Wall of Fame Nominations Sought In 1992 the Lake Shore Central School District developed the Wall of Fame program for recognizing the outstanding achievements of district alumni. Every other year the district holds an induction ceremony in the Spring honoring new inductees. We have begun the process of selecting a new class for induction. These individuals are people who, after graduation, have greatly contributed to society through their hard work, talents and leadership. Nominees must be a graduate of at least 15 years and may not currently be an employee of the Lake Shore Central School District. If you know of any alumni who should be considered for this honor, we ask that you provide us with a completed application by February 22, 2019. Each nominee will be reviewed by the district committee for possible induction into the “Wall of Fame”. Individuals who are selected will be afforded a place on the “wall” with a picture and biographical information. Also, it will be expected that the honoree addresses our high school students and attend a reception being held in their honor. This year’s Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Reception is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2019. More information will follow at a later date. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Charles Galluzzo, Superintendent of Schools, at (716) 926-2201. The Wall of Fame Nomination Form can be downloaded from our website: www.lakeshorecsd.org

Evans Senior Center Entertainment for the Holidays
The Holiday season was definitely at the Evans Senior Center, which was apparent with the beautiful festive decorations throughout the building. Director of the center arranged the Holiday Guitar Quartet to come and provide entertainment for the seniors. They played various songs from all over the globe for the Christmas season. Each performer played a solo piece of their choice of music and wowed the audience. Their synchronized harmony was so pleasant to everyone’s ear. The following week, comedy entertainment by “Hollie Day” the clown was arranged for the members. This entertainer always brings her “A” game to every performance she does. Not only is this particular entertainer enjoyable but she gears her performance to the age group she is performing for. The laughter and the way “Hollie the clown” has the audience engaged with her is just wonderful to see. Music and Laughter does nothing but feeds the soul and this is just one of the many ways of progress the center is continuing to implement for the members during the holiday season. The Church of Most Precious Blood & Operation Good Neighbor (OGN)
would like to thank
all who donated to the recent recent
Project Keep Evans Warm
effort to provide essential warm winter clothing to our Town of Evans residents in need. This year’s collection almost doubled last year’s effort with 913 articles of clothing collected that included 168 warm coats, 377 winter hats, 118 pairs of gloves and many other winter clothing items. A special thank you for their continued support goes out to the First Church of Evans, Lake Shore Central Middle School with guidance from Ms. Valeri Smith and members of Most Precious Blood. Sadly, we have learned from OGN that once the Holidays have ended, the support for those requiring assistance decreases. Consequently, we will conduct a dry and canned goods food drive that will include paper items not provided by current assistance programs. The program Keep Evans Fed will commence March 4 and end April 21. More details are forthcoming. Questions can be directed to 716-481-4480 and 716-507-6703.

Community Concern of WNY CEO Jerry Bartone Retires
Community Concern of Western New York, a regional leader in the state-wide effort to deliver integrated, behavioral health, senior care and health home services, has announced the retirement of its longtime CEO, Jerry Bartone, MA, MBA, and named Valerie Nowak, LMHC MPA, to succeed him. Mr. Bartone had been in Community Concern’s top post for 29 years. During his tenure, the agency has grown exponentially. When he began in 1989, it had an operating budget of roughly $200,000 and only six employees. Today it is approaching a $2 million budget and a staff of 40. He oversaw the addition of Health Home Services to the organization, as well as numerous niche programs to fill unmet needs in the community. Examples include its Turn It Around counseling program for at-risk adolescents in the Lake Shore and North Collins school districts, which helps students improve their attendance and academic performance, and its Living Without Violence program, which lowers domestic violence cases. Bartone also led efforts to secure grant funding from organizations like the John R. Oishei Foundation, Ralph C. Wilson Foundation and Health Foundation for Western and Central New York. He also headed the agency’s acquisition of the former Hamburg Counseling Service, Inc. in late 2017, and worked with board and staff colleagues to lay the plans to significantly expand Community Concern’s Derby headquarters in the coming years, with an eye toward integrated care, lower costs and better outcomes. “On behalf of the board and our entire team, I thank Jerry for his nearly three decades of service and the countless lives which he improved through his hard work and passion,” said Community Concern Board Chairman Mike Davern. “We wish him a long and rewarding retirement with his family.” Ms. Nowak, who has served Community Concern’s mental health program for 13 years, has been named as his successor, consistent with the agency’s standing succession plan. Bartone will begin a consulting role for a brief period of time to assist with the transition, also per plan guidelines. Nowak joined the agency in 2006 as an intern and has steadily advanced from a licensed mental health counselor to clinic coordinator to Director of Programs and Services, the position she most recently held. She also played a key role in transitioning Hamburg Counseling Service throughout 2018. In addition, she has overseen and contributed to the rapid growth of Community Concern’s mental health clinics in recent years. She serves as the lead contact for the agency’s Practice Transformation Academy team, a year-long project offered through the National Council for Behavioral Health, helping the agency prepare for the industry-wide change to value-based payments. Nowak holds master’s degrees in Mental Health Counselling and Public AdministrationHealth Administration from Medaille College and Hilbert College, respectively, as well as a bachelor’s degree in English from Daemen College. We were able to scan a copy of this group photo for our historical files of the woman’s bowling league of the Peter Pero Lanes in Brant, N.Y. The original photo had been shared with us by Mr. Angelo Militello Jr., whose beautiful wife Mary is one of the lovely ladies pictured. With help from some friends, historical society members Josephine Battaglia and Janet Bowman (speaking of lovely ladies), were able to determine the names of all but twenty of the women. The photo year is not known. Pero Lanes was located on the Brant-Reservation Road just past the Brant four corners. Western New York Residents Move to Papua New Guinea
Justin and Kaleigh Dye have spent the last 12 years living in Angola and Gowanda, but now are half a world away, serving as missionaries in Papua New Guinea (north of Australia). After three years of training and raising financial support, they arrived in PNG on Thursday, January 17, with their daughters Adrienne and Juliette. The government of Papua New Guinea has requested that a Bible in the Pidgin language be placed in the hands of every student in the country, from K-12. The Dyes will be helping in the printing of those Bibles, and also helping other missionaries start churches. Justin and Kayleigh grew up in the Faith Bible Baptist Church of Eden and worked to start the Hilltop Baptist Church in Angola. Pictured at the send-off service at FBBC on January 13 are: Pastor Art Kohl (Faith Bible Baptist Church), Juliette, Kayleigh, Adrienne, and Justin Dye, and Pastor Travis Lewis (Hilltop Baptist Church) Contributed by Faith Bible Baptist Church __________

The Faith Bible Baptist Church of Eden was visited by preachers from the deep south for the first day of a “Southern Camp Meeting in the North” on Monday, January 14. This was the 27th consecutive year that a group of Southern preachers have come up to bring their messages, warmth, and Southern hospitality. They visit 10 churches in 14 days around New York and Pennsylvania, with Eden always being their first stop. This conference is attended by several other pastors and church members.
