Happy New Year!
This past year proved to be another challenging year for us all as we continued to deal with more uncertain and expensive times. Politics and beliefs aside, we have continued to make great advancements as a country, state, community, and personally - as a small business. We are optimistic and hopeful that better times are yet ahead.
Please know how much we appreciate you, our valued customers and loyal readers. It is because of you that we have been able to continue to produce the weekly Pennysaver that you know and love for over 90 years.
We are extremely excited for the growth we’ve seen in our small, lake-front community over the last year. We encourage you to check out the numerous new businesses that have come to life, especially those right here in the quaint Village of Angola.
At the end of each year we look forward to sharing our annual calendar with you all. This past year, Mother Nature had other plans. The local printer we use is based out of Buffalo and unfortunately experienced significant production delays as a result of the Blizzard. We appreciate your patience and are thrilled to finally have it in hand. We say this every year, and we’ll say it again... this is the best calendar yet! We hope you display this hometown calendar proudly, support the local businesses advertised inside, and admire the beauty of our community through the photos contributed by local artists. If you did not recieve your copy or need additional ones, limited extra copies are available in our office.
We have prided ourselves in being able to share this beautiful calendar at no cost to our readers for the last 10 years. With the cost of ink, paper and printing significantly increasing we must swallow our pride and ask for the community’s help. Although not required, donations to offset our costs are tremendously appreciated. Donations may be mailed to The Angola Pennysaver, 19 Center Street, Angola NY 14006.
As always, we thank you for your continued support and admiration of your local Angola Pennysaver.
Most Precious Blood Church and Operation Good Neighbor (OGN) would like to thank all who donated to the recent Project: Keep Evans Warm and Fed effort to provide essential warm winter clothing and food to Town of Evans residents in need. Hunger and hardship exist everywhere and our own Town is no exception. There were over 700 items of warm winter clothing donated that included coats, snow pants, hats, gloves/mittens, scarves and boots. Much of the clothing donated was purchased new, homemade or gently used. The food drive collected almost 300 pounds of canned/dry goods that included baby food. The paper goods and personal care items were numerous. Every donation no matter how small helped make this effort a success. We would like to mention that contributions from First Church of Evans, Evans Home Bureau, and the woman who knitted so many hats of various sizes greatly enhanced the Project’s total. Although the Christmas Season version of Project: Keep Evans Warm and Fed is officially over, the need for more clothing, food, and paper goods still exist. Please clip and save the following numbers and feel free to call 481-4480 or 507-6703 for any donations to be taken to OGN during the upcoming year. We have learned from OGN that once the holidays have ended, the support for those requiring assistance decreases. More notices and details will be forthcoming to promote the upcoming Easter Season adaption of

A scene from the live Christmas play held on Dec. 16th, 2022, at St. Anthony’s Church in Farnham, N.Y. The play was performed by the children and young adults of St. Anthony’s Religious Programs.
A Live Christmas Play at St. Anthony’s Church, Farnham, N.Y.
Members of St. Anthony’s Church Faith Formation, Religious Education and Youth Ministry classes presented a Christmas play for the enjoyment of the parish family and surrounding community on December 16, 2022, in St. Anthony’s Church. The play, narrated by various youth of the program, depicted the story of the birth of Jesus. As it was narrated, each of the children portrayed characters in the scenes leading up to and following Christ’s birth.
For this production, a simplified version of Jesus’s birth was scripted by Stephen Brachmann, based on the gospel according to Luke; a well-loved and well-known biblical story. It was written to include each of the children and young adults of the religion program. There were shepherds, angels, three wise men and of course Mary and Joseph. A doll was representative of the infant Jesus.
The Christmas play provided a heartwarming beginning to the Christmas season. Watching these young people “living out” such a special story, created reflections of hope and joy that only the true spirit and meaning of Christmas - the witnessing Jesus’s birth - can provide.
Rev. James Fliss is the Pastor of St. Anthony’s Church. The youth of the parish are guided by the boundless energy and spiritual enthusiasm of Michelle Baumgarden, Kathleen Brachmann and Keith Dash.

Isaac Climenhaga is AJS’s January
Kind Kid
Isaac Climenhaga is A.J. Schmidt Elementary School’s Kind Kid of the Month for January. He recently earned a “Shout Out” from Mrs. Govenettio for showing kindness when his friend needed help.
Isaac says he enjoys being kind because it feels good and he likes when others are kind back to him. He learned kindness from his mom, who also happens to make the best macaroni and cheese. Isaac shows her kindness back by helping wash the dishes.
He says two of the best parts of being at A.J. are the teachers and learning, and his favorite parts of the school day are recess and reading during ELA. When he grows up, Isaac wants to become a train conductor.
He likes to be outside riding his bike and swimming in warm weather. During the winter, he likes to go sledding. He also likes to stay warm inside and play on his tablet. Isaac believes that everyone tries to be nice to him so he is nice back and that makes him feel really good. Isaac thinks the “shout-Out” board is a great way for teachers to show kindness and to encourage others to be kind. That’s a great choice for someone who likes to help others!
