News from Southtowns Catholic School

On Wednesday, February 3rd, during Catholic Schools Week at Southtowns Catholic School, our students participated in Valentines for Veterans. The entire school, kindergarten readiness through 8th grade worked hard to create beautiful cards that will be delivered to The Veterans Hospital just in time to brighten their Valentine's Day. We focus on the sacrifice that every veteran has endured to keep us safe in our country and how blessed we are to enjoy our freedom. It seems that quite a few “Brant boys” were on the Lake Shore Football 1965 ECIC Championship team. A donated box of items once belonging to past town of Brant historian Carlton Winters contained this sweet photo of five school girls. The photo did not include names, however the back has a note that reads “Brant, N.Y. about 1918 or 1919”. Until proven otherwise, our best guess is that the girls are standing in front of or near the old wooden Brant I School, located on Brant-Angola Road, with the photographer facing the Brant four corners. Their warm coats and hats are certainly appropriate for the weather we are experiencing lately. Carlton’s nephew Kyle Walczak had donated the box of Brant related historical treasures to the historical society earlier this year. We certainly are having fun searching through it!
