A Card of Thanks from the family of
Michele M. VanCheri
We would like to extend our gratitude for the amazing tribute for Michele. She was extremely loved and a special person. The outpouring of love and support from everyone was truly overwhelming. It made a very sad and difficult time heartwarming and memorable. I would like to thank my sisters Carol & Robert Pajonk and Lynne Fontane. I would like to thank her brothers Edward & Priscilla, and Christopher & Liz and her sister Carol Lynne & Mario, and to her nieces Samantha, Brianna, Stefanie, her nephew Christopher, and all family members. Thank you to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for the superior care that they provided Michele. A special thank you to the Addison Funeral Home for the most wonderful things you did for Michele. A big thank you to Father Timothy at Most Precious Blood for the beautiful mass. And last, but certainly not least... thank you to everyone who sent cards, gifts, food and flowers.
From the bottom of our hearts, Mrs. Lynda VanCheri Nathan and Mia James Tom Notarnicola

Evan Liddick, center, with (back, from left): 2021 Variety Club Telethon Chair Tony Vaccaro, and parents Shawn Liddick and Carrie Preston.
Variety Club Celebrity Child
This year's Variety Club Celebrity Child is Evan Liddick, a 13-year-old Lake Shore student who attends the Aspire Center for Learning. He and his family will be featured on the Variety Club Telethon when it airs on Feb. 27 and 28. Evan was adopted by his grandparents, Carrie Preston, a Lake Shore bus driver, and her husband, Shawn Liddick, when he was a year old. Evan is a very active, social young man who loves being outside, camping, listening to music and being an all-around goofball. He was a shaken baby at 4 months old. His diagnosis is traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, legally blind, G-tube fed and wheelchair dependent. He requires 24/7 total care. Evan uses many services through Oishei Children’s Hospital: Neurology, orthopedics, dental, and pulmonary clinics to name a few. “Our family is honored Evan is an ardent Bills fan. to have Evan represent children of multineeds through the year-long Variety Club events,” says Mrs. Preston. "The Variety Club is sharing Evan’s story of being a shaken baby and the tragic results of what many don't realize can be a devastating decision on a caregiver’s part.” Mrs. Preston and her husband hope Evan’s Celebrity Child status will help raise awareness. “If anyone has questions regarding Evan, we are an open book about all he's been through,” says Mrs. Preston. “and what shaken baby can do to a child.” She can be reached at evan4varietykids@gmail.com “Evan is our paternal grandchild,” says Mrs. Preston. “He was a shaken baby at four months old. My husband, Shawn Liddick, and I adopted Evan when he was 1 year old. Evan is diagnosed with traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other complications. The Variety Club is sharing Evan’s story of being a shaken baby and the tragic results of what many don't realize can be a devastating decision on a caregiver’s part.” Contributed by Lake Shore CSD __________
Our Town of Brant 1964 Quarto Sequennial History Book provides us with the following information regarding the Brant Baptist and Methodist Churches: “The first religious services in Brant were conducted by Benjamin Olmstead in 1820. In 1843 or 1844 the Baptist Society decided to build a church but after “counting the cost” in advance they accepted the assistance of their Methodist brethren and the church was finished and used in common by the two societies. The first church in the town of Brant was the Baptist Church which was later used as the Union Church. It now stands on the Joseph Catalano farm next to the Protestant cemetery and is used as a storage shed.” The Methodists of the vicinity of Brant Centre had formed a class about 1840 or 1842, under the Rev. Mr. Fenton, then the local preacher of the Collins and Brant circuit. Among the early members were Abram Vincent, who was the first class-leader, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Smith, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Wood and Ephriam Willis, a local preacher. The Methodist congregation having increased in membership, erected a new building in 1866. It was built at Brant Center on land donated by Samuel Butts at a cost of $4,000. After the church was up and sided and the roof and cornice on, a sudden gust of wind blew the structure over, causing considerable expense. Nonetheless, along with can-do pioneer spirit, the building was completed and the congregation was able to gather here for many years. It is interesting to note that while we were researching about the “Underground Railroad” a few years ago, we discovered that the former slave and Abolitionist speaker, Soujourner Truth, spoke at the M.E. Church in Brant in 1868. Approximately 400 people were there to listen. The Brant Methodist Church remained active until 1920 or 1923; Reverend James Pullen was preacher at both Brant and Evans Center. After the Brant Methodist Church closed, the building was turned over to the town of Brant. For many years the horse barns behind the town hall housed the highway equipment and the church building was used for town and school functions, parties and wedding receptions. In 1960 the church bell was removed. Also in 1960 the town remodeled the main portion and the Justice Court was the sole occupant. In 1971, the town clerk’s office was established. Prior to this the town clerk used his or her home as an office. Later, all town offices resided under this one roof. In the year of 2010, the town of Brant purchased the recently unoccupied Brant 1 school building and the offices of the town of Brant were moved to the new location. The Methodist church building is today a private residence. It is located on the Brant-North Collins Road. Additional sources: The circa “1940 Western New York in Pioneer Days History of Brant”. The church photo was shared via email with us by North Collins Historian Georgianne Bowman. (The photographer is listed as F. Troel, North Collins, N.Y.)
