o ATTENTION EVANS VOTERS!

Unfortunately, one of the serious negatives coming out due to the pandemic is the astronomical rise in the price of raw materials. Going forward, a new member of the Town Board must bring a strong business background to the Board in order to wade through the fiscal challenges put forth by the Pandemic. This is a summary of my Business Experience: • Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Syracuse University • Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry • 35 years in the Medical Industry • Recently retired as the Regional Director for all the North East United States • Personally responsible for over $100,000,000 in business on an annual basis • Wrote and negotiated numerous multi-million-dollar contracts • 5-time Manager of the Year for the entire Sanofi/Genzyme Organization • Conducted seminars in Negotiation Skills, Presentation Skills, and Management Development • Assigned to assess the viability of the South African Orthopedic Market

From the Old Photo Album A New-Found Photo of the Brant I School?

Mrs. Joyce Ellis recently discovered a school photo in one of her kitchen cabinets and graciously donated it to the Brant-Farnham Historical Society. Joyce tried to distinguish a familiar face, but could not name any of the students in the photo. Her husband Anthony’s grandparents came to Brant in late 1800’s, so it is possible that this photo is of the Brant 1 School, however at this date we cannot establish this as a fact. Aspects of the school building are similar to a 1905 Brant I school photo we have in our archives. We are able to name those pictured in the 1905 photo. (Note: the 1905 photo was published in a news article in 1970, thus the hand-written date in the top right corner.) We may not have specifics regarding the newly found school photo, but we do have an excerpt of an early family history of the Ellis family prepared for our 2014 anniversary book by Kathy Ellis Nerger. Kathy is the daughter of Joyce and Anthony Ellis. (Anthony was the son of Joseph Jr.) Kathy wrote: “Guiseppe Alessi arrived in the U.S. in the late 1800s during the mass emigrations from Sicily. His wife Fillippa, with three small children, Jack, Lucy and Samuel, joined him soon after. With their names Americanized to Joseph and Phyllis Ellis, the family settled in Brant on what is now Ellis Road. They had four more children: Joseph Jr., Nancas (called Agnes), Anthony and Josephine.” We are wondering out loud: Could Nancas Ellis be Nancy Ellis in the 1905 photo? Contributed by Brant- Farnham Historical Society __________

REAL ESTATE RENTAL

From an article compiled by Donald Cook (past historian for the town of Evans) for THE EVANS JOURNAL and THE ANGOLA PENNYSAVER we learn the following regarding the buildings pictured: “The North Evans Hotel shown in the one photo was built in 1858 by Henry Byron. At that time, North Evans was an important village on the HamburgVersailles Plank Road. Most coaches passed through at least twice a day, and farmers drove cattle through the village on their way to Buffalo. The tanneries and mills brought people from as far away as twenty miles. Various owners were Peter Nenno (1873), William Spittler and his son-in-law Fred Ruppert (1878), Andrew Schiedel (1888), Ed Shumer (1896), George Kelderhouse (1903), and J. Peter Swartz (1904). Andrew Schiedel built a dance hall to the left of the hotel in 1895. The Taxpayers Association bought the hotel in 1920. They built the George-Albert Memorial Hall on the front of the dance hall. The upper floor was used for the Girl Scouts. There was a library, a large dining room and kitchen. It was used for card parties, dance, etc. In 1929, the North Evans Fire District bought the property and moved the hotel across the fields where it became an apartment house. Bowling alleys were added. The second picture shows that. The floor of the auditorium in the fire hall was the original floor of the dance hall.” Contributed by the Evans Bicentennial Committee __________

From the Old Photo Album Pizzolanti’s Restaurant and Bar

Pizzolanti’s was a long time restaurant located on Commercial Street in the heart of the village of Farnham. For our Town of Brant’s 175th Anniversary Book, Woody and Edie Widmer shared their remembrances of this popular gathering place. We believe that their thoughts best described the atmosphere, not only of the restaurant, but of the era as well. “Pizzolanti’s Farnham Hotel was in business for over 75 years. It was known initially as a place for “locals”. Almost everyone in Farnham knew Grandpa [James] Pizzolanti until he passed, you could always find him sitting in the bar with his cane and cigar every night it was open. Spaghetti with meatballs was the main course. Throughout the years, Pizzolanti’s became a popular restaurant for many people. Because of Kate’s homemade spaghetti sauce and chicken cacciatore, people came from all areas: Buffalo, Fredonia, Orchard Park, etc. To this day, people still talk about the restaurant and how much they miss it.” Contributed by Brant- Farnham Historical Society __________ BACKED BY A YEAR-ROUND
