Janet Ann Cuevas (nee Kennedy) known aﬀectionately as Jan, passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 66 in Angola, NY. Janet lived a life marked by simplicity and kindness, always keeping her loved ones close to her heart. She found so much joy in sunsets on the beach and the wildlife around her Angola home. Her artistic spirit was expressed through painting, drawing, playing guitar, and singing. A cancer survivor, Janet's resilience and never-giveup attitude were an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her mother, Priscilla Kennedy; siblings, Patricia Kennedy and Ronnie Maxwell; daughters, Desiree Fairchild, Merisa Cuevas, and Jennifer Turton; and her beloved grandchildren; Garrie, Kyler, Christopher, Andrew, Kaeleigh, Devin, and Maxton. She was preceded in death by her father, William Kennedy, and brother, Bill Kennedy. Her love for life and the beauty in the world will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Clara Nytz Day in Village of Angola

Born and raised in Farnham, NY on April 17, 1929, and living in the Village of Angola, Clara Nytz, 95, has always been a diligent working woman and one of the kindest persons you will want to know. She was one of 16 children raised on a farm on Detroit Street by her parents, August and Anna Millitello. She married Ray Nytz and had one son, Danny and many grandchildren.

The Village of Angola, wishing to honor Clara for her delightful and accepting demeanor and a one of a kind woman, have proclaimed Wednesday, April 17, 2024, as “Clara Nytz Day”.

Last Call

On February 28, 2024, Brendan H. Dougherty of Angola responded to his Last Call in life. Brendan was a Past Chief and active member for 48 years of the Lake Erie Beach Volunteer Fire Company. During those years, he held many elected oﬃce positions in the Company and held a Board of Director position at his passing. He held the position of Chief from 1983 to 1987 and was known as the Chief who deactivated many problems with his advice of “we all make mistakes”.

Brendan was a self-employed plumber and man of all trades. As a result, he was also on call as needed at the firehall firematically, mechanically and doing building maintenance. He was one of a group at the firehall known as the “good guys”. Brendan was also an avid motorcyclist.

A Celebration of Life was held on July 13, 2024, by his wife, Elaine and children, Heather, Sean and Mark. It was attended by family, friends and the active members of the Lake Erie Beach Fire Company, who shared many stories of moments with Brendan. An Honor Guard was formed by the active members for a reenactment of his final Last Call. Brendan is now a guardian who will watch over all his brother and sister firefighters as they respond to emergencies.

Local Resident Earns Dean's List Honors at University of Tampa

Taiya Comstock, of Lake View, earned dean's list honors at The University of Tampa for the Spring 2024 semester. Comstock was a Freshman majoring in International Business and Finance BS.

Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the dean's list.
