POST HOLIDAY FOOD AND PAPER DRIVE

We have learned from Operation Good Neighbor (OGN) that each year after the Holidays the many efforts to provide food for those in need are not as plentiful. Consequently Most Precious Blood Church will be conducting a food drive to restock the Evans food pantry at OGN that will start Ash Wednesday March 6 and run through the Lenten season ending Easter Sunday April 21. We will accept dry and canned foods only with examples consisting of soups, cereals, pasta and vegetables. Preferred soup is chicken noodle and tomato. Baby food is also in great demand.

Current programs of assistance will not provide for paper goods such as Kleenex, paper towels and toilet paper so these will be collected, also. All goods will be turned over to Operation Good Neighbor for distribution.

John C. Cetin, 93, a family physician/surgeon who cared for patients from his office in Erie County for nearly a half-century, passed Wednesday March 20, 2019, of heart failure at Hospice Home with his family. Dr. Cetin opened a private practice in 1953. He maintained an office in Angola, New York. His Angola house had outside steps leading into the lower level of his home, which contained waiting and treatment rooms, a laboratory, and an X-ray machine. The family lived upstairs. Dr. Cetin was active in obstetrics and general surgery. He was one of five founders of Lake Shore Hospital and served on the staff until 2001. He served as the president of the medical and dental Staff at Lakeshore Hospital Inter-Community Hospital in 1966. He served as physician from 1989 to 2005 at the Gowanda Correctional facility. Dr. Cetin married Suzanne K. Erick in 1973. He had 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. When not working, he enjoyed his family, home and nature, reading, skiing and studied Ornithology. Dr. Cetin is survived by his wife Suzanne, Son Dr. Derrick C. Cetin (Dr. Ann Marie KalataCetin), daughters Paula A. Ciolko (late Orest P.Ciolko), LTC Stacey C. Cetin (Bradley P. Ruedig), Kathy M. Cetin, son John E. Cetin, 6 grandchildren Derrick C. Cetin Jr, Alexandra A. Ciolko, Andrea R. Ciolko, Kevin J. Cetin, John H. Cetin, Will E. Cetin and 2 great Grandchildren Anastasia Cetin and Delilah Tabar by his side. A memorial service will be held this summer with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Sharon Pennsylvania. ___________

Recently, 2nd and 3rd grade students at A. J. Schmidt elementary performed the musical “Dinosoaring” under the direction of their music teachers Mr. Capitummino and Mrs. Martin.

Students sang and danced to songs about several prehistoric creatures. The performance was enhanced by the set design of their art teacher, Mr. Ruffino. The students did an amazing job and the audience praised their hard work and talent.

Former Buffalo Sabres Defensemen Andrew Peters stopped by to talk about his career with the Buffalo Sabres. He also talked about working in broadcasting. The important part of his message to the students was that with hard work they can be anything they want to be when they grow up.
