. He then attended SUNY Cortland, and graduated with a dual major in history and secondary social studies. Then he was back at Lake Shore as a substitute teacher before heading to Virginia, where he taught Middle

School social studies and special education. He moved

to New York to take a position as a social studies teacher at the Buffalo Academy of Science, where he subsequently was named department chair, and grade level chair, and assistant principal.

Now back at Lake Shore, he’s overseeing 9th and 12th grade students, and his ultimate goal is to help them find success. He defines a successful high school student as someone who is able to put their priorities in order. “You don’t have to be perfect, nobody is,” he says, “But to learn people skills like cooperation, compromise and finding common ground is important. To do that, you have to take accountability for yourself when you make mistakes and learn to work with other people. There aren’t a lot of avenues in life where you can put your head down and just do it all by yourself.”

He notes that he’s excited to be working with the teachers, some of whom he had himself years ago. While there have been multiple transformations since he went to school here,he says one thing has stayed the same, and that is the “variety of courses and activities for a lot of different interests. You can learn a lot from those experiences, and grow and become a good member of a community, be your own person, and not just stuck in a box.” Mr. Sullivan’s wife, Jessica, also is a Lake Shore graduate. They have three children, Sawyer, 17; Emerson, 13, and Larkin, 10, as well as two rescue dogs, Pearl and Pork Chop.

We take great pride in announcing that Shane William Friend had completed his basic military training at the U.S. Air Force Lackland Training Base, Texas. For seven (7) weeks beginning January 2, 2024, Shane trained as a member of Basic Military Training Squadron (BMT) TRS 326/Flight 181 aka “Hooyah Bulldogs”. At the Airmen Coin Ceremony held on February 21, 2024, Shane, along with fellow recruits, received his Airman’s coin, signifying his transition from Trainee to Airman. Shane graduated with approximately 700 fellow Airman at the Graduation Ceremonies held on February 22, 2024. Shane is currently completing the required technical training for his position in the US Air Force Security Forces. Shane is a 2023 graduate of Lake Shore Central Schools and is the son of Rebecca Friend of Angola, N.Y. and Ronald R. Friend of Brant, N.Y. Petitions shall be filed in the District Clerk’s Office located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except Holidays. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that voting will consist of voting on the budget and on the following propositions, as well as other such matters as may be lawfully presented at the meeting:

PROPOSITION NO. 1

Shall the following resolution be adopted:

RESOLVED, that the budget for the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2024, and ending June 30, 2025, as presented by the Board of Education is hereby approved and adopted and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be levied and collected as required by law.

PROPOSITION NO. 2

Shall the following resolution be adopted:

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District (the “District”) is hereby authorized to purchase the following replacement vehicles for use by the District in the transportation of students and general use by the District: one (1) 30-passenger battery electric school bus at an estimated cost of $149,553.32; two (2) 9-passenger gasoline mobility vehicles at an estimated cost of $77,500 each; and one (1) pick-up truck with snow plow and lift gate at an estimated cost of $75,000; for a total aggregate maximum cost of $379,553.32; with such aggregate cost to be raised by a tax upon the taxable property of the District to be levied and collected in annual installments as provided in Section 416 of the Education Law, with such tax to be partially offset by State aid available therefore, and, in anticipation of such tax, by the issuance of debt obligations of the District as may be necessary, not to exceed such maximum aggregate cost. No tax levy increase is anticipated for Proposition No. 2.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that applications for absentee ballots and applications for early mail ballot may be obtained Monday through Friday, except holidays, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the District Clerk’s Office located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York. Candidates must enter through the main entrance of the High School. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk or her designee at least seven (7) days before the annual meeting and election (May 14, 2024) if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or by the day before the election (May 20, 2024) if the ballot is to be issued to the voter in person. Completed absentee ballots and early mail ballots must be received by the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 21, 2024.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may apply for a military ballot. Applications for military ballots may be obtained from the District Clerk’s Office and the military voter may designate a preference to receive the application and/or the military ballot by mail, fax or email. Completed applications for military ballots must be received by the District Clerk or her designee by no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 25, 2024.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a list of all persons to whom absentee and early mail ballots are issued will be available for public inspection between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the office of the District Clerk on the five days prior to the annual meeting and election, except Sundays, and such list will be available at the polling place during the annual meeting and election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Such written challenge shall be transmitted to the District Clerk before the close of the polls.
