For as long as anyone can remember, the late William G. Houston, Deputy Mayor/Village Trustee advocated for replacing the deteriorated 110+ year-old cast iron waterline on Lake Shore Road in the Village Retail Water District. The old pipe leaked and, as those in the retail district know, it had frequent breaks that disrupted service. The Village is happy to report that progress has been made over the last two years to fulfill Mr. Houston’s goal. In 2021, Eagle Associates of Western New York proposed a new 22-lot sub-division at the St. Vincent DePaul Camp Site across from the Big Sister Treatment Plant on Lake Shore Road. That project looks to be moving ahead soon. After negotiations suggested by Mr. Houston were concluded, Eagle Associates contributed $90,000 to the Village for replacement of about 600 feet of waterline in that section of Lake Shore Road. The pipeline work designed by Village Engineer Donald Gallo was constructed by Fairway Construction Company in the Spring of 2021 at essentially no cost to the Village! After a positive cost-free start, the Village Board retained Gallo to prepare plans and cost estimates to replace the balance of the deteriorating waterline on Lake Shore Road. Based on those cost estimates, the newly elected Village Board under the leadership of Mayor Tom Whelan floated a $934,000 bond issue in early 2022 to pay for additional waterline replacement. The very favorable low bid received from West Seneca Contractor E & R General Construction, Inc on February 28, 2022 allowed the Village to replace approximately 3,000 feet of the old waterline. The Village is happy to report that the completed cost is below the $934,000 bond. A completion date of July 1 was stipulated so that the heavily travelled Lake Shore Road would be fully open before the Independence Day Weekend when seasonal traffic is high. The construction was complete, and Lake Shore Road was paved and fully open by the 3rd week of May - two months early and in time for Memorial Day weekend, the official start of summer. Team effort between the contractor and engineer combined with the dedicated work of the Village Clerk Nicole Renee Milks, Village Crew Chief Jack Krajacic, and Water Department Employee Cody Pudlewski were key factors in early completion. The Village Board thanks the Retail District customers for their patience during construction.

Lake Shore District Appoints 2 New Principals At its May 24th meeting, the Lake Shore Board of Education approved the appointments of two new principals in the Sistrict. They are: Abigail (Wesley) Fetterick as the John T. Waugh Elementary School Principal, effective July 1, 2022. She will replace Principal Paula Eastman, who is retiring. She has been a special education teacher at Lake Shore High School since 2012. During that time, she served as a mentor teacher, and advisor to several clubs, including the Future Educator Club and Drama Club, and as assistant coach for the indoor and outdoor track and swim teams. She has served on multiple committees, including Social Emotional Learning, Data Team/Professional Learning Leader, and Mentor Steering. She earned her master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction in Inclusive Education from SUNY Fredonia. She holds her Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from SUNY College at Fredonia, where she was awarded the Dr. Estelle M. Crino Educational Leadership Scholarship for Promising Women Leaders. Stacy Conti as the Middle School Principal, effective July 1, 2022. She will replace Principal Erich Reidell, who is retiring. Mrs. Conti currently serves as Assistant Principal at the Lancaster Central School District’s William Street School (grades 4-6). She also has served as a Staff Development Specialist/ Data Specialist at Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, and Academic Performance Coach at Aloma D. Johnson Charter School, and Data-Driven Instructional Manager at CheektowagaMaryvale Union Free School District. Previously she taught grades 5 and 6 math at Buffalo’s Community Charter School. She holds master’s degrees in Educational Administration (SUNY Buffalo) and Curriculum and Instruction (Buffalo State College), and New York State Professional Certificates as School Building Leader, School District Leader, Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education. “I am excited to welcome Abby and Stacy to Lake Shore’s administrative team,” said Superintendent Dan Pacos. “I am confident that they will both serve the students, parents and staff well in their new roles and prove a positive addition to our school community.” Contributed by Lake Shore CSD ____________
