Food and Paper Drive

Most Precious Blood Church will be conducting a drive to collect food, paper goods and personal care items to restock the shelves at Operation Good Neighbor (OGN) starting Ash Wednesday March 2 and ending Easter Sunday April 17. We have learned from OGN that each year after the Christmas Holidays the many efforts to assist those in need are not as plentiful. Making life more difficult for many this year is the pandemic and current levels of economic inflation. Consequently the goal of this effort will be to assist OGN so they can meet their increasing demand. All collections will be turned over to OGN for distribution to families in need and residing in the Town of Evans. We will accept dry and canned foods only with examples consisting of soups, cereals, pasta and vegetables. Preferred soup is chicken noodle and tomato. Baby food and disposable diapers are also in great demand. Current programs of assistance will not provide for paper goods and personal care items such as Kleenex, paper towels, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and toilet paper. These will be collected, also.

You Won’t Believe What’s New at the Angola Library!

We bet you were expecting us to tell you about a book - but our news is - we have a new resident at the library!! Plan a visit to the Angola Library to meet and greet “Chomper”, a Red-eared Slider Turtle who moved in on December 10th, 2021. “Chomper” once lived at the SPCA and then for a few years at the Kenmore Library. It is our own speculation that she wanted to live closer to the lake, so she moved to the Evans area and selected our cozy Angola Library as her new home. Our Library Director Jennifer Page shared a bit of information with us about this adorable turtle with the friendly and welcoming personality. “Chomper is approximately 8 years old and eats Aquatic turtle pellets, freeze dried shrimp, leafy greens, and some other “Chomper”– Making Herself at fruits and veggies as treats. Home in the Angola Library! She enjoys basking in her loft under the light and going for walks around the library (supervised of course)! She also enjoys greeting visitors in front of her tank.” Jennifer was advised that “in all likelihood Chomper has never been in the wild …and that her new home has the best system you can get for her without building her an indoor pond.” We hope you stop in!!
