• Gina was born and raised in Brant, graduating from Lake Shore High School in 1981 • She received her teaching degree at Fredonia and returned to LSCSD as a teacher in 1985 • Mrs. Hackbarth taught 5th grade in LSCSD for 32 years at Hoag, Waugh and last decade at Highland Elementary • Initially Mrs. Hackbarth worked with many of her former teachers and then taught children of former students • Her students and associates were her family, as well as husband Mike and children Brittany, Brandon & Brooke • She was committed to providing students a platform to excel and get ready for Middle School • Her fellow Highland teachers created the “Gina Hackbarth Award of Excellence” to be given annually in her honor to the 5th grader demonstrating the highest standards academically and socially

Jeffrey Hanes of Angola, NY passed away June 14, 2020 at the age of 59 years. Loving husband of Michelle (Gallman) Hanes, Cherished father of Abbey R. Hanes. Son of the late Harlow and Dorothy Hanes. Son in law of Gerry and Joyce Haag. Brother of Jude (Norman) Ryczek. Also survived by many friends. A memorial visitation will take place Saturday from 10-11 am at the Wentland Funeral Home 10634 Main st. (rt 62) N Collins, NY where memorial service will take place at 11 am. with 25% capacity restrictions. Jeffrey was a Special Education teacher at Dunkirk middle school for 27 years and an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Flowers gratefully declined. New $108K Waterline in Angola
During the first two weeks in June E&R General Construction of West Seneca installed a 500 foot, 10-inch waterline on North Main Street. The new line replaces a 109 year old pipe and connects it with a 10-inch line that was installed 22 years ago. It runs on North Main Street from the Holly Housing Apartments at Maple Street to Woodward Avenue. At that point, it connects with an 8-inch line that comes out of Woodward Avenue and was installed 20 years ago. Funding for the project was through what is called CDBG – Community Development Block Grants. It is federal money obtained competitively by the Village through the Erie County Environment and Planning Office that administers the funding locally. Although the line is fairly short, it is a key to finishing a new, full loop around the center core of the Village that was originally planned when the new water tower and several other lines were installed during the late 1990s. The project is a continuing example of the Village’s work to use available funding and grant money when and as possible to keep up work on updating the original Village water system that dates back to 1911. Much has been accomplished over the years, but much also remains to be done. Another recent project that was completed in early 2020 replaced over 3,000 feet of 10-inch original 1911 cast iron pipe on the lower section of Lake Street from Old Lake Shore Road east to past the curve near Birch Street. That line is in the Village owned retail water district and that section had over 30 expensive to repair water breaks over the past 3 years. Funding for that project was obtained by State Senator Christopher Jacobs who was able to direct $500,000 of state funding to the project. As to the North Main / Woodward line some have questioned as to why it was necessary to cut the new paving on the North Main Street repaving project – it had to do with stipulations and constraints in the contract documents between Erie County and the road project contractor. The waterline contractor has neatly repaired the area where the new paving was cut and the County plans additional restoration when they move into Phase Two of the Main Street Reconstruction Project, which will cover work from Woodward Avenue north to the Village line at Beverly Drive, on to Beach Road and through Evans Center to Route 5. Village Engineer Donald Gallo, who designed and supervised both recent waterline projects, noted how cooperative Village and Town residents were with the work and the ongoing inconvenience during the time of construction.
