Grandmother of Michael S., Ryan and Justin (Ashley) Kaufman; great grandmother of Trenten and Ethan Kaufman. Rena spent much of her career employed at the Hamburg Public Library. After retirement, she continued to work part time as needed in the various library branches. She moved with her husband, George, to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2005 to enjoy the beach and sunshine.

Celebrating 180 years of Brant Township

180 years ago, on the 25th of March, 1839, the town of Brant was formed with land from Evans and Collins. It was named in honor of the celebrated Mohawk Chief Joseph Brant or “Thayendanegea”.

Since 1839, the boundaries have remained the same. The town of Brant’s neighbor to the north is the town of Evans, to the east is the town of North Collins, and to the south is the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. Lake Erie protects Brant’s western most boundary. The Holland Land Company’s survey records this territory of 24.7 square miles as township 8 and range 9.

To quote Walden Krull, Supervisor of the Town of Brant from 1958 to 1963: “We won’t forget our ancestors. We honor them for their spirit, for their courage and industry. They had to do most everything the hard way. But, as always, we look ahead.”

Our history has been enriched by people and events throughout these many years. At this milestone moment in our town of Brant story - yes we are celebrating 180 years of history - but in reality, we are celebrating the people of Brant, past and present, who, each in their own way, has done their absolute best to make this town an interesting and great place to live.

We were delighted to find a few “Pinewood Derby” photos in the albums which were donated to the historical society by Beverly and Martin Laurie a few years back. Both Beverly and Martin were very involved with scouting in the town of Brant.

In 1973, Cub Scout Pack 398 was sponsored by the Farnham Fire Department and their meetings were held at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church in Farnham, N.Y. The Pack was in it’s third year and had 23 members; the cubmaster was Edward Davis.

Cassandra Chiappetta Cassandra Chiappetta is in 8th grade, and she enjoys being involved in girl scouts, select choir, the Middle School Musical, and recently went “Bald to Bucks” to benefit cancer research. Her goal is to attend UB Medical School and become a surgeon. Her favorite thing in the world is reading. She feels that trying your best and giving back to others are important character traits for success.
