“HATS OF THE PAST” on display at the Evans Town Hall
Worn for special occasions and church, ladies’ hats were quite fashionable in the late 1800’s to the mid-20th century. The “Shirley Pfalzgraf Hat Collection” dates from the early 1900’s and there is quite an assortment on display. Some hats are elaborate and brightly colored adorned with feathers, ribbons, flowers, and such - while others are simple and sleek. When purchased they arrived in a hat box to help retain their shapes.
We hope you will enjoy seeing the amazing styles of hats and variety of hat boxes in the exhibit and we wonderwould you have worn any of the hats on display?
The exhibit is courtesy of Ron Pfalzgraf (Shirley’s husband) and was creatively arranged by members of the Evans Historical Society.

Michelle A. Neumeister
4647 Southwestern Blvd, Hamburg, NY 14075 (716) 648-6444
On Sunday, May 12th, 2024, Michelle A. Neumeister began her eternal rest in peace at her home in Fredonia, NY, surrounded by her children and family. Formally from Derby, NY, Michelle was the beloved wife of the late Randy Neumeister, dear mother of son Josh Neumeister, late daughter Ashley Neumeister, and daughter Sarah Neumeister. Michelle was the daughter of the late Martin "Joe" Lovern and Mary Ann (Manley) Lovern, daughter-in-law to the late Robert and Lois (Lyman) Neumeister, and sister to the late Kristian (Stacey) Lovern, Valarie (Michael) Rechin, and Madonna (Marty Brannigan) Lovern, aunt to nieces and nephews Lindsey Lovern, Josh (Leah) Bush, Megan (Joe Ver) Rechin, and Emily Rechin. Michelle was a friend to all, especially animals. Throughout her life, she rescued and cared for numerous pets. She also loved supporting people during her career as a Direct Support Aid for the Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office. She went above and beyond at the houses where she worked, treating people like they were her own family and ensuring they always felt special. If you were to look for Michelle in her favorite places, you could find her at a beach walking in the sand, in her garden with the biggest green thumb, watching for birds in her backyard, or in front of a craft table, easel, or paintbrush— creating beautiful artwork for everyone to enjoy. The family is requesting privacy and peace as they navigate the loss of beloved Michelle, and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Westfield Stray Cat Rescue or the Lakeshore Humane Society in memory of Michelle. Arrangements by Latimore Schiavone Funeral Home, Inc.

From the Old Photo Album
Last year, Anne Mitchell, resident of the town of Brant, came across this photo of a parade float all decorated for “The Spirit of 76”. At that time, we didn’t have the names of those included in the photo, but today we do with thanks to Margie Pero. Our patriotic youths are (L-R): Louie Catalano driving the tractor, Denise Pero next to him. Front Row: Rosemary Kuczka, Chrissy Pero, Kevin Kuczka, and Jimmy Pero. Back Row: Angela Pero, Sherry Catalano, and Charles Pero.
We felt the story of the photo was worth repeating and so it goes: The photo was taken at what is today known as “the old Brant Town Hall”. Our country’s Bicentennial Year was 1976 and the founding of our great land was celebrated in all the states, towns, and villages in a variety of ways. The town of Brant recognized the country’s 200th Anniversary at their annual Memorial Day services.
On Memorial Day, May 30th, 1976, the town of Brant dedicated the Veteran’s monument in the then newly created Veteran’s Memorial Park at Brant Center. Dedicated in honor of those “men and woman who have served their country in it’s hour of need” and especially those who gave their lives for our freedom. The remembrance celebration consisted of a Parade, Memorial Day services, the dedication of the Monument and Park, a Historical Exhibit, and refreshments for all in the Brant Fire Hall. The “Evans Brant Central High School Band” under the direction of Peter Ciraolo played musical selections during the parade and throughout the dedication ceremony. David Schwartz of Farnham sang our NATIONAL ANTHEM.
In addition to the High School Band, local organizations participating in the parade were the four scout troops from Farnham: Cub Scout Pack 398, Boy Scout Pack 398, Brownie Troop 592, and Girl Scout Troop 592. Included as well, were members of VFW Post 1672 from Swormsville, NY and VFW Post 5798 from Evans, NY, antique cars of Mr. John Walker of Farnham and J. Carlton Winters of Brant, the Farnham Fire Dept. Marching Unit and Fire Truck, Brant Volunteer Fire Truck and Fire Police, and the Town of Brant Police Department.
